• Nails third save
Alvarado picked up the save Wednesday, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout over a scoreless inning against Colorado.

Advice: After keeping the Rockies off the scoreboard in the ninth inning Wednesday, Alvarado hasn't allowed a run in eight straight appearances (7.2 innings) since his nightmare five-run 2024 debut. While it'll still take some time to get Alvarado's ERA down to a digestible number, fantasy managers can take solace in knowing that Alvarado's looking like his 2023 self, when he earned a 1.74 ERA across 41.1 innings. • Endures nightmare first inning
Feltner (1-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against Philadelphia. He struck out eight.

Advice: The Phillies teed off Feltner in the first inning, starting the game with back-to-back solo shots by Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner as part of a four-run, five-hit frame. Though Feltner settled in afterward, the damage was already done, falling to his second loss of the campaign. Wednesday's outing was the first hiccup in what's been a very successful start to the 2024 campaign for Feltner. Before facing the Phillies, Feltner had allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his three starts. He's lined up to make his next start Tuesday against the Padres at Coors Field. • Opening Thursday
Bernardino will open Thursday's game against the Guardians, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Bernardino has allowed just one run across 5.1 innings to begin the year. His outing Thursday will likely only last an inning or two, after which Cooper Criswell is expected to pitch the bulk of innings. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
  • Cooper Criswell to work bulk innings on Thursday
Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora confirmed Wednesday that Cooper Criswell will work bulk innings on Thursday against the Guardians.

Advice: Brennan Bernardino will function as an opener in front of him. Criswell pitched well in his last outing against the Angels on Saturday, allowing two runs over four innings in a no-decision. He’s probably best avoided for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago
  • Connor Wong homers in win over Guardians
Connor Wong went 2-for-3 with a solo homer to lead the Red Sox to a 2-0 win over the Guardians on Wednesday.

Advice: Wong had the team’s only RBI in the low-scoring affair. After a run scored on a balk in the third inning, he took Ben Lively deep for a solo homer in the fourth to extend the Boston lead. It was the third home run of the season for Wong and third consecutive multi-hit game. The 27-year-old backstop is slashing .382/.371/.676 across 35 plate appearances. After starting the season on the short-side of a platoon, it seems his bat has earned him more playing time against right-handed pitching. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
  • Tanner Houck tosses complete-game shutout in win
Tanner Houck struck out nine batters over nine scoreless innings in a complete game shutout win over the Guardians.

Advice: Houck was incredible Wednesday against the Guardians. He faced just two batters over the minimum, scattering three base hits with no walks. Houck had his slider working, generating 11 whiffs on the pitch and 19 total to strike out nine batters. The 27-year-old right-hander will look to build on the dominant performance when he takes a 1.35 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and a 28/2 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings into a rematch against the Guardians in Cleveland next week. • Astros option Forrest Whitley back to Triple-A
Astros optioned RHP Forrest Whitley to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: The 26-year-old hurler was recalled on Tuesday to provide some extra depth in the Astros’ bullpen, but he’ll be sent back out with Justin Verlander set to be activated from the injured list on Friday. Whitley will continue to bide his time at Triple-A until he’s needed once more. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago
  • Dominant for first victory
Sanchez (1-2) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one unearned run on five hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts over six innings against Colorado.

Advice: Sanchez was incredible Wednesday, tying his career high in strikeouts without being responsible for a run. Although Brenton Doyle did cross the plate in the first inning, Doyle reached base on an error by Alec Bohm, excusing Sanchez of an earned run. Sanchez has delivered back-to-back quality starts and owns a 10.5 K/9 -- a career high as it stands -- across four starts. He's tentatively scheduled for a matchup with the Reds at Great American Ball Park on Apr. 24. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
  • Ben Lively strikes out seven in loss to Red Sox
Ben Lively allowed two runs with seven strikeouts over five innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Lively was activated from the injured list on Wednesday ahead of his start against the Red Sox. He was solid in his first outing, giving up just two runs to keep the Guardians in the game. The first run scored on a balk in the third inning before Connor Wong took Lively deep for a solo homer in the fourth. He scattered three hits and a walk while striking out seven. The 32-year-old right-hander lines up for a rematch against the Red Sox next week in Cleveland. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago
