• On track to return next week
Diaz (shoulder) said after his rehab appearance with High-A Brooklyn on Thursday that he will get one more rehab outing Sunday before being activated from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday or Thursday, SNY reports.

Advice: Diaz allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning for Brooklyn in his first rehab appearance. The reliever was pleased with his performance, saying after the game that his fastball had "new life" and his slider felt "great." Diaz is on track to return to the Mets' bullpen next week, although it's not clear whether he will serve as the team's closer right away. Rotowire.com 55 minutes ago

  • Return could be delayed
Alvarez (thumb) has flown back to his native Venezuela to tend to a family matter, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Alvarez had been set for activation June 11 upon the Mets' return home from London, but he might now be back a day or two later. The young catcher has been sidelined since April 20 with a fractured left thumb and has played five rehab games, going 3-for-14 with one home run. Rotowire.com Today, 6:14 am

  • Alvarez’ return from IL to be delayed
Francisco Alvarez’ (thumb) return from the injury list is likely to be delayed for a non-injury reason, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.

  • Records save Thursday
Holmes earned a save against the Twins on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in one scoreless inning.

Advice: Holmes gave up a one-out single after entering the game in the ninth frame, but that's all Minnesota managed against him. The talented closer has held the opponent without an earned run in 27 of his 28 appearances this season, resulting in an excellent 1.32 ERA. Holmes ranks third in the majors with 18 saves (in 21 chances) on the campaign. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:08 pm

  • Holmes picks up 18th save against Twins
Clay Holmes tossed a scoreless inning and picked up the save against the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: The save was Holmes’ 18th of the season. He has allowed an earned run in only one of 28 appearances this year. Holmes has been fabulous with a 1.32 ERA and 28 strikeouts on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:24 pm

  • Edwin Díaz strikes out two in rehab appearance
Edwin Díaz (shoulder) struck out two in a scoreless inning on Thursday in a minor league rehab appearance for High-A Brooklyn.

Advice: Díaz threw 14 pitches (11 strikes) and was reportedly touching 98 mph on his heater in his first rehab outing as he works his way back from a right shoulder impingement that sent him to the injured list back in late May. The 30-year-old righty figures to take over as New York’s primary closing option once he returns, despite his struggles this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:32 pm

  • Absent from lineup
Langeliers isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Langeliers has received more days off than usual of late, as he's now started just three of the last six games for the Athletics. He doesn't appear to be dealing with any sort of injury, however. Kyle McCann will get the start at catcher for Oakland on Thursday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:58 am

  • Set to catch on consecutive days
Alvarez (thumb) will be behind the plate for Triple-A Syracuse on both Friday and Saturday before serving as the designated hitter Sunday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The young catcher is on track to return from a fractured left thumb early next week when the Mets return from London, but the organization will put him through his paces this weekend to make sure he's ready. Alvarez caught a combined no-hitter with High-A Brooklyn on Tuesday, and he's drawn praise from coaches for the work he's put in during his rehab assignment. While his thumb will remain in a splint for a while yet, he should immediately slot back in as New York's starting catcher when he returns, although his backup -- whether that's Tomas Nido or Luis Torrens -- could still see a bigger workload in the short term as Alvarez gets eased back into action. • Tyler Freeman gets a day off on Thursday
Tyler Freeman is not in the Guardians’ lineup on Thursday against the Royals.

Advice: It’s just a routine day off for the 25-year-old who continues to start regularly in center field for the Guardians. Freeman has moved back down in the lineup with both Stevan Kwan and Andres Gimenez back, which will hurt his counting stats, but he does have five home runs and eight steals on the year, so he remains valuable in deeper formats.
