• Hitting, running to follow
Thomas (hamstring) has taken batting practice is now advancing to running the bases, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Thomas was set commence the baserunning portion of his recovery Wednesday. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said he's not yet at full speed but is progressing well in his recovery. The Diamondbacks do not yet have a target date for the outfielder to begin a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

  • Collects two hits in loss
McCarthy started in left field and went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to St. Louis.

Advice: McCarthy slotted in for Lourdes Gurriel, who was rested for an afternoon tilt following a night game. McCarthy has been on a roll, hitting safely in seven of eight contests at 9-for-24 (.375) with three walks, two steals, three RBI and five runs. He'll continue to make three or four starts per week until Alek Thomas (hamstring) is ready to return. The injured outfielder has begun taking batting practice and is ready to run the bases, per Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

  • Rangers outright Jared Walsh to Triple-A
Rangers sent 1B Jared Walsh outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: It’s a bit surprising to see the 30-year-old slugger pass through waivers unclaimed, though he hit just .226/.317/.321 with a homer and seven RBI in 60 plate appearances with the Rangers while covering for the injured Nathaniel Lowe. He’ll continue to function as excess depth at Triple-A. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

  • Blue Jays recall Addison Barger from Triple-A
Blue Jays recalled INF Addison Barger from Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: The 24-year-old is taking the place of the injured Kevin Kiermaier (hip) on the team’s active roster. Barger was off to a terrific start at Triple-A Buffalo, slashing .314/.435/.586 with three homers and 21 RBI through his first 19 games. He’ll add depth and versatility on the Jays’ bench. • Blue Jays place Kevin Kiermaier (hip) on 10-day IL
Blue Jays placed OF Kevin Kiermaier on the 10-day injured list with left hip flexor inflammation.

Advice: Kiermaier suffered the injury during Tuesday’s game against the Royals and he wasn’t feeling much better on Wednesday, so the Blue Jays were forced to place him on the injured list. Addison Barger was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to take his place on the Jays’ active roster. Rotoworld 42 minutes ago

  • Two-run double in win
Nootbaar went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Nootbaar doubled in his final at-bat of the contest to send home Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 lead. It was only the left fielder's fourth multi-base hit of the season, though he's now driven in two runs in two of his last three games. Nootbaar has also hit safely in six of his last seven contests, but is still yet to put together a multi-hit performance. Rotowire.com Today, 4:28 pm

  • Mike Trout first to reach 10 homers this season
Mike Trout became the first major leaguer to reach 10 homers this season when he took the Orioles’ Dean Kremer deep on Wednesday.

Advice: Trout’s 10th homer came in his 25th game. He still has just 13 RBI, since he’s not hitting singles (.237 average) and he’s especially not hitting with men on base. Things don’t figure to get much better there if the Angels leave him in the leadoff spot. Rotoworld Today, 4:17 pm

  • Tyrone Taylor homers, doubles against Giants
Starting for the first time in six games, Tyrone Taylor delivered a homer and a two-run double against the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: We took issue with the Mets starting Joey Wendle over Taylor last night, and this kind of thing is why. Taylor is a little short of being a quality regular, but not by much. He’s hitting .327/.358/.510 in 54 plate appearances this season. Rotoworld Today, 3:53 pm

  • Tyler Fitzgerald hits first homer for Giants
Tyler Fitzgerald hit his first homer of the year Wednesday against the Mets.

Advice: The 381-foot homer accounted for the first earned run allowed this year by breakout Mets reliever Reed Garrett. Playing against lefties, Fitzgerald has hit .269/.321/.538 in his 28 plate appearances this season. An expanded role still doesn’t seem likely, but he does offer versatility if injuries strike.
