    • Steele tosses six scoreless in no-decision
Justin Steele threw six shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: Steele gave up three hits, walked one and struck out five. He was in line for his first win of the season before the bullpen blew the lead. Steele lowered his ERA to 3.22 with the effort. After missing all of April due to injury, he’s now completed at least five innings and had at least five strikeouts in six consecutive starts. Steele finished fifth in the National League Cy Young award voting last year and appears to have regained that form this year. The 28-year-old left-hander is set to face the Giants at home next week.

    • Reynaldo López shuts out Orioles for six in win
Reynaldo López shut out the Orioles for six innings, striking out eight, in the Braves’ 6-3 win Thursday.

Advice: López left with a four-run lead, which was fortunate since Pierce Johnson gave up a three-run homer in the seventh. It’s just the fourth victory for López, even though he’s allowed three runs or fewer in all 12 of his starts. If he had done this for the 2023 Braves, he’d probably have at least twice as many wins right now. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:01 pm

    • Jacob Young goes 0-for-3 in loss to Tigers
Jacob Young finished 0-for-3 against the Tigers on Thursday and is 2-for-23 in his last seven games.

Advice: Young did have two hard-hit balls today, which is notable considering that his 25% hard-hit rate is among the lowest in the majors. Power isn’t at all Young’s game, but it’s disturbing that his OBP has collapsed. He’s hit .217 and walked just three times in 99 plate appearances since May 10. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:28 pm

    • Tosses another gem
Lopez (4-2) earned the win Thursday, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk over six innings against the Orioles. He struck out eight.

Advice: Lopez allowed only three baserunners on the day, never more than one in an inning, and matched a season-high with eight strikeouts. The right-hander now has eight quality starts while never allowing more than three runs in an outing and allowing two runs or less in 11 of his 12 starts. Lopez will carry a league-leading 1.69 ERA into his next turn through the rotation, which is currently scheduled to take place early next week versus Detroit. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:13 pm

    • Taking seat Thursday
Wong is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Phillies.

Advice: The Red Sox will go with Reese McGuire behind the dish in the rubber game of the series. Wong had started each of the previous six contests, with five of those coming at catcher. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:49 am

    • Could start rehab games Tuesday
Contreras (forearm) is hoping to begin a rehab assignment around June 18, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Contreras is just five weeks into a projected 10-week timetable following surgery to repair a fractured left forearm, but Goold writes that the catcher is "eager to push the timetable for his return." He took batting practice in the cage Thursday and has been catching bullpen sessions without issue. If Contreras is indeed able to start a rehab assignment by Tuesday, he could be just a week or so away from activation. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:26 am

    • Taking full BP in cage
Contreras (forearm) will take full batting practice in the indoor batting cage Thursday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Contreras is barely more than a month removed from surgery to repair a fractured left forearm. He was given a 10-week timetable to return following the operation but would appear to be ahead of schedule, given that he's already taking batting practice. Before being activated from the injured list, Contreras will surely need to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment, but it's uncertain when he might be cleared to join one of the Cardinals' affiliates for game action. • Belts 11th homer
Abrams went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Tigers.

Advice: The shortstop launched a solo shot off Reese Olson in the third inning to get the Nationals on the board. Abrams has shaken off his May slump, hitting safely in six straight games with six of his seven hits (three doubles, a triple and two homers) during that stretch going for extra bases. On the season, the 23-year-old is slashing .248/.296/.472 with 11 homers, 10 steals, 34 RBI and 38 runs in 61 contests. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:42 am

    • Swats homer No. 10
Olson went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Orioles.

Advice: The first baseman spoiled Baltimore's combined shutout bid by taking Keegan Akin deep in the eighth inning. Olson has hit safely in six straight games, and over his last 16 contests he's slashing .328/.385/.586 with three of his 10 homers on the season. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:11 am
