  • Spencer Torkelson (ankle) won't return to AFL
Tigers infield prospect Spencer Torkelson (ankle) has been ruled out for the rest of the Arizona Fall League season.

Advice: Torkelson suffered a sprained ankle while attempting to get back to third base on a pickoff attempt. The good news is that he is expected to be ready for the start of spring training. The top prospect should debut relatively early on next season. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 12:50 pm

  • CT3 homers three times as Dodgers clobber Braves
Chris Taylor homered three times and drove in six runs as the Dodgers clobbered the Braves 11-2 on Thursday in Game 5 of the NLCS.

Advice: It's the first time a player has hit three homers in a possible elimination game. Taylor had a chance to become that first player with four homers in a postseason game, but struck out in the ninth inning. It's a sensational game from a player that has had plenty of highs in his time with the Dodgers, and it helps the Dodgers win their seventh-consecutive game with a chance to be eliminated. Taylor and the Dodgers will head to Atlanta for Game 6 on Saturday. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 8:42 pm

  • Torkelson (ankle) to miss 'significant time'
William Boor of MLB Pipeline reports that Tigers INF prospect Spencer Torkelson is expected to miss "a significant amount of time" with his ankle injury.

Advice: Torkelson left Wednesday's Arizona Fall League game with an ankle injury while attempting to get back to third base on a pickoff attempt. Jason Beck reports from a source that it's a sprained ankle, but the severity of that ankle sprain doesn't appear to be known at this time. The 2019 first-overall pick hasn't been removed from the roster yet, but the Tigers will obviously not risk their best prospect -- and one of their most important players -- playing in exhibition games. It would not be a shock if his AFL season was over, and the hope is this won't carry over into spring training.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 4:33 pm

  • Rockies outright Ruiz to Triple-A Albuquerque
Rockies sent INF Rio Ruiz outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Ruiz was claimed off waivers from the Orioles over the summer, and he hit just .168 with the Rockies and Baltimore in 2021. He'll likely be non-tendered and seek a new opportunity in 2022.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 2:30 pm

  • Rockies outright INF Fuentes to Triple-A
Rockies sent INF Joshua Fuentes outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: The move clears room on the 40-man roster. Fuentes was awful in 2021 with a .225/.257/.351 slash, and is nothing more than organizational depth. There's a good chance that organization isn't the Rockies in 2022.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 2:27 pm

  • Muncy (elbow) won't comment on cleared activities
Max Muncy confirmed he's no longer wearing a brace on his left elbow.

Advice: While he did confirm he no longer needed a brace -- something that was apparent after he presented lineups in a prior game -- Muncy did not comment on what activities he's been cleared for. The 31-year-old dislocated his left elbow on October 3 in the regular season finale, and if even if the Dodgers win these next three games to advance to the World Series, it seems unlikely he'll be an option for the Fall Classic.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 2:14 pm

  • Justin Turner (hamstring) done for 2021 postseason
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said late Wednesday that Justin Turner has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

Advice: Roberts added that Turner is most likely done for the remainder of the postseason, even if the Dodgers manage to advance to the World Series. The 36-year-old veteran third baseman sustained the injury running out a ground ball in the seventh inning of the Dodgers' NLCS Game 4 loss to the Braves. • Justin Turner exits NLCS Game 4 with leg injury
Justin Turner was removed from Game 4 of the NLCS on Wednesday night with an apparent leg injury.

Advice: Turner appeared to sustain a left hamstring injury running out a ground ball in the seventh inning. Chris Taylor moved over to third base, Mookie Betts shifted to center field and Steven Souza Jr. took over in right field. The 36-year-old veteran third baseman has struggled mightily at the dish, hitting .200 (4-for-34) across 10 games this postseason. There should be an update on his status shortly. • Gurriel plates three, Astros crush Red Sox
Yuli Gurriel went 3-for-5 with three RBI on Wednesday in a Game 5 victory over the Red Sox in the ALCS.

Advice: The hits keep coming for Gurriel. He doubled in a run in the sixth to extend the Houston lead to 4-0, and his two-run single in the ninth cemented the blowout by making it 9-1. It's nothing new for Gurriel as he's been an outstanding postseason performer, and with the three-hit night has him slashing .474/.524/.684 in these first five contests of the ALCS.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 5:46 pm

  • Devers homers for only Red Sox run in loss
Rafael Devers went 2-for-3 with a homer in a Game 5 loss to the Astros on Wednesday in the ALCS.

Advice: Devers blistered a homer around the Pesky Pole off Framber Valdez for Boston's first -- and only -- run in the contest. It's the third homer of the series for the 24-year-old slugger, and he's slashed .350/.435/.800. The Red Sox are a loss from elimination, but none of that is Devers' fault.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 5:44 pm

  • Justin Turner dropped to sixth for NLCS Game 4
Justin Turner has been dropped to the sixth spot in the Dodgers' lineup for Game 4 of the NLCS on Wednesday night against the Braves.

Advice: Turner, who has been dealing with a minor neck issue lately, has swapped lineup spots with outfielder Gavin Lux after the Braves scratched righty Huascar Ynoa due to shoulder inflammation. The decision increases the probability that Lux, who bats left-handed, will get an at-bat against righty opener Jesse Chavez before southpaw Drew Smyly enters as a bulk reliever. The 36-year-old veteran stalwart is hitting an abysmal .097 (3-for-31) with one home run across nine games this postseason. Cubs sent INF Tyler Ladendorf outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Ladendorf made one appearance for the Cubs in their penultimate regular season contest back on October 2. The 33-year-old minor-league journeyman spent the entire season at Triple-A Iowa, hitting .241/.297/.424 with eight homers and one steal across 210 plate appearances. • Spencer Torkelson exits AFL game with ankle injury
Tigers infield prospect Spencer Torkelson exited Wednesday's Arizona Fall League contest with an ankle injury.

Advice: Torkelson, the first overall selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, limped off the field after rolling his ankle while attempting to get back to third base on a pickoff attempt in an Arizona Fall League contest. The 22-year-old top prospect was tearing the cover off the ball recently after slashing .267/.383/.522 with 30 home runs and five stolen bases across 530 plate appearances between High-A West Michigan, Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo this season. Advice: Muncy dislocated his left elbow on a play at first base during the Dodgers' regular season finale on October 3 and said over the weekend that it was still "very painful." • Chris Taylor smacks two-run double in Game 2 loss
Chris Taylor smacked a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning on Sunday, but the Dodgers still wound up falling to the Braves in Game 2 of the NLCS.

Advice: The Dodgers got their rally going with a leadoff walk by Mookie Betts, a two-out intentional walk to Will Smith and Justin Turner getting hit by a pitch. Turner then poked an 0-1 offering from Luke Jackson for a two-run double to give the Dodgers the lead. • Austin Riley homers, leads Braves to walk-off win
Austin Riley homered and delivered a walk-off RBI single in the ninth inning on Saturday, propelling the Braves to a 3-2 victory over the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS

Advice: Riley blasted a 381-foot game-tying solo shot off of Tony Gonsolin with two outs in the fourth inning that tied the score at 2-2. That's how the score would remain until the home half of the ninth inning. There Ozzie Albies reached on a bloop single, swiped second base and then Riley laced a ball into the left field corner to deliver the game-winning run. He also led off the seventh inning with a double, was sacrificed to third by Austin Barnes, but again the Dodgers were unable to cash him in. • Rafael Devers crushes grand slam in Game 2 rout
Rafael Devers crushed a grand slam in the second inning on Saturday as the Red Sox routed the Astros in Game 2 of the ALCS.

Advice: This one got out of hand quickly. J.D. Martinez swatted a grand slam in the opening inning, then Devers extended that lead to 8-0 with his four-run blast off of Jake Odorizzi in the second inning. It's the first time in MLB postseason history that a team has hit two grand slams in the same game -- let alone in back-to-back innings. • Max Muncy (elbow) left off Dodgers' NLCS roster
Max Muncy (elbow) has been left off the Dodgers' roster for the NLCS against the Braves.

Advice: Veteran left-hander David Price and reserve outfielder/first baseman Billy McKinney have also been left off, replaced by relievers Justin Bruihl and Evan Phillips, as the Dodgers will go with 13 position players and 13 pitchers. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Muncy was unlikely to be ready to return for the best-of-seven series against the Braves. The 31-year-old first-baseman has yet to resume baseball activities, but could be an option if the Dodgers make it back to the World Series later this month. Advice: The Dodgers last-minute decision to pivot to righty reliever Corey Knebel as an opener ahead of lefty Julio Urías didn't alter the Giants' lineup dramatically, but they waited until after pre-game warmups to see how La Stella, who has been bothered by an Achilles issue for the last few weeks, responded before submitting their official card for the winner-take-all affair.
