    • Gray hammered again for eight runs Thursday
      Jon Gray allowed eight runs in five innings and took the loss against the Orioles on Thursday.



      Advice: Gray gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out one. It’s the second time in his last three starts that Gray has allowed at least eight earned runs. In that time his ERA has increased from 2.17 to 3.77. The 32-year-old right-hander is set to face the Padres at home next week.

      Athletics sent RHP Aaron Brooks outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

    • Patrick Sandoval undergoes elbow surgery
      Patrick Sandoval underwent season-ending left elbow surgery on Wednesday.

    • Shuster gets win with three in relief
      Jared Shuster picked up the win while throwing three scoreless innings in relief in the first game of a doubleheader against Atlanta.

      Advice: Shuster came in to work three innings of bulk relief after Chad Kuhl exited after three frames. The 25-year-old is the 27th player for the doubleheader against Atlanta — Shuster’s former organization — and he made a case for staying up while striking out two and allowing just one hit. Shuster has pitched well in his limited chances with the White Sox, but even if he did get called up into a full-time role, there’s a lot working against him as a potential fantasy option.     • Michael Kopech picks up save vs. Atlanta
      Michael Kopech pitched a scoreless ninth to get a save Thursday against Atlanta.

      Advice: Kopech didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout. That’s the sixth save of the season for the 28-year-old, and the scoreless frame lowered his ERA to a still-shaky 4.59 on the 2024 season.       Jake Bloss (shoulder) has resumed throwing.

      Advice: Bloss was placed on the injured list last week with right shoulder inflammation, but a subsequent MRI revealed no structural damage, and he’s targeting a return to Houston’s injury-depleted pitching mix when first eligible to return. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:49 pm

      The Tigers optioned Montero to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

      Advice: Montero was recalled from the minors to serve as a bulk reliever for Wednesday's game, during which he allowed five earned runs in just 4.1 innings.       The Tigers reinstated Faedo (hip) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

      Advice: Faedo made three rehab appearances at Triple-A Toledo, during which he gave up one run over three innings while striking out four batters and walking four. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 frames in the majors, and he'll slide back into a middle relief role now that he's been cleared to rejoin the Tigers' bullpen.       Tigers activated RHP Alex Faedo from the 15-day injured list.

      Advice: Faedo returns to Detroit’s pitching mix, most likely in a long relief role, following a three-week absence due to right hip inflammation. The 28-year-old former top prospect has excelled in a bullpen role this season with a strong 3.38 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 29/13 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (21 appearances).
