• Impressing in camp
Ibanez has played well this spring and likely has locked up an Opening Day roster spot, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Ibanez was a pleasant surprise for the Tigers last season and he's carried that over into camp, as he's now popped four home runs in 15 Grapefruit League contests to go along with a .963 OPS. The utility player doesn't have a regular home on the diamond, but if he keeps swinging a hot bat, he may force his way into the lineup more often than not. Rotowire.com Today, 5:43 pm
  • Yankees option Jorbit Vivas to Triple-A
The Yankees optioned 2B Jorbit Vivas to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Vivas never really had a chance to make the Opening Day roster with Gleyber Torres still on the team, but there’s a chance he could fight for that second base position if New York decides to let go of Torres following the 2024 season. Rotoworld Today, 3:37 pm
  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Yankees optioned Vivas to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

Advice: Vivas was traded to the Yankees in December after spending last season in the Dodgers' minor-league system between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City. He slashed .269/.381/.407 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI over 609 plate appearances while stealing 25 bases in the minors in 2023. Vivas will start 2024 in Triple-A and could make his major-league debut should the Yankees be in need of an infielder or left-handed bat. Rotowire.com Today, 3:36 pm
  • Oswaldo Cabrera goes 2-for-3, hits first spring homer
Oswaldo Cabrera went 2-for-3 and hit his first spring homer Monday against the Phillies.

Advice: With Oswald Peraza set to land on the IL and DJ LeMahieu perhaps joining him, Cabrera, who hit .211/.275/.299 in 330 PA last season, might be the Yankees’ Opening Day third baseman. The team’s decision not to pursue any veteran utility options over the winter is looking worse and worse, though odds are that Brian Cashman will pick up at least one option in trade or on waivers before the season begins. • Braves reassign David Fletcher to minor camp
The Braves reassigned INFs David Fletcher, Andrew Velazquez and Luke Williams, Cs Drake Baldwin and Chadwick Tromp and OF Eli White to minor league camp.

Advice: The move brings the Braves’ roster down to 28 players in spring camp. Two of those players are Penn Murfee and Angel Perdomo, who are expected to go on the 60-day IL so it appears Atlanta has it’s Opening Day roster ready to go. This also means that Forrest Wall will earn the 26th and final roster spot, if the team decides not to bring anyone else in. Wall made the postseason roster last season and after putting together a solid camp with a .971 OPS and 10 RBI across 33 plate appearances, he will be rewarded to start the 2024 season. • Roster bid falls short
Atlanta reassigned Fletcher to minor-league camp Monday.

Advice: He was sent to minor-league camp Monday along with Luke Williams, Andrew Velazquez and Eli White, with their demotions suggesting that Forrest Wall has won the final available bench spot on Atlanta's Opening Day roster. Fletcher hit .324/.366/.351 over 16 games during Grapefruit League play. Rotowire.com Today, 1:12 pm
  • Good shot to make big club
Ortiz has a "good shot" to make the Opening Day roster, according to manager Pat Murphy, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Ortiz is known for his excellent infield defense, but he's no slouch at the plate either. He is slashing .261/.393/.522 with one home run and one steal in 28 Cactus League plate appearances. If the Brewers trade Willy Adames during the season, Ortiz would likely take over as the everyday shortstop, but in the meantime, he could be an everyday option at third base while sometimes shifting to second base when the Brewers face a lefty. • Cora: Red Sox will use a platoon at 2B
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said the team will use a platoon at second base to start the season.

Advice: Cora had previously said that starting second baseman Vaughn Grissom (groin) is likely to return in mid or late April, so it appears the team will use a collection of players at the keystone until he returns. Enmanuel Valdez figures to see the most time, but prospect Ceddanne Rafaela also has experience in the middle infield and could see enough appearances there early in the season to add eligibility for fantasy leagues, which would be valuable. • IL stint expected
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Monday that Diaz (calf) is likely to begin the season on the injured list, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Diaz suffered a calf strain while rehabbing from a groin strain last week and won't be ready to resume a running program until later this week. He won't have enough time to fully ramp up ahead of Opening Day, even if he avoids another setback. In addition to the injury, Diaz's playing-time outlook also took a hit with the Athletics' recent addition of J.D. Davis. Rotowire.com Today, 9:45 am
