    • Blows save, earns win
      Fairbanks (2-3) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

      Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base necessitated the call to Fairbanks. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged him for a two-out game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed on to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss on Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win on Thursday.     • Ryan Helsley secures MLB-leading 25th save
      Ryan Helsley fired a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Giants to record his major leaugue-leading 25th save of the season.

      Advice: Helsley was summoned to protect a narrow one-run lead at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and made things intersting by issuing a leadoff walk to Trenton Brooks and surrendering a two-out single to Patrick Bailey, which put the potential tying run in scoring position. He managed to wriggle out of the jam by striking out Matt Chapman to extinguish the threat. The hard-throwing 29-year-old righty has converted 25 of 26 save chances this season to go along with a sparkling 2.45 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 38/13 K/BB ratio across 33 innings (33 appearances).     • Three hits, four RBI in win
      Mountcastle went 3-for-6 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored in Thursday's win over the Yankees while also drawing a walk.

      Advice: Mountcastle increased Baltimore's lead to six runs with a three-run double in the second before also coming around to score later in the frame. He would go on to reach base four times in the game while also driving in another run, matching his season high with four RBI.     • Lit up for seven runs
      Gil (9-2) was hit with the loss against the Orioles on Thursday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings.

      Advice: Gil struggled out of the gate, surrendering a leadoff double to open the contest before then eventually allowing one run in the first. However, things would get much worse for the right-hander in the following frame as he failed to retire nine of the next 10 batters he faced, leading to his shortest outing of the campaign. Gil gave up a season-high seven runs on the afternoon and failed to make it through six innings for the third-consecutive start. It also marked his first loss since April 15 against Toronto.     • Gil hammered for seven runs against Orioles
      Luis Gil allowed seven runs in 1 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Orioles on Thursday.

      Advice: Gil gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out one. He was due to have a bad start. Gil entered the game with a .194 BABIP allowed and 83 percent left on base percentage.       Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-3 with two walks and a solo home run against the Rockies on Thursday.



      Advice: Ohtani lead off the game with a home run off Rockies starter Ty Blach. The home run was his 21st of the year, which leads the National League. He’s hitting .318 with 59 runs, 53 RBI and 16 steals to boot.

    • Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blows save, gets victory
      Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

      Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. he right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win.     • Nolan Jones (illness) remains out of the lineup
      Nolan Jones (illness) is not in the Rockies lineup on Thursday against the Dodgers.

      Advice: Jones will miss his second straight game with an illness as Sean Bouchard fills in for him in left field and bats second. Jones has looked better since coming off the IL, going 5-for-13 (.385) with one stolen base and just two strikeouts to eight walks.     • Maikel Garcia gets a day off on Thursday
      Maikel Garcia is not in the Royals’ lineup for Thursday’s game against the Athletics.

      Advice: The 24-year-old is hitting just .145 in 16 games in June with 12 strikeouts. He does have four steals and 10 runs scored and is coming off a month of May where he hit .305, so this might be nothing but a brief cold stretch. The Royals will hope a day off helps him get back on track. In the meantime, Garrett Hampson will start at second base and hit eighth with Nick Loftin moving over to third base.
