• Spencer Arrighetti roughed up by Tigers
Spencer Arrighetti allowed seven runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: The Astros moved Arrighetti’s start up a day when Justin Verlander was scratched with an injury and that may have been the wrong move. The 24-year-old had allowed just two earned runs over 14 2/3 innings in his last three starts and had a 15.3 percent K-BB rate and 11.4 percent swinging strike rate over his last four starts. Yet, nothing worked for him on Saturday. He couldn’t find the plate with anything other than his cutter and induced just three whiffs on 20 swings for a 15 percent whiff rate and 23 percent CSW. It’s possible the late change in schedule threw him off, but whatever it was, he remains off the streaming radar next week against the Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 5:08 pm
  • Late addition to lineup
Montero will play first base and bat cleanup Saturday against Pittsburgh, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Advice: Brenton Doyle (knee) was scratched from the lineup Saturday, pushing Jake Cave to center field and Michael Toglia into right in order to open up a spot at first base for Montero. Montero has just two hits in his last 23 at-bats and has a .546 OPS on the year. Rotowire.com Today, 5:03 pm

  • Call-up made official
The Pirates recalled Delay from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

Advice: Delay joined the Pirates in Colorado ahead of Saturday's game against the Rockies and should split catching duties with Yasmani Grandal while Henry Davis (concussion) is sidelined. Delay posted a .523 OPS at Triple-A over 34 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 4:54 pm
  • Approaching rehab assignment
Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated early this week that Brubaker (elbow) is "getting ready to go out on an assignment," per MLB.com.

Advice: Brubaker is over 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery and has been throwing to live hitters for about five weeks. The 30-year-old hasn't pitched in a game since the 2022 season, so he'll presumably need a rehab assignment consisting of several starts. Brubaker could be ready to join the big-league club around the All-Star break, but given the success of the team's starting staff thus far and the impending return of Gerrit Cole (elbow), there doesn't appear to be room in the rotation for Brubaker at the moment. • Moving close to rehab stint
Effross (back) has been throwing to live hitters for several weeks and is getting close to kicking off a minor-league rehab assignment, per MLB.com.

Advice: Effross underwent Tommy John surgery in October of 2022 and then had back surgery last December. Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently stated that the righty reliever is responding well to his throwing sessions, and it appears that he could begin a rehab stint soon, though Boone didn't indicate an exact date. When Effross is ready to return to the big club, he'll strengthen a bullpen unit that currently ranks third in the majors in team ERA. Rotowire.com Today, 4:45 pm
  • Pirates recall Jason Delay from Triple-A Indy
Pirates recalled C Jason Delay from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: With Henry Davis (concussion) landing on the injured list on Saturday, Delay will return to share the catching duties with Yasmani Grandal for the immediate future. The 29-year-old has hit just .194/.265/.258 with zero homers, five RBI and a 12/2 K/BB ratio in 10 games at Triple-A Indianapolis this season. Rotoworld Today, 4:44 pm
  • Alek Thomas moving rehab to Triple-A on Monday
Alek Thomas (hamstring) will have his minor league rehab assignment shifted to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Advice: The 24-year-old outfielder has been playing games in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League over the weekend, so he’ll step up the competition level for a few games at Triple-A before he’s cleared to return to the Diamondbacks’ outfield. If all goes according to plan, he should return before the end of next week. Rotoworld Today, 4:33 pm

  • Jorge Polanco (hamstring) begins rehab assignment
Jorge Polanco (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at High-A Everett on Saturday.

Advice: The 30-year-old second baseman is only expected to need a couple of games to get his timing back before he’s cleared to return to the Mariners’ lineup. Expect him back early next week, which will severely impact the playing time for Ryan Bliss, who has been filling in at second base over the past few weeks. Rotoworld Today, 4:30 pm

  • Aiming for late June return
Thomas will continue his rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and is hoping to rejoin the Diamondbacks on June 25 for the start of a six-game home stand, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Thomas started a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League and homered in his first game. He'll have his rehab transferred to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, where he'll remain while the Diamondbacks go on a six-game road trip. Rotowire.com Today, 3:58 pm
