    • Wilyer Abreu (ankle) will be activated on Saturday
Wilyer Abreu (ankle) will be activated from the injured list prior to Saturday’s game against the Reds.

Advice: The 24-year-old outfielder rejoined the team on Friday, but since he wasn’t going to start against left-hander Andrew Abbott anyways, the Red Sox are waiting an additional day to officially activate him from the injured list. He’ll return to a .272/.344/.485 slash line with six homers, 22 RBI and seven stolen bases through his first 53 games on the season. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

    • Reinstatement coming
Rodgers (hamstring) will be activated from the 10-day injured list, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports Friday.

Advice: Rodgers suffered a mild left hamstring strain June 7 and after couple weeks of recovery and a brief minor-league rehab assignment, he'll rejoin the Rockies active roster. Adael Amador (oblique) will hit the IL in a corresponding move. Prior to the injury, Rodgers owned a .699 OPS across 230 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

    • Max Scherzer not starting for Rangers on Saturday
Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that Jon Gray will start on Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: There had been speculation that Max Scherzer would make his 2024 season debut on Saturday, but it’ll be Gray getting the ball instead. Bochy was quick to point out that Scherzer has not had any sort of setback and could still return to start Sunday’s series finale against the Royals. Stay tuned. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago

    • Rockies activate Brendan Rodgers from 10-day IL
Rockies activated INF Brendan Rodgers from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The 27-year-old infielder hadn’t been expected to return until Saturday, but he’ll rejoin the Rockies a day early with Adael Amador (oblique) landing on the injured list on Friday. Unless there’s a late modification to the lineup though, Rodgers will not rejoin the lineup on Friday night as Alan Trejo is set to start at second base against DJ Herz and the Nationals. • Starting Saturday
Gray will start Saturday's game against the Royals, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gray was scheduled to throw Monday at Milwaukee on seven days rest, but he'll have his start bumped up to Saturday to give Max Scherzer (thumb/back) extra rest. Gray had surrendered two or fewer runs 12 consecutive starts before being rocked for nine runs in three innings against the Mets on Monday. He yielded two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts across seven innings in a start against the Royals on May 5. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago

    • Return pushed back
Scherzer (back/thumb) won't start Saturday's game against the Royals, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Scherzer was initially reported to make his season debut Saturday after recovering from offseason back surgery and dealing with thumb and forearm injuries more recently. Instead, Bruce Bochy will hand the ball to Jon Gray on Saturday, with starters for Sunday's series finale against Kansas City and Monday's series opener against Milwaukee to be determined. Scherzer and Dane Dunning figure to fill the two starting slots, though it's unclear in what order. Rotowire.com Today, 2:17 pm

    • Likely to be activated Saturday
Abreu (ankle) is likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Abreu is with the Red Sox in Cincinnati but hasn't been activated just yet, probably because the Reds are starting a left-hander Friday in Andrew Abbott. Expect Abreu to be activated and in Saturday's lineup versus righty Frankie Montas. He's been sidelined since early June with a right ankle sprain. Rotowire.com Today, 1:49 pm

    • Bryson Stott sits against southpaw on Friday night
Bryson Stott is not in the Phillies’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: With left-hander Jordan Montgomery toeing the slab for the Diamondbacks, the Phillies will use it as an opportunity to give Stott a breather. Fellow left-handed hitters Brandon Marsh, David Dahl and Garrett Stubbs also find themselves on the pine for the start of this one. Edmundo Sosa will start in Stott’s place at second base and will bat sixth for the Phillies on Friday night. Rotoworld Today, 1:02 pm

    • Belts walk-off homer
Cronenworth went 2-for-5 with a walk-off solo home run and an additional run in Thursday's 7-6 win against the Brewers.

Advice: Cronenworth became the latest ninth-inning hero for the Padres when he swatted a 401-foot solo blast to give the team its third straight walk-off win. The long ball was the 11th of the season through 74 games for the infielder, who has already surpassed his total of 10 homers over 127 contests last year. Cronenworth is on pace to exceed his career-best totals of 21 home runs and 71 RBI, which he established in 2021. Rotowire.com Today, 9:58 am
