  • Dodgers send Culberson outright to Triple-A
Dodgers sent INF Charlie Culberson outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The move removes the veteran infielder from the club's 40-man roster. As he just signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers worth $550,000, there's a decent chance he'll accept the assignment rather than sacrificing the guaranteed money and looking for a better opportunity elsewhere. • Danny Espinosa to play for Mexico in WBC
Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said that Danny Espinosa will play for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic.

Advice: Whether Espinosa is actually with the Nationals come the spring is another question entirely. Rizzo floated in early November that the 29-year-old shortstop is a potential trade candidate. While there hasn't been a ton of smoke on the actual trading front as of yet, a move here remains possible. In 516 at-bats last season, Espinosa hit just .209/.306/.378. He did clock a career-best 24 homers in that space, so it wasn't all awful. Wednesday, 1:24 pm

  • Snitker: Swanson could hit second in 2017
Braves manager Brian Snitker said Wednesday that he thinks Dansby Swanson could handle hitting second in 2017.

Advice: Swanson mostly batted eighth as a rookie in 2016 while batting .302/.361/.442 over 145 plate appearances. They wanted to ease him into things, but Snitker thinks he's ready for the challenge. "(Hitting him second) is something I will talk to the guys about and we will get a feel for it in spring training and see where we’re at," said Snitker. "I feel right now — ask me today, yeah, I feel very comfortable about him there." Batting behind Ender Inciarte and in front of Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp opens the door for some useful fantasy value. Wednesday, 9:22 am

  • Yankees interested in Ruben Tejada
George A. King III of the New York Post reports that the Yankees have interest in free agent infielder Ruben Tejada on a minor league deal.

Advice: Tejada, 27, appeared in 36 games in the majors last season between the Cardinals and Giants while batting just .167/.247/.242 in 78 plate appearances. He was outrighted off the Giants' 40-man roster in early August and finished the season in the minors. The former Met would be organizational depth at the very least. Wednesday, 5:55 am

  • Padres interested in Rangers' Alberto
According to T.R. Sullivan of, the Padres have expressed interest in Rangers infielder Hanser Alberto.

Advice: Sullivan also notes that the Rangers like Padres outfielder Travis Jankowski, so there could be some movement here. Alberto owns a brutal .194/.204/.226 career batting line at the major league level, but the 24-year-old is capable of playing good defense all around the infield and his contract runs through 2021. • Report: Nats, Angels interested in INF Drew
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Nationals and Angels are among the teams looking at free agent infielder Stephen Drew.

Advice: Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reported last week that the Angels have had preliminary talks with Drew. The Nationals remain interested in bringing him back, but he could have a more prominent role with the Angels. Drew turns 34 years old next March and batted .266 with eight homers and an .864 OPS over 165 plate appearances this past season. Tuesday, 5:44 am

  • Amed Rosario to play several positions in '17
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday that shortstop prospect Amed Rosario will play multiple positions in 2017.

Advice: Rosario has played shortstop exclusively in the minors aside from one game at third base in 2014. He's one of the top shortstop prospects in the game and could take over as the Mets' starter there as soon as 2018, but his best chance to contribute with the big club in 2017 is to increase his versatility. Alderson noted that third base in particular is where Rosario could see time, and that could be an area of need for the Mets if David Wright's back doesn't hold up. Monday, 4:50 pm

  • ChiSox ask Astros for Bregman in Sale talks
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the White Sox asked the Astros for Alex Bregman in trade talks for Chris Sale but were rebuffed.

Advice: This comes as no surprise, as the White Sox' first ask in Sale discussions is surely going to be the other team's best prospect. What's unclear is whether the two sides might be able to make something work without Bregman involved. The Astros are viewed as one of the most aggressive suitors of Sale. Monday, 4:35 pm

  • Padres have interest in SS Erick Aybar's AJ Cassavell reports that the Padres have had preliminary talks with Erick Aybar's agent.

Advice: The Padres liked what they saw out of Luis Sardinas late last season and could give him a shot at the shortstop job, but they're also shopping for alternatives. Aybar, who turns 33 next month, hit just .243/.303/.320 last season for the Braves and Tigers. Monday, 3:13 pm

  • Jimmy Rollins planning to play in 2017
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Jimmy Rollins wants to play in 2017.

Advice: Rollins never caught on anywhere else after the White Sox released him last June following a .221/.295/.329 batting line over 41 games. He's now 38 and will have to settle for a minor league contract just as he did last February. Rollins is a poor bet to find a job where he can earn significant playing time at this point. • Jose Reyes will be tried in OF this spring
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed Monday that Jose Reyes will be tried in the outfield during spring training.

Advice: The idea first popped up in early November, and it sounds like the Mets fully plan to go through with it. Reyes hasn't played any outfield since rookie ball in 2000 -- when he was 17 years old -- but he probably still has enough athleticism in that 33-year-old body to pull it off. It would obviously give the Mets a little more flexibility. Monday, 12:48 pm

  • Kang's DUI in Korea was his third since '09
Police officials in Seoul, South Korea confirmed to YonHap News that Jung Ho Kang's recent DUI arrest was his third since 2009.

Advice: Which means he will be charged under the capital city's "three strikes law" and have his license revoked. Kang also fled the scene after this latest incident and tried to claim a friend was driving, but authorities analyzed the black box inside the vehicle and determined that to be a lie. Kang is obviously in very serious trouble, both in his native country and with the Pirates. Club president Frank Coonelly released a stern message last Thursday condemning the player's actions. • Dansby Swanson 'untouchable' in Sale talks
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Braves have "made clear" that Dansby Swanson is "untouchable" in trade talks for Chris Sale.

Advice: It's no surprise, of course, as Swanson is one of the most highly thought of young players in the game and he's slated to open 2017 as the Braves' starting shortstop. Atlanta probably still has enough talent to acquire Sale even without including Swanson, with Ozzie Albies seeming likely to headline a package. The Braves and Nationals look like the two most aggressive teams for Sale, with the Astros, Rangers, Red Sox and Dodgers also in the mix. Sunday, 8:28 am

  • Angels non-tender Gregorio Petit on Friday
    Angels non-tendered INF Gregorio Petit.

Advice: The 31-year-old infielder is now a free agent and will look for work elsewhere. He hit just .245/.299/.348 with two homers and 17 RBI in 223 plate appearances with the Angels in 2016. Saturday, 7:09 am

  • Padres non-tender Alexi Amarista on Friday
    Padres non-tendered INF Alexi Amarista.

Advice: The 27-year-old had a mediocre season in a utility role for the Padres in 2016, hitting .257/.295/.271 with no homers, 11 RBI and nine stolen bases in 150 plate appearances. He'll look for another opportunity in free agency but is likely to be irrelevant in most fantasy formats regardless of where he lands. Friday, 5:53 pm

  • Pirates release statement on Jung Ho Kang
Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a statement Thursday evening that the team is "extremely disappointed" in Jung Ho Kang and "in his decision process" after he was charged with fleeing the scene of a DUI accident in South Korea.

Advice: "We have been made aware of the very serious charges filed against Jung Ho Kang early Friday morning in Seoul, South Korea," Coonelly said in the statement from the team. "We are extremely disappointed in Jung Ho and in his decision process during this matter. I know first hand how foolish and dangerous it is to drive under the influence and am most thankful that, as we understand it, no one was injured. We will have further comment once we have been able to gather all of the relevant facts and speak with the player." According to the Yonhap News Agency, Kang reportedly fled the scene after hitting a guard rail on the way back to his hotel. A person who was also in the vehicle originally said that they were driving, but police later determined that Kang was behind the wheel after analyzing the vehicle's black box. Kang was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.084, above the legal limit of 0.05. More information should be available in the coming days. Thursday, 6:25 pm

  • Report: Kang facing charge after DUI accident
According to Jeeho Yoo of Yonhap News, Jung Ho Kang was arrested in Seoul, South Korea after leaving the scene of a DUI accident.

Advice: Details are scarce at this point, but Kang reportedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.084, above the legal limit of 0.05 and subject to license suspension. And he only exacerbated his issues by fleeing the scene. Of course, Kang has already had some off-field issues earlier this year after being investigated for an alleged sexual assault in Chicago. The Chicago PD has been unable to contact the alleged victim and no charges have been filed in that case, but now he's dealing with another legal issue. Thursday, 4:00 pm

  • Angels have had talks with Stephen Drew
According to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, the Angels have had preliminary talks with free agent infielder Stephen Drew.

Advice: Fletcher notes, however, that Drew is "one of many candidates" the Angels are considering to boost their infield depth. Drew hit well for the Nationals this summer over 165 plate appearances (.864 OPS), but it has been years since he's been a reliable player in an everyday role. Drew will turn 34 years old next March.
