    Megill earned a save against the Astros on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out three baters over one inning.

    Advice: Megill gave up a two-out single to Jake Meyers but was otherwise dominant, recording all three of his outs via strikeout. He threw 12 of 16 pitches for strikes and recorded his fifth save over five appearances in March.   • Allows run, snags win Saturday
    Romero (1-0) allowed a run on three hits over one inning, taking a blown save but earning the win Saturday versus the Red Sox. He did not strike out or walk a batter.

    Advice: Romero gave up a game-tying RBI double to Rob Refsnyder in the eighth inning, but the Cardinals answered with a five-run rally in their half of the frame. This was just the fourth run Romero's allowed all year, and just the third time he's given up multiple hits in an appearance. The southpaw has been excellent in a setup role with a 1.54 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB while adding 15 holds through 23.1 innings. Romero hasn't had a chance to challenge closer Ryan Helsley for the ninth inning yet, as the back end of the Cardinals' bullpen has been one of the team's few positives in 2024.   • Falls just short of five frames
    Wilson allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Saturday.

    Advice: Wilson was given a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but he was pulled after giving up a one-out solo homer to Jake Meyers and a two-out single to Jose Altuve. The hook eliminated the right-hander's chance to qualify for the win, and it marked the second straight outing in which he's failed to go five frames. Still, Wilson has given up a tolerable four runs across 8.2 innings during those two contests, and he's recorded a 2.79 ERA across 38.2 innings on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:30 pm
     
  • Pitches well in no-decision
    Mikolas allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision versus the Red Sox on Saturday.

    Advice: Mikolas threw just 79 pitches (54 strikes), so it's possible manager Oliver Marmol didn't want the right-hander to go through the order a third time in a close game. The lone run on Mikolas' line was a solo home run by Rafael Devers in the fourth inning. Mikolas has allowed three runs or fewer in six of his outings this season, but he's given up five or more runs in his other four starts.   • Bullpen session on tap
    Boyle (back) is slated to throw a "two-up" bullpen session Sunday, MLB.com reports.

    Advice: The right-hander will take an important step in his recovery with the session, which will see Boyle participate in separate throwing sessions with rest periods in between.   • Takes third straight loss
    Stripling (1-8) allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out two without walking a batter over five-plus innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Royals.

    Advice: Stripling has lost three straight starts, though he kept the ball in the yard and didn't walk a batter for the first time in that span. The veteran right-hander gave up two runs in the first inning and then ran into trouble again in the fifth and the sixth. Stripling has a 5.19 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB over 52 innings across 10 starts this season. The Athletics' rotation has been hammered with injuries, so he's at little risk of slipping out of a starting role any time soon.   • José Ureña gives up one run against Angels
    José Ureña went six innings while allowing just a run against the Angels on Saturday.

    Advice: Ureña has more than held his own as a starter thus far for the Rangers, and while he hasn’t exactly faced the cream of the crop, he’s yet to allow more than two runs in his three starts. The right-hander walked one, struck out three and allowed just four hits, but didn’t qualify for a decision with Patrick Sandoval equaling his one-run effort.   • Patrick Sandoval goes six strong against Rangers
    Patrick Sandoval allowed just a run over six innings while not factoring into the decision Saturday against the Rangers.

    Advice: Sandoval did walk three and threw just 56-of-99 pitches for strikes, but he also allowed only three hits while picking up five strikeouts. It’s the second time in three starts that the southpaw has allowed no more than a run, and it’s helped lower what was a 6.75 ERA on April 20 to 4.85.   • Mikolas allows one over five in start vs. Red Sox
    Miles Mikolas only allowed one run over five innings against the Red Sox on Saturday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

    Advice: Mikolas allowed just two hits in the start, with one of those being a homer to Rafael Devers. The right-hander also walked one and struck out four in one of his best outings of the 2024 campaign. That’s a bit of faint praise considering he came into this start with a 6.19 ERA, but, it is what it is. The Cubs are next for Mikolas. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:08 pm
