  • Bailey Ober strikes out eight in win over Tigers
    Bailey Ober worked six innings and allowed three runs — one earned — in a victory over the Tigers on Thursday.

    Advice: Ober struck out eight and walked none. He has a 27/3 K/BB ratio in his last three starts and a 100/23 K/BB ratio in 94 innings for the year. The 4.12 ERA still isn’t great, but everything else is exactly what one would expect from him. He’ll face the White Sox next. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:31 pm
     
  • Marcus Stroman allows three homers in loss to Reds
    Marcus Stroman gave up five runs while hurling five innings in a loss to the Reds on Thursday.

    Advice: The long ball was a problem for Stroman, as he gave up three homers accounting for all five runs. He walked two and struck out six in a start that would have looked fine without the roundtrippers. That’s not how this works, unfortunately.   • Frankie Montas holds Yankees to two runs in victory
    Frankie Montas gave up two runs over five innings to pick up a win over the Yankees on Thursday.

    Advice: Montas struck out four while walking three and allowing four hits. The right-hander held the Yankees scoreless for the first four frames before allowing a pair of homers in the fifth. The results have been much better as of late for Montas, and while he isn’t missing a ton of bats, he’s allowed no more than two runs in three-straight starts.   • Ben Lively gets win after allowing three over six
    Ben Lively allowed three runs over six innings to pick up a win against the White Sox on Thursday.

    Advice: Lively scattered six hits while striking out six and walking one. The right-hander threw 93 pitches in the outing while landing 65 of them for strikes. He held Chicago to just one run through the first five before allowing a two-run blast to Paul DeJong to turn a strong outing into a fine one, all things considered. Lively has registered a 3.14 ERA and will be back on the bump next week against the Tigers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:59 pm
     
  • Jared Shuster allows two over two against Guardians
    Jared Shuster gave up two runs in two innings of work Thursday against the Guardians.

    Advice: Shuster wasn’t expected to go more than a couple of innings in his start, and he didn’t “disappoint.” The southpaw went into the third, but was pulled after giving up a homer to Stephen Kwan without getting an out. Shuster has been effective in his relief role, but he doesn’t have the stuff to be a competent starter. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:59 pm
     
  • Chris Bassitt allows four to Astros over five
    Chris Bassitt went five innings while allowing four runs in a loss to the Astros on Thursday.

    Advice: Bassitt, 35, gave up eight hits, walked four and struck out three. Most of the damage was done early, as he gave up three runs in the first inning before settling down. The right-hander had allowed just three total earned runs over his last two starts, so it goes without saying this outing — while not horrific — didn’t keep that good run going.   • Framber Valdez gets quality start, win vs. TOR
    Framber Valdez allowed three runs over six innings in a win over the Blue Jays on Thursday.

    Advice: Valdez gave up nine hits and walked two while striking out four. The overall line isn’t great, but it’s worth pointing out that he gave up all three runs in the first inning before settling down over the final five. He’ll get a chance to make one more start before the All-Star break against the Marlins on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:52 pm
     
  • Hit around again in loss
    Festa (1-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing seven runs on nine hits and no walks. He struck out six over five innings.

    Advice: Festa allowed three home runs on the day, including a grand slam to Carson Kelly in the third inning, which opened up the scoring frenzy for the Tigers. Wenceel Perez took him long in the same inning and then Riley Greene also went deep in the fifth for a two-run blast. The one encouraging stat line for Festa in this one was he had six strikeouts and no walks while piling up 13 whiffs. Still, the 24-year-old has now allowed 12 runs over his first 10 major-league innings. If he sticks around for another turn in the rotation, he'll line up to face the White Sox early next week.   • Jared Shuster set to start for White Sox Thursday
    Jared Shuster will start for the White Sox in Thursday’s series finale against the Guardians.

    Advice: Shuster has pitched exclusively out of the White Sox’ bullpen this season, posting a 3.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 21/16 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings in 17 appearances. The 25-year-old hurler threw 64 pitches a couple of weeks ago against the Tigers, but otherwise hasn’t been stretched out, so he shouldn’t be expected to work more than a couple of innings on Thursday.
