• Shut down for at least one month
Schmidt (lat) will be shut down for 4-to-6 weeks, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Schmidt landed on the injured list Thursday, and he'll be in line for a lengthy absence. He'll be sidelined until the All-Star break, leaving the Yankees shorthanded in the rotation until Gerrit Cole (elbow) can return. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:48 pm

  • Hangs on for ninth save
Duran picked up the save Thursday against the Royals, allowing two unearned runs on a hit and a walk in the ninth inning.

Advice: Protecting a three-run lead in the ninth inning, Duran would allow a pair of runs on Bobby Witt's two-out single following a walk and a Carlos Santana error. However, Duran would coax a game-ending groundout from Vinnie Pasquantino, earning his ninth save in as many chances to open the year. While he's been a bit shaky of late, Duran's now gone five appearances (4.1 innings) without allowing an earned run. His ERA is down to 3.21 with a 1.21 WHIP despite him averaging just 8.36 K/9, down from his career mark of 11.63. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:15 pm

  • Anthony Volpe aims to extend hitting streak to 22
Anthony Volpe will carry a 21-game hitting streak into Thursday’s series finale against the Angels.

Advice: Volpe can surpass Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte for the longest hitting streak in the majors this season with another knock during Thursday’s series finale in Los Angeles. The 23-year-old shortstop’s offseason overhaul to his swing and offensive approach have resulted in a robust .288 batting average to go along with six homers and 11 stolen bases. He’s recorded at least one hit in 21 straight contests since May 7. He’s a long way from Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game streak, but it’s an interesting wrinkle for fantasy managers to continue monitoring. • Placed on injured list
The Yankees placed Schmidt on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right lat strain.

Advice: Schmidt gave up two runs (one earned) in five innings during Sunday's loss to the Padres, and he appears to have injured his lat in the process. His move to the IL is backdated to Monday, so the 28-year-old right-hander will be able to return beginning June 11. In the meantime, Cody Morris will come up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill the opening on New York's roster. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:15 pm

  • Clarke Schmidt lands on IL with right lat strain
Yankees placed RHP Clarke Schmidt on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 27, with a right lat strain.

Advice: Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Schmidt will be shut down from throwing for the next 4-6 weeks, which likely knocks him out until sometime after the All-Star break. Schmidt was slated to take the ball on Saturday against the Giants, so New York will have to dip into their organizational depth to fill the void. The 28-year-old righty will press pause on an impressive breakthrough campaign as he’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his 11 starts this season, recording a stellar 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67/20 K/BB ratio across 60 2/3 innings of work. It’s a significant loss for the Yankees, and fantasy managers as well. There should be a clearer timetable for his return once he’s cleared to resume throwing in a few weeks. • Duran picks up ninth save Thursday
Jhoan Duran allowed two runs (none earned) and picked up the save against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: The save was Duran’s ninth of the year. A missed catch error on first baseman Carlos Santana made the two runs that scored on Bobby Witt Jr.’s single unearned. With nine saves already, Duran remains perfect in save opportunities this year. He has rewarded patient fantasy managers that drafted the closer who was injured to begin the season.

  • Produces team's lone run Wednesday
Kim went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to Miami on Wednesday.

Advice: Kim's third-inning solo shot was the only run San Diego managed against Braxton Garrett and four Marlins relievers. The long ball was Kim's seventh through 231 plate appearances this season, putting him on pace to surpass last year's career-best total of 17 homers. The shortstop has added 13 stolen bases but has otherwise struggled with a .214/.326/.367 slash line. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:47 am

  • Braves place A.J. Minter on IL
Braves placed LHP A.J. Minter on the 15-day IL with left hip inflammation.

Advice: Minter struggled at the beginning of the month but is coming off five straight scoreless appearances to lower his season-long ERA to 2.95. There is no indication yet how long Minter will be sidelined, but the Braves will likely turn to Aaron Bummer as their main lefty out of the bullpen in the meantime. Righty Jimmy Herget was called up in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:38 am

  • Out with hip injury
Atlanta placed Minter on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left hip inflammation.

Advice: Minter tossed a scoreless inning in Wednesday's win over the Nationals but evidently must have injured his hip during the appearance. The left-hander will be eligible to return from the IL on June 14, although it's not yet clear whether he will be ready for activation at that time. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:25 am
