  • Chirinos (elbow) will not be ready Opening Day
Yonny Chirinos will not be ready for Opening Day day after undergoing surgery for a fractured elbow in late September.

Advice: The 27-year-old was 13-months removed from Tommy John surgery before suffering a fractured elbow while throwing live batting practice in late September. The good news is that his repaired ulnar5 collateral ligament was not damaged. Tampa Bay hopes to have their right-hander back by late April or May if there are no further setbacks.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 2:22 pm

Hirokazu Sawamura is dealing with right hamstring discomfort and could be removed from the Red Sox' ALCS roster.

Advice: Sawamura will throw prior to Friday's Game 6 and the team will make a determination on his status then. It's not clear who would take his spot. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 1:36 pm

  • Kevin Plawecki catching for Red Sox on Friday
Kevin Plawecki is starting at catcher and batting ninth for the Red Sox on Friday against the Astros in Game 6 of the ALCS.

Advice: Plawecki has caught both Nathan Eovaldi starts this series, with Christian Vazquez handling the other four games. The Red Sox also moved Hunter Renfroe -- who has one hit in the series -- down to the eight spot. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 1:35 pm

  • Chas McCormick starting in CF in Game 6
Chas McCormick is starting in center field and batting eighth for the Astros in Friday's ALCS Game 6 versus the Red Sox.

  • Spencer Torkelson (ankle) won't return to AFL
Tigers infield prospect Spencer Torkelson (ankle) has been ruled out for the rest of the Arizona Fall League season.

Advice: Torkelson suffered a sprained ankle while attempting to get back to third base on a pickoff attempt. The good news is that he is expected to be ready for the start of spring training. The top prospect should debut relatively early on next season. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 12:50 pm

Cardinals claimed RHP Ljay Newsome off waivers from the Mariners.

Advice: Newsome is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and likely won't be ready to pitch until at least midseason next year. When healthy, the 25-year-old's great control gives him a shot to be a back-end starter. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 12:42 pm

  • Mariners outright Shed Long off 40-man roster
Mariners sent INF/OF Shed Long outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Long will become a free agent following the conclusion of the World Series. The 26-year-old had some initial success with the Mariners in 2019, but he's struggled the last two seasons while battling a stress fracture in his right shin. He had a second surgery on the shin last week and his agent, Nate Heisler, said that his client will be 100 percent for spring training. Long shouldn't have trouble finding another organization willing to roll the dice on him. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 11:32 am

  • Justin Bruihl dealing with sore pitching arm
Justin Bruihl could be removed from the Dodgers' NLCS roster because of a sore pitching arm.

Advice: The left-hander felt some soreness in his arm while warming up in the bullpen during Thursday's Game 5. Manager Dave Roberts said the club will bring another pitcher with them to Atlanta in case Bruihl needs to be replaced, although he didn't specify who that was. • David Price likely to replace Kelly on NLCS roster
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters after Game 5 on Thursday that David Price is at the "top of the list" to replace Joe Kelly on the NLCS roster.

Advice: Roberts said that the team is considering a few players, but that Price was "on the top of the list." Price wasn't included on the NLCS roster to begin the series, but there will be an opener after the Dodgers remove Joe Kelly, who is going to miss the rest of the season with a right biceps strain. The left-hander should be available for an inning or two on Saturday.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 9:52 pm

  • Torkelson (ankle) to miss 'significant time'
William Boor of MLB Pipeline reports that Tigers INF prospect Spencer Torkelson is expected to miss "a significant amount of time" with his ankle injury.

Advice: Torkelson left Wednesday's Arizona Fall League game with an ankle injury while attempting to get back to third base on a pickoff attempt. Jason Beck reports from a source that it's a sprained ankle, but the severity of that ankle sprain doesn't appear to be known at this time. The 2019 first-overall pick hasn't been removed from the roster yet, but the Tigers will obviously not risk their best prospect -- and one of their most important players -- playing in exhibition games. It would not be a shock if his AFL season was over, and the hope is this won't carry over into spring training.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 4:33 pm

  • Spencer Torkelson exits AFL game with ankle injury
Tigers infield prospect Spencer Torkelson exited Wednesday's Arizona Fall League contest with an ankle injury.

Advice: Torkelson, the first overall selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, limped off the field after rolling his ankle while attempting to get back to third base on a pickoff attempt in an Arizona Fall League contest. The 22-year-old top prospect was tearing the cover off the ball recently after slashing .267/.383/.522 with 30 home runs and five stolen bases across 530 plate appearances between High-A West Michigan, Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo this season. He appears to have avoided a potentially serious injury and there should be an additional update on his status in the next few days. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 2:13 pm
