• Josiah Gray (elbow) scheduled for first rehab start
Josiah Gray will make his first rehab start Sunday for low-A Frederickburg.

Advice: He’s slated for at least two rehab starts and probably will need more. The right-hander has missed two months with a flexor strain in his elbow. Rotoworld Today, 1:21 pm

  • Cade Cavalli (elbow) doing sidework with Nationals
Cade Cavalli’s minor league rehab assignment is on pause as he travels with the major league club.

Advice: Cavalli, on the way back from Tommy John surgery, threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings in Rookie ball on May 20 and then allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings in high-A ball on May 30. Rather than keep him in the minors, the Nationals currently have him throwing with the major league team. It suggests there’s no real chance of him pitching in the majors before the All-Star break, not that it ever seemed very likely anyway. Rotoworld Today, 1:19 pm

  • Throwing 50-55 pitches in rehab
Gray (elbow) will throw 50-55 pitches during a rehab start with Single-A Fredericksburg on Sunday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Gray got up to 76 pitches during a live BP session prior to being sent on a rehab assignment but will be limited to 50-55 pitches in his first appearance. If all goes well Sunday, Gray will head to Double-A Harrisburg for another rehab start. Gray will likely need at least one more outing after the start at Double-A , making late June a feasible timeline for return. Rotowire.com Today, 1:19 pm

  • Gerrit Cole’s next rehab start slated for Sunday
Gerrit Cole’s second rehab start as he returns from an elbow injury will come for Double-A Somerset on Sunday.

Advice: Cole also pitched at Somerset his first time out. He’s expected to make at least one more rehab start in addition to this weekend’s. Rotoworld Today, 1:14 pm

  • Cubs activate Jordan Wicks ahead of Friday’s game
Cubs activated LHP Jordan Wicks from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: The Cubs could have had Wicks make one more rehab start, but they’ve brought him back now, even though they have no plans to give him a start this weekend. He’ll probably be back in the rotation next week, but he’ll be available to go long in relief tonight. Wicks allowed three runs and struck out 11 over 8 2/3 innings in his three rehab appearances. • Rejoining active roster
Wicks (forearm) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Wicks will be back with the Cubs for the first time since late April after sustaining a forearm strain in his throwing arm. He's completed 3.1 innings in each of his last two rehab starts and was stretched out to 65 pitches in his latest appearance. While Wicks previously served as the Cubs' fifth starter, rookie Ben Brown has impressed as part of the rotation and could push Wicks to the bullpen. Before going down, Wicks had a 4.70 ERA across 23.0 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 1:08 pm
  • Pulled off rehab assignment
Williamson has been pulled off his rehab assignment due to continued issues with his left shoulder, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Williamson threw four shutout innings Sunday and allowed just one hit in his last rehab start with Triple-A Louisville, showing good velocity. However, there's evidently renewed concern with the left shoulder strain which has kept him sidelined all season. Rotowire.com Today, 11:20 am
  • In line to start Saturday
Munoz is likely to be recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Saturday versus the Guardians, Nate Karzmer of Fishon First.com reports.

Advice: The Marlins have an opening in their rotation with No. 5 starter Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) recently going on the injured list. Munoz has collected a 5.17 ERA and 19:7 K:BB over 15.2 innings covering three starts with the Marlins this season. He was roughed up for seven runs (six earned) in 6.1 innings in his most recent start for Jacksonville against Durham on June 1, but Munoz blanked Gwinnett over eight innings in his start before that back on May 26. • Slated for two-inning sim game
Kershaw (shoulder) is expected to pitch a two-inning simulated game Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Advice: Kershaw tossed one inning against live batters Saturday and appears to have come out of that session well given that he will next progress to throwing two simulated frames. Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that the future Hall of Fame hurler is "way ahead of schedule," but the skipper also implied that Kershaw is likely still "about six weeks" away from being ready to join the big club, per Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com. Kershaw himself has declined to establish a timeframe for his return from the 60-day injured list, though mid-July is looking like a reasonable expectation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:11 am
