• Optioned to Iowa
The Cubs optioned Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Mastrobuoni was able to crack the Opening Day roster with Patrick Wisdom on the injured list before the season began. He appeared in just eight games and only reached base once on a walk across 13 plate appearances. In a corresponding move, Patrick Wisdom was activated from the 10-day injured list. • Cubs option Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A
Cubs optioned INF/OF Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Mastrobuoni has been shipped back to the minors with Patrick Wisdom returning from the injured list to take his spot on Chicago’s bench. The 28-year-old’s defensive versatility is a nice feature for the Cubs, but he’s gone 0-for-12 at the dish this season, and is a career .217 hitter in the majors. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago

  • Brandon Drury (hamstring) pinch-hits on Thursday
Brandon Drury (hamstring) grounded out as a pinch-hitter on Thursday in the Angels’ loss to the Rays.

Advice: Drury was held out of the lineup for the third consecutive contest due to ongoing left hamstring tightness, but was able to come off the bench in the ninth inning of this one. The 31-year-old infielder remains day-to-day for now and should be a full-go in a couple days, if not sooner. Rotoworld Today, 1:51 pm

  • Steals two bags in Wednesday's win
Garcia went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: The 23-year-old stole a career-high nine bases last year, and Garcia is already 3-for-3 on the basepaths to begin 2024. After looking like his starting job at second base might be in jeopardy this spring, Garcia's come out of the gate slashing .294/.321/.490 through 16 games with seven doubles, a homer, four runs and eight RBI. He's also been working his way into a better spot in the batting order against right-handers, and he hit cleanup Wednesday. If he stays in the heart of the lineup, Garcia's counting-stat production should pick up. Rotowire.com Today, 9:11 am
  • Royals option Nick Loftin to Triple-A
Royals optioned INF Nick Loftin to Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: Loftin did a nice job filling in for Michael Massey by going 8-for-29 (.276 AVG) with six RBI and only five strike outs. The 25-year-old could have another opportunity if there is another injury to Kansas City’s infield. The Royals didn’t announce it, but with this move, it’s more likely than not that Michael Massey will return from the injured list and start his season against the Orioles this weekend. • Expected back Friday
Massey (back) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Anne Rogers reports.

Advice: Nick Loftin was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday and Massey is expected to be activated in a corresponding move ahead of the Royals' weekend series against the Orioles. Massey has been out all season with a lower-back injury but slashed .382/.417/.706 with two home runs in eight rehab games between Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The 26-year-old should share playing time at second base with Adam Frazier once activated. Rotowire.com Today, 9:07 am
  • Sent to Triple-A
The Royals optioned Loftin to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Advice: The transaction likely clears the way for infielder Michael Massey (back) to be activated from the 10-day injured list, but the Royals will wait until shortly before Friday's game against the Orioles before announcing a corresponding move. Loftin has slashed .276/.371/.276 over 13 games in a part-time role for Kansas City this season. Rotowire.com Today, 9:03 am
  • Could be nearing promotion
Martinez crushed a 10th-inning grand slam Wednesday to give Triple-A Buffalo a 12-9 win over Columbus.

Advice: The ball traveled an estimated 469 feet and left Huntington Park completely, landing onto a second-floor patio in a building behind the left-field bleachers. Martinez has had a strong start to the season, slashing .296/.356/.519 over 14 games with six doubles, two homers and 10 RBI, and his 20.3 percent strikeout rate is a significant step forward from the 27.0 percent mark he posted with Buffalo in 2023. The Blue Jays have used four different players at second base already this season, rotating Cavan Biggio, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Davis Schneider and Ernie Clement through the keystone, but none of them offer the upside of the 22-year-old Martinez. If the front office deems him ready for the next challenge, his big-league debut could come at any time, but his bat may not be the thing holding him back -- Martinez has committed five errors already this season in his 13 starts at second base. • MRI comes back negative
An MRI on Gonzalez's left wrist came back negative, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Gonzalez felt pain while taking swings Wednesday, but it appears he's avoided a serious setback. The Red Sox still figure to shut him down for a bit to let the wrist calm down. Gonzalez had been hoping for a return from the injured list when his 10 days are up, but that's unlikely now. Rotowire.com Today, 8:17 am
