    • Shaky but records save
      Foley allowed two runs on four hits but managed to secure the save in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds.

      Advice: Foley started the ninth inning with a 5-2 lead but was generally ineffective as he allowed Cincinnati back into the game before eventually escaping. Despite the blip, the righty has been mostly reliable this year, compiling a 3.26 ERA across 30.1 innings and recording 14 saves in 16 chances. Foley isn't the most exciting option, but as long as he remains the closer in Detroit, he'll maintain fantasy value. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:45 am
       
    • Nestor Cortes strikes out eight against Red Sox
      Nestor Cortes held the Red Sox to one run in six innings and struck out eight in the Yankees’ 3-1 victory Friday.

      Advice: Cortes gave up 410-, 397- and 386-foot flyballs, but Yankee Stadium managed to hold two of them, with only Romy Gonzalez leaving the yard. Cortes remained stuck at 4-7 while improving his now 3.41 ERA and 105/20 K/BB ratio through 111 innings. He’ll get the Rays next time out. Rotoworld Friday, 10:58 pm
       
    • Paul Sewald blows save, doesn’t get out vs. Padres
      Paul Sewald didn’t record an out while allowing three runs and blowing a save against the Padres on Friday.

      Advice: Sewald is going through it as of late. After blowing a save Tuesday against the Dodgers, the right-hander was even worse Friday night while picking up his second blown save and second loss. He allowed a game-tying homer to Jurickson Profar, walked Jake Cronenworth, and gave up a two-run blast to Manny Machado. Sewald has gone through spurts like this before, but fantasy managers — outside of those have the luxury to put him on the bench until they see better results — should stick with Sewald.     • Takes second straight loss
      Sewald (0-2) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk while failing to record an out, taking a blown save and the loss versus the Padres on Friday.

      Advice: After a sterling start to the year, Sewald has fallen flat to begin July. He's allowed five runs over two appearances this month, resulting in a blown save and a loss in both instances. He's now at a 3.12 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB over 17.1 innings while converting 11 of his 13 save chances on the year. The Diamondbacks are already lagging behind in the wild-card race, and Sewald's newfound struggles won't help them make up ground.       Nestor Cortes allowed just one run in six innings against the Red Sox on Friday. He struck out eight and walked one in a no-decision.

      Advice: Cortes carved the Red Sox up in this one. His fastball and sweeper each induced six swings-and-misses as those two pitches along with his cutter rendered the Sox’s bats powerless.     • Jason Foley miraculously escapes with save Friday
      Jason Foley surrendered a pair of runs in the ninth inning on Friday night, but managed to miraculously escape with a one-run lead intact against the Reds to earn his 14th save of the season.

      Advice: Foley came on with a three-run lead to protect in the ninth inning, but immediately made things interesting by allowing an infield single to Elly De La Cruz — who then stole second and took third on a balk. Spencer Steer smacked a one-out RBI single to make it a bit closer and Nick Martini followed with an RBI triple that put the tying run at third base with only one out. Tyler Stephenson then hit a ground ball to third, where Blake Dunn was cut down at the plate attempting to score. Foley then allowed a single to Noelvi Marte before finally getting Santiago Espinal to ground out to first to end it. Foley now sports a 3.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 24/9 K/BB ratio over 30 1/3 innings on the season to go with 14 saves and a pair of victories. Rotoworld Friday, 7:46 pm
       
    • Allows seven runs in loss
      Severino (5-3) took the loss against the Pirates on Friday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings.

      Advice: Severino surrendered four runs on three homers between the fourth and fifth innings. He was pulled after loading the bases to open the seventh, and all three of those runners scored on a grand slam after his departure. Severino yielded nine hard-hit balls Friday and has allowed six long balls and 17 earned runs over his past four outings. On the season, the 30-year-old owns a 3.83 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 77:34 K:BB over 103.1 innings. He lines up for a home matchup with the Nationals next week. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:03 pm
       
    • Luis Severino lit up for seven runs by Pirates
      Luis Severino allowed nine hits and seven earned runs in six-plus innings on Friday against the Pirates. He struck out three and walked two in a loss.

      Advice: This start from Severino got bad quickly. The Pirates smacked three home runs between the fourth and fifth innings and then he loaded the bases in the sixth before being pulled. Jake Diekman promptly gave up a grand slam to Bryan Reynolds and the rout was on. Still, Severino was not great. He continues to rely heavily on his fastballs, he threw his sinker 54% of the time and four-seam fastball 18% as his two most thrown pitches, and play this pitch-to-contact game.     • Bryan Woo (hamstring) to make rehab start Saturday
      Bryan Woo (hamsting) will make a minor league rehab start at High-A Everett on Saturday.

      Advice: The Mariners are hopeful that he’ll be able to throw around 45-50 pitches in the ballgame. Woo also participated in pitcher’s fielding practice without issue on Friday. He won’t be ready to rejoin the Mariners’ rotation next week, but it sounds like he could be ready to go immediately following the All-Star break. Rotoworld Friday, 3:49 pm
