    • Idle Thursday
Rutschman isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Rutschman will get a day to regroup Thursday after being held hitless in 13 at-bats over his last four games. James McCann will instead get the nod to start at catcher while batting ninth. Rotowire.com 43 minutes ago
    • Working out at 90 percent intensity
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Schwarber (groin) is going through drills at 90 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Meanwhile, Thomson pegged Bryce Harper (hamstring) and J.T. Realmuto (knee) at 70-to-75 percent as they go through drills. While it's possible all three players make it back prior to the All-Star break, Schwarber would appear to have the best shot to do so. He's coming back from a left groin strain. • Jared Jones (lat) lands on 15-day IL
Pirates placed RHP Jared Jones on the 15-day injured list with a strained lat.

Advice: Jones was removed from Wednesday night’s game after 78 pitches with a strained lat. The team didn’t express much concern over the injury, but Jones found himself on the injured list anyway on Thursday morning. With the Pirates already planning to limit Jones’ innings in his rookie season, this would seem to be an easy way to pause Jones’ innings count for a little bit and bring him back after the All-Star break without having the massage his innings as much. • Heads to IL with strained lat
The Pirates placed Jones on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a strained right lat, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: The injury caused Jones to be removed early from Wednesday's start against the Cardinals. It does not appear to be a significant strain, but the Pirates undoubtedly will exercise caution with the talented young right-hander. Luis Ortiz would seem to be a good bet to slide into the Pirates' rotation in Jones' place. Rotowire.com Today, 7:39 am

    • Homers again in win
Rooker went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Angels.

Advice: Rooker singled in his second at-bat before adding a leadoff homer in the bottom of the sixth to extend Oakland's lead to four runs. The outfielder went on to reach three times in the contest, posting multiple hits for the third time in his last six games. Rooker has also homered in two straight and in four of his last seven games overall. Over that latter stretch he's batting .370 (10-for-27) with five RBI and four runs scored. • Shaky in season debut
Williams (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up five runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings Wednesday as the Guardians fell 8-2 to the White Sox. He struck out two.

Advice: Making his 2024 debut after recovering from an elbow injury he suffered during spring training, Williams faded quickly and served up back-to-back doubles to Lenyn Sosa and Nicky Lopez in the fourth inning to kick off a four-run frame for Chicago. The right-hander got lifted after 74 pitches (46 strikes), but some rust isn't surprising and Cleveland will give him time to find a rhythm on the mound. Williams is scheduled to make his next start on the road early next week in Detroit. Rotowire.com Today, 5:44 am
    • Loving Dodger Stadium
Walker went 4-for-5 with a walk, a double, two home runs, four RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 12-4 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Walker, who homered in the first game of the series Tuesday, gave Arizona the lead with a two-run homer in the fourth inning then finished off the Dodgers with a two-run shot in the ninth. The first baseman has five home runs in Dodger Stadium this season and 17 in 41 career games at Chavez Ravine. Walker leads he Diamondbacks with 20 homers and 59 RBI. Rotowire.com Today, 4:36 am
    • Christian Walker homers twice in win over Dodgers
Christian Walker went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBI in a 12-4 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Advice: After drawing a walk in the first inning, Walker knocked a base hit in the third for his second hit. He followed with a solo homer in the fourth, his second in as many days against the Dodgers. Walker added a double in the sixth and scored on a home run by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. before blasting his second homer of the game with a three-run shot in the ninth. The 33-year-old slugger is hitting .267/.339/.506 with 20 homers and 59 RBI across 369 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:40 pm
    • Collects 13th save
Alvarado allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: This was Alvarado's first save since June 11, as Jeff Hoffman and Seranthony Dominguez had poached the last three saves. Alvarado remains the Phillies' top closer with 13 saves on the year, with Hoffman (seven), Gregory Soto (two) and Dominguez (one) rounding out the high-leverage group. Over 35 innings this season, Alvarado has maintained a strong 3.09 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 38:12 K:BB. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:26 pm
