• Summoned to help bullpen
The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: All seven of Butto's 2024 appearances with the Mets to this point have come as a starting pitcher, but he will be used in relief this time around in order to provide some length for an overused bullpen. The right-hander has collected a 3.08 ERA and 38:21 K:BB over 38 innings in the majors this season. Rotowire.com Today, 10:09 am
  • Mets recall José Buttó from Triple-A Syracuse
Mets recalled José Buttó from Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Buttó provides a fresh arm for the New York bullpen after their extra-inning victory over the Nationals on Monday. The right-hander takes the roster spot of Tyler Jay, who was optioned back to Triple-A in the corresponding transaction. Rotoworld Today, 10:02 am
  • Likely candidate to sub for Mize
Montero is a likely candidate to start in place of the injured Casey Mize (hamstring) after the latter was scratched from a scheduled start Monday with Triple-A Toledo, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Mize is expected to land on the 15-day injured list with a strained hamstring, and it looks like Montero will be the choice to take his spot. Mize's next turn had been scheduled for Saturday in Cincinnati, although the Tigers could choose to alter the order of their rotation. Montero has made one start and one bulk-relief appearance for Detroit this season, allowing nine runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 9:04 am
  • Casey Mize (hamstring) could head to injured list
Tigers manager AJ Hinch stated in an interview with MLB Network Radio that Casey Mize (hamstring) may need a trip to the injured list.

Advice: The hope was that Mize’s issue was just a cramp in his hamstring, but it turns out it’s at least a little more severe than that. The right-hander has the All-Star break coming up relatively soon, and it’s possible the Tigers could keep the 27-year-old out of action until after that break. Even if he does avoid a trip to the injured list, don’t be surprised if Mize isn’t able to make his next scheduled start over the weekend. Rotoworld Today, 8:28 am

  • Likely headed to injured list
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said in an interview Tuesday that Mize (hamstring) is a likely candidate to be placed on the 15-day injured list, Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reports.

Advice: Mize had to depart Sunday's start against the Angels with a left hamstring issue. While the initial hope was that he was merely dealing with a cramp, Hinch said Tuesday that it's more serious than that. Mize would be held out at least through the All-Star break if he is indeed placed on the IL. Matt Manning and Keider Montero are candidates to take Mize's spot in the Tigers' rotation. • On track for return after ASB
Anderson (elbow) threw three scoreless innings in a rehab start for Single-A Augusta on Sunday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one.

Advice: After two rehab starts in the Florida Complex League in which he posted a 7:0 K:BB over five innings while giving up just one run, Anderson got bumped up to Single-A and delivered another strong performance as he nears the finish line on his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander built up to 46 pitches (29 strikes) on Sunday, and he's expected to make at least two more rehab appearances before becoming an option for Atlanta's rotation after the All-Star break. • Reinstated from paternity leave
The Orioles activated Burnes (personal) from the paternity list Monday.

Advice: Burnes was away from the club for the final three games of its weekend series against the Rangers while tending to more important family matters. He's tentatively slated to make his next start Wednesday in Seattle, though that hasn't yet been confirmed. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:41 am
  • Casey Mize optimistic Sunday injury just a cramp
Casey Mize said he believes his left leg injury Sunday was probably just a cramp.

Advice: Mize will undergo tests after grabbing at his left hamstring in the sixth inning today, but the Tigers don’t seem overly worried at this point. If Mize is forced to the injured list, the Tigers could go to Matt Manning at the back of the rotation. Rotoworld Sunday, 5:37 pm

  • Set to undergo additional imaging
Mize (leg) will undergo further tests on his left leg, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: After exiting Sunday's win over the Angels in the bottom of the sixth inning with a left leg injury, Mize will see what the extent of the damage is. In regard to if it was a cramp or not, the right hander said "that's what it felt like" and that he and the team will "see how the next couple of days play out." The severity of his injury will be determined once Mize receives the results of the imaging. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:29 pm
