  • Garrett Mitchell not likely to join Brewers Sunday
    Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy said after Saturday’s loss to the Cubs that he didn’t expect Garrett Mitchell to join the big league roster on Sunday.

    Advice: It’s curious, as Murphy told reporters after Friday’s game that there was no plan to option Mitchell to Triple-A Nashville once his rehab assignment came to an end on Saturday. Something has to give. It sounds like the 25-year-old outfielder is going to remain at the Triple-A level for the time being instead of adding to an already crowded outfield mix in Milwaukee.     Advice: Winker was battling knee problems after getting his foot caught in the outfield grass during the first inning of Friday's game, but he appears to be in good enough shape to play Saturday. The 30-year-old has slashed .260/.377/.412 through 302 plate appearances this season, though he may see limited work in the outfield after top prospect James Wood officially joins the Nationals for his MLB debut Monday.     Advice: Winker is back in left field and batting third for Saturday’s showdown after suffering a right knee contusion during the bottom of the first inning of Friday’s game when he attempted to catch a fly ball near the left-field wall. His right cleat got caught in the turf, causing him to stumble and fall into the wall, which led to his exit from the contest.     Nationals OF prospect James Wood went 3-for-5 with three RBI on Friday for Triple-A Rochester.

    Advice: Talk about finishing strong. All indications are that Wood is headed to the majors on Monday for his big-league debut when the Nationals kick off a series against the division-rival Mets, but he’s not quite done mashing in the minors just yet. The 21-year-old showed why he’s one of the most exciting prospects in the fantasy landscape in this one by scalding a season-high three doubles on Friday evening to raise his triple-slash line to a sublime .353/.463/.595 with 10 homers and 10 steals across 52 games this season for Triple-A Rochester.     Advice: The 27-year-old slugger consistently got himself into scoring position, but the rest of the Houston lineup had trouble bringing him around. Since missing a couple games earlier in the month to attend to a personal matter, Alvarez has gone 9-for-27 (.333) in seven contests with three doubles, two homers, four RBI and five runs.
