    • Matt Vierling clobbers leadoff home run in loss
Matt Vierling clobbered a leadoff home run off of Spencer Turnbull on Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Tigers past the Phillies.

Advice: The 27-year-old slugger evened the score at a run apiece when he crushed the second pitch that Turnbull threw for a 413-foot (106.1 mph EV) solo shot to start the home half of the first inning. He also smacked a leadoff double off of Jose Alvarado to start the ninth inning, finishing the day 2-for-4. For the season, Vierling is now hitting .254/.288/.449 with 10 dingers and 32 RBI. • Picking up fifth straight start
Solano will start at first base and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Solano will crack the starting nine for the fifth game in a row. The Padres are facing a left-hander (DJ Herz) for a third straight game, but San Diego could have room for both Solano and the lefty-hitting David Peralta in the regular lineup against right-handed pitching after Fernando Tatis' (quadricep) move to the injured list Monday opened up a spot. Since getting a call-up from Triple-A El Paso in early May, Solano is slashing .284/.354/.405 with three home runs and 15 RBI over 130 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:26 pm

    • Guardians recall Jhonkensy Noel to make MLB debut
Guardians recalled OF Jhonkensy Noel from Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Noel had an 1.156 OPS for Columbus this month, putting him at .295/.359/.578 with 18 homers for the season. It’s unclear how much of a role the Guardians will carve out for him versus righties, but he should definitely be the right fielder against lefties. He struggled to hit for average in previous years, and he’s a zero when it comes to steals, so he’ll need to keep showing plenty of power in order to be useful in fantasy leagues. • Summoned to big leagues
The Guardians recalled Noel from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. He'll start at first base and bat sixth in the Guardians' series finale in Baltimore.

Advice: Noel will hit the big leagues for the first time. The 22-year-old slashed .295/.359/.578 with 18 home runs over 65 games with Columbus this season. Much of that production has come since the start of May, with Noel producing a .343/.404/.651 line with 14 home runs in 43 contests over that stretch. Noel has also struck out at just an 18.1-percent rate since May 1, which is a positive development for a player who has often struggled to make contact during his minor-league career. While he can handle first base and the corner outfield spots in a pinch, Noel's best shot at consistent playing time in Cleveland could come at designated hitter. • Healthy again at Triple-A
Harris (undisclosed) has gone 4-for-8 with two solo home runs and two additional runs in two starts for Triple-A Sacramento since he was activated from the 7-day injured list Saturday.

Advice: Harris spent just under a month on the shelf while recovering from the unspecified injury. He's hitting .301/.415/.496 with five home runs and three stolen bases across 135 plate appearances for Las Vegas on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:43 am
    • Mulling rehab assignment
Rendon (hamstring) said Wednesday that he's "definitely close" and is still deciding whether to go out on a rehab assignment, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: A rehab assignment would be sensible, considering he's missed two months of action with a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring. Rendon said that he's open to the possibility of playing rehab games before coming off the 60-day injured list, though the Angels can't force him to do so. Either way, the veteran third baseman should be clear to play in games soon if he's able to sprint on consecutive days without issue. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:13 am

    • Anthony Rendon (hamstring) close to game-ready
Anthony Rendon thinks he’s close to returning from a partially torn left hamstring.

Advice: Fortunately, Rendon is open to going on a rehab assignment, though he doesn’t seem to think he really needs one. Considering that he’s missed more than two months and was hardly tearing it up before getting hurt (.267/.325/.307 in 19 games), it would be for the best if he spent a few days in the minors. • Grounds out in return to action
Sano went 0-for-1 against Oakland in a 7-5 victory Tuesday.

Advice: Sano was activated from the injured list Tuesday after missing 50 games with left knee inflammation. He entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and grounded out to second base. Sano seems likely to return to the role he held prior to the injury, logging semi-regular at-bats while playing at first base and third base as well as getting starts as the Angels' designated hitter. • Tyler Black on bench for third straight day
Tyler Black is on the bench for a third straight game Wednesday against the Rangers.

Advice: It was expected that Black would sit versus a lefty last night, but two of these three games have been against righties, and the Brewers picked Jake Bauers over him today. Black is 3-for-11 with three walks since being recalled Thursday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:34 am
