  • Mariners outright Shed Long off 40-man roster
Mariners sent INF/OF Shed Long outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Long will become a free agent following the conclusion of the World Series. The 26-year-old had some initial success with the Mariners in 2019, but he's struggled the last two seasons while battling a stress fracture in his right shin. He had a second surgery on the shin last week and his agent, Nate Heisler, said that his client will be 100 percent for spring training. Long shouldn't have trouble finding another organization willing to roll the dice on him. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 11:32 am

  • Franklin Barreto outrighted off 40-man roster
Angels sent INF Franklin Barreto outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Barreto missed the entire 2021 campaign following Tommy John surgery. The former top prospect is still only 25 but hasn't found any success at the major league level. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 9:43 am

  • That's more like it: Turner picks up three hits
Trea Turner went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on Thursday in a Game 5 win over the Braves in the NLCS.

Advice: Well, that's more like it. Turner -- after an outstanding regular season -- has struggled mightily in the postseason, but was able to have a breakout game when the Dodgers needed it most. The Dodgers probably would have been just fine without it, but it's still nice to see. He hit a pair of opposite-field singles before blistering a ball into left to score Mookie Betts. It's a very positive sign for Los Angeles, as they need Turner at his best if they're going to win two more games to advance to the World Series. It sure wouldn't hurt, anyway.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:42 pm

  • CT3 homers three times as Dodgers clobber Braves
Chris Taylor homered three times and drove in six runs as the Dodgers clobbered the Braves 11-2 on Thursday in Game 5 of the NLCS.

Advice: It's the first time a player has hit three homers in a possible elimination game. Taylor had a chance to become that first player with four homers in a postseason game, but struck out in the ninth inning. It's a sensational game from a player that has had plenty of highs in his time with the Dodgers, and it helps the Dodgers win their seventh-consecutive game with a chance to be eliminated. Taylor and the Dodgers will head to Atlanta for Game 6 on Saturday. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:42 pm

  • Rockies outright Ruiz to Triple-A Albuquerque
Rockies sent INF Rio Ruiz outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Ruiz was claimed off waivers from the Orioles over the summer, and he hit just .168 with the Rockies and Baltimore in 2021. He'll likely be non-tendered and seek a new opportunity in 2022.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 2:30 pm

  • Muncy (elbow) won't comment on cleared activities
Max Muncy confirmed he's no longer wearing a brace on his left elbow.

Advice: While he did confirm he no longer needed a brace -- something that was apparent after he presented lineups in a prior game -- Muncy did not comment on what activities he's been cleared for. The 31-year-old dislocated his left elbow on October 3 in the regular season finale, and if even if the Dodgers win these next three games to advance to the World Series, it seems unlikely he'll be an option for the Fall Classic.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 2:14 pm

Marlins sent INF Eddy Alvarez outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.

  • Cubs outright Tyler Ladendorf to Triple-A Iowa
Cubs sent INF Tyler Ladendorf outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Ladendorf made one appearance for the Cubs in their penultimate regular season contest back on October 2. The 33-year-old minor-league journeyman spent the entire season at Triple-A Iowa, hitting .241/.297/.424 with eight homers and one steal across 210 plate appearances. He should be able to latch on as organizational infield depth somewhere this offseason. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 2:16 pm

  • Gavin Lux back in center field in Game 4 of NLCS
Gavin Lux is back in center field and batting fifth in Game 4 of the NLCS on Wednesday versus the Braves.

Advice: Lux made a bad defensive blunder in Game 3 on Tuesday as the Braves put up four runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Dodgers managed to pull out a 6-5 comeback victory and will roll with the same starting lineup for Game 4: Mookie Betts RF, Corey Seager SS, Trea Turner 2B, Will Smith C, Gavin Lux CF, Justin Turner 3B, Cody Bellinger 1B, Chris Taylor LF and Julio Urias SP. • Jose Altuve hits game-tying homer in eighth inning
Jose Altuve swatted a game-tying, solo home run in the eighth inning Tuesday as the Astros came back to beat the Red Sox.

Advice: Garrett Whitlock got through the seventh inning unscathed, but his first pitch of the eighth was drilled by Altuve well over the Green Monster to knot things up at 2-2. The Astros went on to explode for seven runs in the ninth to even the series. Altuve's home run was the 21st of his postseason career, which ranks third all-time behind Manny Ramirez and Bernie Williams. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 9:18 pm

  • Max Muncy (elbow) hasn't resumed swinging a bat
Max Muncy (elbow) has yet to resume swinging a bat.

Advice: Muncy dislocated his left elbow on a play at first base during the Dodgers' regular season finale on October 3 and said over the weekend that it was still "very painful." It sounds like it would take a small miracle for him to be available if the Dodgers advance to the World Series next week.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 1:29 pm

  • Report: Mets, Báez could talk extension quickly
Andy Martino of SNY.tv hears from league sources that there's a "real chance" the Mets and Javier Báez could agree early in the offseason on a contract extension.

Advice: This doesn't mean that Báez won't test free agency first, but there seems to be mutual interest in hammering out an agreement, even with the Mets actively looking for new front office leadership. Báez had a close relationship with Francisco Lindor even before coming to Queens and they both thrived late in the season while working together in the cage. The impending free agent also had several conversations with owner Steve Cohen following the season and appear to be on the same page about the vision for the franchise. Martino hears that Báez could be "inclined to stay" if the Mets make a serious offer early, though it's unclear what that offer could entail. It will surely be something in the $150-200 million range. Baez, who turns 29 in December, slashed .299/.371/.515 with nine homers, 22 RBI, and five steals over 47 games after being traded from Chicago to New York.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 11:45 am

  • Cashman: Gleyber Torres best suited at second base
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that Gleyber Torres is best-suited at second base.

Advice: This doesn't come as a big surprise after the Yankees moved Torres over to second base in mid-September. Perhaps the full-time move will take some pressure off him and allow him to thrive at the plate once again. Cashman also said Tuesday that "shortstop is an area of need" and they "have to address it." In other words, look for them to be heavily-involved in the deep market for free agent shortstops this offseason.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 8:31 am

  • DJ LeMahieu had core muscle repair surgery
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that DJ LeMahieu underwent core muscle repair surgery.

Advice: The procedure carries an eight-week timetable for recovery, so LeMahieu should be fine for the start of spring training. The 33-year-old disappointed in the first year of his six-year, $90 million contract with the Yankees, batting .268/.349/.362 with 10 homers and 57 RBI over 150 games. The team will have to hope that he sees some improvement with a clean bill of health.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 8:26 am

  • Red Sox's Arroyo hits first postseason homer
Christian Arroyo hit his first postseason homer Monday off the Astros' Yimi Garcia.

Advice: It was a two-run shot. Arroyo, who barely played down the stretch for Boston, also had a third RBI on a fielder's choice tonight. He hadn't driven in a run in seven postseason games coming into the day. NBCSportsEDGE.com Monday, 8:27 pm

  • Chris Taylor smacks two-run double in Game 2 loss
Chris Taylor smacked a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning on Sunday, but the Dodgers still wound up falling to the Braves in Game 2 of the NLCS.

Advice: The Dodgers got their rally going with a leadoff walk by Mookie Betts, a two-out intentional walk to Will Smith and Justin Turner getting hit by a pitch. Turner then poked an 0-1 offering from Luke Jackson for a two-run double to give the Dodgers the lead. He finished the night 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base and is now hitting .286/.407/.571 with a homer and six RBI on the postseason. NBCSportsEDGE.com Sunday, 8:50 pm

  • Chris Taylor collects two hits in loss to Braves
Chris Taylor went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI as the Dodgers fell to the Braves in Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday night in Atlanta.

Advice: Taylor got the Dodgers on the board with a game-tying RBI single off of Max Fried in the second inning. He then swiped second base but wound up being stranded there. He also led off the seventh inning with a double, was sacrificed to third by Austin Barnes, but again the Dodgers were unable to cash him in. With the two-hit night, he's now hitting .263/.348/.526 with a homer, four RBI and a stolen base this postseason. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 8:30 pm

  • Max Muncy (elbow) left off Dodgers' NLCS roster
Max Muncy (elbow) has been left off the Dodgers' roster for the NLCS against the Braves.

Advice: Veteran left-hander David Price and reserve outfielder/first baseman Billy McKinney have also been left off, replaced by relievers Justin Bruihl and Evan Phillips, as the Dodgers will go with 13 position players and 13 pitchers. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Muncy was unlikely to be ready to return for the best-of-seven series against the Braves. The 31-year-old first-baseman has yet to resume baseball activities, but could be an option if the Dodgers make it back to the World Series later this month. Cody Bellinger and Matt Beaty will continue to split time at the cold corner. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 7:48 am

  • Lux playing CF, batting sixth in Game 5 of NLDS
Gavin Lux is starting in center field and hitting sixth in Game 5 of the NLDS on Thursday night against the Giants.

  • Gavin Lux will start for Dodgers in NLDS Game 5
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Gavin Lux will be in the starting lineup on Thursday night for Game 5 of the NLDS against the Giants.

Advice: Roberts wouldn't specify exactly what position Lux will play to kick-off Thursday night's winner-take-all elimination affair, but he'll be patrolling either left field or center field in place of AJ Pollock or Chris Taylor to open the contest. • Altuve stars Tuesday as Astros advance to ALCS
Jose Altuve went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and four runs scored Tuesday as the Astros beat the White Sox to advance to the ALCS.

Advice: Altuve did a little bit of everything in this one. He ripped the first pitch of the game for a double, was hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored in the third, singled and scored in the fourth and then scored again in the eighth after reaching on an error. He then provided an exclamation point in the ninth inning with a no-doubt, three-run blast off of Liam Hendriks in the ninth inning. It was the 19th home run of Altuve's postseason career, which is tied for the fourth-most of all-time. He's also now third all-time in career postseason RBI with 43. It's going to be a rematch of the 2018 ALCS with the Astros moving on to face the Red Sox. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 3:43 pm
