    • Phillies place Spencer Turnbull on IL
Phillies placed RHP Spencer Turnbull on the 15-day IL with a right lat strain.

Advice: Turnbull was removed from his start on Wednesday after pitching just three innings; however, the right-hander doesn’t think the injury is anything serious. He wanted to tell the Phillies as soon as he felt anything to make sure he didn’t aggravate the soreness he was feeling. There is no timeline yet for his recovery, but Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Michael Mercado would be the number five starter if Turnbull had to miss time. For now, reliever Yunior Marte was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Turnbull’s spot on the roster. Rotoworld Thursday, 12:15 pm

    • Headed to IL with strained lat
The Phillies placed Turnbull (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right lat strain.

Advice: Turnbull had to depart Wednesday's start against the Tigers with right shoulder soreness. While the pitcher downplayed the injury after the game, subsequent testing revealed a lat strain. It's not yet clear how much time Turnbull might miss, but it's certainly the type of injury that could cost the right-hander several weeks. With Taijuan Walker (finger) also still out for a while, Michael Mercado could enter the Phillies' rotation. Rotowire.com Thursday, 12:01 pm

    • Imaging comes out clean
Darvish had imaging on his right elbow come back clean Wednesday, though he'll likely get additional imaging "for peace of mind," Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Darvish has recovered from a groin injury and was originally expected to come off the injured list to start Tuesday, but that plan was scrapped when he developed inflammation in his right elbow. Initial indications suggested that the issue is minor, and the clean imaging seems to support that, though San Diego will likely be cautious with the veteran hurler's return. It's not yet clear when Darvish will return to action or if he'll need to make any rehab starts given the extension of his absence. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:59 am

    • Downplays shoulder injury
Turnbull said after Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Tigers that he felt "a little grab" in his right shoulder during his penultimate pitch of the third inning but noted that he isn't especially concerned about the injury, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Making his first start for the Phillies since April 30 as a replacement in the rotation for Taijuan Walker (finger), Turnbull struck out two and allowed one run on one hit and two walks before leaving the game following the bottom of the third inning. The Phillies labeled his injury as a sore shoulder, but he'll undergo further testing Thursday as the team looks to get a more precise diagnosis. The upcoming tests should also help clarify whether Turnbull will be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation, which would fall next week in Chicago at Wrigley Field. Michael Mercado would likely be the next man up to enter the rotation if Turnbull needs to join Walker on the 15-day injured list. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:52 pm

    • Leaves early with sore shoulder
Turnbull was removed from his start in Wednesday's game against the Tigers after three innings due to a sore right shoulder, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. He struck out two and allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks before exiting the contest.

Advice: Manager Rob Thomson previously said that Turnbull was being targeted for around 70 pitches in his first start since April 30, but the right-hander lasted just 36 pitches before bowing out with the shoulder issue. Turnbull will likely be put through more thorough testing after the game as the Phillies look to determine the full extent of the injury, but he could be at risk of landing on the 15-day injured list alongside Taijuan Walker (finger), whom he had replaced in the rotation. • Spencer Turnbull exits start with sore shoulder
Spencer Turnbull left Wednesday’s start against the Tigers after three innings with right shoulder soreness.

Advice: Turnbull hadn’t pitched more than three innings since Apr. 30, so he wasn’t expected to go deep into this one. Nevertheless, the Phillies were probably aiming for one more inning from him today. Turnbull allowed one run before being replaced by fellow former Tiger Gregory Soto. Rotoworld Wednesday, 11:11 am

    • Workload 'going to start dwindling'
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Tuesday of Crochet that "we're going to start dwindling his workload down a little bit," the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Crochet already sits at 94.1 innings in 2024 in his first pro season as a starting pitcher. He threw zero innings in 2022 and just 25 frames in 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and his highest innings total in college at Tennessee was 65. Therefore, his workload being curtailed at some point was inevitable. Grifol didn't divulge any specifics in regards to pitch counts or innings totals for Crochet, indicating he'll be flexible start-to-start based on how efficient the pitcher is. The manager also didn't mention anything about Crochet being shut down completely at some point, although it's certainly possible that will happen. It's not an ideal situation for fantasy managers, but those rostering Crochet will want to keep him in their lineups as long as he's making starts. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:46 am
    • Allows four runs in loss
Suarez (10-2) took the loss against the Tigers on Tuesday, allowing four runs on nine hits and no walks with four strikeouts over six innings.

Advice: Suarez opened with four scoreless innings but ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing four runs on five hits in the frame. He rebounded with a scoreless sixth but departed with a 4-0 deficit. This was just the second time Suarez allowed four earned runs in an outing this season, as he had allowed only four total earned runs in 20.1 June innings prior to Tuesday. The southpaw owns a 2.01 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 99:19 K:BB this season and lines up for another start this weekend, this one against the Marlins. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 8:05 pm
    • Fans eight in no-decision
Lugo did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Miami, allowing two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander was in line for his 11th win when departing this outing, only to be let down by his bullpen. With this scoreless performance, Lugo collected his third straight quality start and lowered his June ERA to 3.69 over 31.2 innings with a 29:8 K:BB. Overall, he sports a 2.29 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 95:26 K:BB across 110 innings this season. Lugo is currently slated to make one more start this month against Cleveland at home this weekend.
