      Holmes picked up the save Sunday against the Dodgers. He pitched a scoreless ninth but allowed two hits and struck out a batter.

      Advice: Holmes quickly got the first two outs of the inning, but then ran into some trouble after allowing back-to-back base hits to bring Mookie Betts up to the plate. Holmes was able to get Betts to whiff on a slider to end the game and pick up his 19th save. Holmes is now tied with Emmanuel Clase for second in baseball in saves.       Advice: Soto went through his normal pregame routine in the hopes of entering Sunday's game as a pinch hitter.       Advice: Langford recorded his fourth multi-hit game in the last nine while collecting his fifth and sixth RBI over that same span. Langford is starting to show some positive signs after a slow start to the season, lifting his average to .234 with Sunday's effort and hitting .286 with a double and two triples over this most recent nine-game stretch.       Clay Holmes walked the tightrope against the Dodgers in the ninth inning on Sunday, but managed to escape with a two-run lead intact to earn his 19th save of the season.

      Advice: Holmes had no trouble getting the first two outs of the inning, but then he allowed singles to Gavin Lux and Enrique Hernandez to put the tying runs on base for Mookie Betts. He battled back though, getting Betts on a swinging third strike to close it out for the Yankees.     • Jose Altuve belts 10th homer in loss on Sunday
      Jose Altuve went 4-for-5 and belted his 10th home run of the season on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Astros past the Angels in Los Angeles.

      Advice: Altuve capped off a four-run rally in the sixth inning with his 406-foot (103.2 mph EV) two-run blast off of Hunter Strickland that extended the Astros’ lead to 7-4. That would be the extent of their scoring though. The 34-year-old second baseman also got the Astros on the board with a run-scoring single in the third inning then scored on an RBI knock by Jeremy Pena.       Jones did not factor into the decision Sunday against Minnesota, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Jones struggled to find his footing early, allowing all three of his runs in a shaky first inning during which he walked two batters and allowed the bases to be loaded with just one out. The 22-year-old rookie was able to settle in afterwards, but his control has been a minor cause of concern recently -- Sunday was his fourth consecutive game allowing multiple walks. In that span, Jones has compiled a 4.25 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP and a meager 16:11 K:BB over 21.2 innings.       Jared Jones allowed three runs on six hits in five innings in a no-decision against the Twins on Sunday.

      Advice: The rookie also walked three and struck out three on the day. Jones got 14 whiffs on 42 swings for a 33 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW, but he also allowed nine hard-hit baseballs on the day. Jones has now allowed three earned runs in four of his last five starts, but the other start was a masterful shutout of the Dodgers, which shows you just how hard it is to bench Jones when he has this much raw talent. There will be some ups and downs in his rookie season, and it’s understandable if you want to bench Jones next week in Coors Field, but the rookie’s stuff hasn’t shown any meaningful decline.       Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Soto (forearm) will go through his normal pregame routine and may be available off the bench Sunday against the Dodgers, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

      Advice: Boone also indicated that Soto should rejoin the lineup during the four-game series in Kansas City that begins Monday, as the outfielder appears to be progressing well in his recovery from forearm inflammation.       Joey Ortiz went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as the Brewers’ leadoff man Sunday against the Tigers.

      Advice: Those who picked Ortiz up after an outburst in which he hit four homers in a nine-game span last month might be somewhat disappointed that he has no homers in his last 20 games. Still, his average and OBP remain strong, and he’s not a bad play in mixed leagues while playing every day for the Brewers.
