    • Another sim game coming next week
      Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list shortly thereafter, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

      Advice: After tossing 31- and 37-pitch bullpen sessions last week, Gallen advanced to facing hitters in a simulated game Tuesday. Gallen's strained right hamstring apparently responded well to the workout, but the Diamondbacks will still have him toss another sim game during the upcoming week before signing off on his return to the rotation.     • Tosses quality start but takes loss
      Crochet (6-6) took the loss against Houston on Wednesday, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over six innings.

      Advice: Crochet racked up a hearty 19 whiffs and eight punchouts, but it wasn't enough to keep him out of the loss column in a contest during which he was supported with just one run. The fact that the three earned runs were the most the left-hander has allowed since April 24 speaks volumes about the quality of his campaign thus far. Crochet has tallied six consecutive quality starts and is tied for 10th in the majors with 10 total on the campaign.       Hader allowed one hit in a scoreless inning while striking out one batter to earn a save against the White Sox on Wednesday.

      Advice: It was a relatively easy outing for Hader, who entered in the ninth with Houston ahead by three runs. The veteran closer allowed a one-out single but was never in serious trouble.     • Collects two hits, stolen base
      Langford went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base in a 5-3 victory versus the Mets on Wednesday.

      Advice: Langford logged an RBI on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the first inning and added a run-scoring single in the sixth. The rookie finished with his sixth multi-hit effort in June and pushed his batting average up to .288 on the month. That's a nice improvement after Langford batted just .222 coming into June, and the added hits have helped him become more of a run producer.       Cole (elbow) didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Orioles, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts over four innings.

      Advice: Cole surrendered a run on an RBI double by Ryan O'Hearn in the first inning then settled in over the next three frames. He allowed a single to Cedric Mullins to open the fifth and was pulled after throwing 62 pitches, but Mullins scored on a home run surrendered by Yankees reliever Ron Marinaccio. Cole maxed out at 68 pitches during his minor-league rehab assignment, so the Yankees seemed to ease him back in for his 2024 MLB debut.     • Gerrit Cole allows two runs in four-plus innings
      Gerrit Cole lasted for four-plus innings in his return to the Yankees on Wednesday against the Orioles. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed two earned runs in a loss.

      Advice: Cole was not his sharpest, understandably, in this one. The Orioles are a tough matchup and they made lots of loud contact as Cole struggled with command, especially with his knuckle curve.     • Homers twice in win
      Naylor went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Mariners.

      Advice: Naylor opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning. He then added a two-run home run in the fifth and a solo homer in the seventh. Naylor has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 10-for-26 with three homers and seven RBI. While Naylor's current .237 average is well below last year's .308 mark, he has a .272 expected batting average and is just one homer shy of tying his career high of 20 in 2022.       Josh Hader tossed a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout to record the save against the White Sox on Wednesday.

      Garrett Crochet allowed three runs with eight strikeouts across six innings in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

      Advice: Crochet came into this one on a roll, not allowing more than two runs over each of his last nine starts. The Astros got to him for three on Wednesday, starting with three hits and a groundout to bring a run across in the third inning. A walk and two hits brought another run in to score in the fourth. After a scoreless fifth, Crochet allowed one more run in on a double and a base hit in the sixth. He still generated 19 whiffs to strike out eight batters. The 24-year-old left-hander will take a 3.25 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and a 124/20 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings into a start against the Dodgers in Chicago on Monday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:41 pm
