  • Christian Vazquez hits first homer
Christian Vazquez hit his first homer, walked twice and stole a base Tuesday versus the Twins.

Advice: Vazquez is out-OPSing Sandy Leon .740 to .700 at the moment, and given his strong defense, he really should be getting more playing time. As is, he still has nine fewer plate appearances than Leon. Yesterday, 9:48 pm
  • Travis d'Arnaud goes deep in loss to Marlins
Travis d'Arnaud homered and drove in a pair of runs on Tuesday as the Mets fell to the Marlins.

Advice: The hard-hitting backstop drove in a run with an RBI single in the fourth inning, then clubbed a solo homer that tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh. He finished the night 2-for-4 and is now hitting .226/.288/.466 with nine homers and 26 RBI. Yesterday, 9:05 pm
  • Salvador Perez plates two in loss to Tigers
Salvador Perez went 1-for-4 and drove home a pair of runs on Tuesday as the Royals fell to the Tigers in Motown.

Advice: The Royals jumped on Justin Verlander right out of the game, with the first five hitters reaching base safely, including a two-run single from Perez that gave the Royals a 3-0 lead. That would end up being the extent of their offense however. Perez continues to perform as one of the top hitting catchers in the league, slashing .289/.320/.523 with 15 homers and 45 RBI. Yesterday, 8:18 pm
  • Oscar Hernandez outrighted to Double-A
Diamondbacks sent C Oscar Hernandez outright to Double-A Jackson.

Advice: He's now off the 40-man roster. Hernandez has hit .197/.263/.352 for Jackson this season. Yesterday, 2:58 pm

  • Rays release C Derek Norris
    Rays released C Derek Norris.

Advice: Norris was designated for assignment last week with Wilson Ramos on the verge of being activated. The 28-year-old was batting just .201/.258/.380 with nine homers through 53 games, but he shouldn't be out of work for long. Yesterday, 12:12 pm

  • Lucroy not in Tuesday's lineup
Jonathan Lucroy is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Indians.

Advice: He'll take a seat against right-hander Mike Clevinger. Robinson Chirinos will start behind the plate and catch Tyson Ross. Yesterday, 11:41 am
  • Pirates option C Stallings to Triple-A
Pirates optioned C Jacob Stallings to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Stallings was called up last week to provide some extra depth behind the plate. He's 2-for-7 with a double and two runs scored at the major league level this season. Yesterday, 7:05 am

  • Schwarber plays first game since demotion
Kyle Schwarber went 1-for-4 with a single and three strikeouts Monday in his first game since his demotion to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Schwarber struck out in his first three at-bats before hitting a line-drive single off the wall in the eighth inning. The 24-year-old slugger batted just .171/.295/.378 through 64 games prior to his demotion last week. Cubs manager Joe Maddon doesn't expect him to stay down in the minors for long, but there's no clear timetable for his return. In addition to giving him a mental break, the Cubs want to work on his swing mechanics. Yesterday, 6:03 am

  • Buster Posey hits RBI double in win over COL
Buster Posey went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and three total RBI in Monday's win over the Rockies.

Advice: Posey rocked a deep RBI double off German Marquez in the first inning, came through with a sacrifice fly in the third and put a cap on his fine evening with an RBI single in the ninth. The All-Star backstop is slashing a blistering .347/.424/.536 with 10 homers and 33 RBI in 239 at-bats this season. If the Giants were anywhere close to contention -- sitting at 28-51 in an ultra-competitive NL West, they have a giant fork sticking out of their back right now -- Posey would probably be drawing some level of early MVP talk. Monday, 10:37 pm
  • Martin Maldonado tacks on solo homer late
Martin Maldonado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Maldonado uncoiled for a solo home run off Sergio Romo with one out in the ninth inning to give the Angels a 4-0 lead and offer a little bit of insurance against a Dodgers lineup that had been swinging molten hot bats entering action on Monday. The home run was Maldonado's eighth of the season and bumped his RBI total to 24. He is hitting .261/.328/.431 in 211 at-bats. Monday, 10:15 pm
  • Willson Contreras homers in Cubs' win
Willson Contreras went 2-for-4 with a homer and a sac bunt Monday as the Cubs edged the Nationals 5-4.

Advice: The Cubs were up 1-0 after seven -- courtesy of Contreras's leadoff homer in the first -- and 2-0 after eight before the offenses finally broke out in the ninth. Contreras was making his first ever start in the leadoff spot. It's probably not something he'll have the chance to get used to, but he's a nice DFS option whenever he's penciled in up there. Monday, 8:54 pm
  • Chris Herrmann homers, walks twice
Chris Herrmann had a leadoff homer and two walks Monday against the Phillies.

Advice: One of the walks came with the bases loaded. It was Herrmann's first start in the leadoff spot, and it couldn't have gone much better. He entered the day with just a .182 average, though he had walked 15 times in 125 plate appearances. He's going to remain a part-timer, of course. Monday, 7:53 pm
  • Contreras hitting leadoff for Cubs on Monday
Willson Contreras will hit leadoff Monday against the Nationals.

Advice: Cubs manager Joe Maddon is trying something different with left-hander Gio Gonzalez on the hill for Washington. To his credit, Contreras has been much better against southpaws than against right-handers this season. Anthony Rizzo has been hitting leadoff recently, but he'll slide down to the No. 2 spot on Monday.Daily Slant: Joe Maddon's lineup shuffle bodes well for Contreras and Javier Baez, both of whom find themselves in prime spots at very reasonable price tags across the industry. Tonight's slate features a bevy of high-end SPs despite just six games on the docket, so taking the value with Contreras and Baez makes sense in any format. Contreras has his best hard hit rate during the month of June (36.2%) and also owns his lowest ground-ball rate of the season over that span. Baez has flashed his typical power against LHP, sporting a .283 ISO against southpaws to this point. Monday, 12:41 pm
  • Yadier Molina delivers go-ahead hit in win
Yadier Molina went 3-for-4 and delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning on Sunday as the Cardinals rallied to beat the Pirates 8-4.

Advice: Molina also scored three runs in the ballgame. His RBI single in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and put the Cardinals ahead to stay. The veteran backstop is enjoying another solid season at the dish, hitting .268/.300/.426 with nine long balls and 29 RBI. Sunday, 8:50 pm
  • Jason Castro plates three runs Sunday
Jason Castro drove in three of Minnesota’s four runs Sunday in a win over the Indians.

Advice: Castro plated Eddie Rosario and Eduardo Escobar on a second-inning double before adding to his tally with another RBI double in the sixth. That was all the offense the Twins needed in a 4-0 victory. Despite Sunday’s explosion, Castro is still hitting a weak .222 over 180 at-bats this year. Sunday, 5:04 pm
  • Rene Rivera socks pair of homers in victory
Rene Rivera went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three total RBI in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Giants.

Advice: With the Mets already up 1-0, Rivera bumped the lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer off Matt Moore in the second inning. He would add a solo shot in the fourth. The light-hitting backup catcher is slashing .268/.305/.423 with five homers and 19 RBI in 123 at-bats this season. Sunday, 5:01 pm
  • Miguel Montero reaches three times Sunday
Miguel Montero reached base three times Sunday in the Cubs’ 4-2 loss to Miami.

Advice: He was the only Cub with more than one hit, singling twice while also drawing a walk. Montero has played sparingly but has made the most of his opportunities this year, slashing .292/.373/.448 over 96 at-bats. Sunday, 4:25 pm
  • Gary Sanchez homers in loss to Rangers
Gary Sanchez belted his 13th homer Sunday as the Yankees fell 7-6 in their series finale against Texas.

Advice: He took Nick Martinez deep for a three-run homer with two outs in the fifth inning. That was his only hit of the afternoon. Sanchez has been as good as advertised, slashing an impressive .298/.382/.560 over 168 at-bats this year. He ranks second among big league catchers in home runs behind only Kansas City’s Salvador Perez, and that was with Sanchez missing most of April with a strained biceps. Sunday, 3:07 pm
  • Brewers option Jett Bandy to Triple-A
Brewers optioned C Jett Bandy to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Advice: With Sunday's addition of Stephen Vogt, there's no room for the Brewers to carry three catchers and Bandy has been outplayed by Manny Pina. Bandy hit just .211/.287/.380 with six homers, 18 RBI and a 41/12 K/BB ratio in 157 plate appearances with the Brewers. Sunday, 2:10 pm

  • Brewers claim C Stephen Vogt off waivers
Brewers claimed C Stephen Vogt off waivers from the Athletics.

Advice: Vogt, 32, has batted just .217/.287/.357 this season and hit only .222/.287/.365 in the second half last season. However, he was an All-Star in 2015 and 2016 and is under team control through 2020. With Jett Bandy in a lengthy slump (.151/.240/.247 since May 1), the Brewers felt Vogt was worth a shot. He figures to share catching duties with Manny Pina but looks like a capable second catcher in fantasy leagues now with Miller Park as his new home. Sunday, 10:31 am
  • Alex Avila posts two more hits on Saturday
Alex Avila picked up a single and a double across four at-bats in Saturday's loss in San Diego.

Advice: Avila accounted for two of the team's six hits in the road loss. He has four multi-hit games over his past nine outings to raise his average from .310 to .320 just since June 15. He should continue to see a regular role either at catcher, first base or as the designated hitter with Victor Martinez (heart) on the mend. Sunday, 12:29 am

  • Yasmani Grandal has another multi-hit game
Yasmani Grandal finished with a single, double and a run scored across four at-bats in Saturday's win against the Rockies.

Advice: Grandal has hit safely in each of his past five games, and he has three consecutive multi-hit efforts. He is a career .242 hitter, so his .272 mark overall on the season is the biggest surprise of all of his offensive stats to date. Sunday, 12:06 am
  • Chris Herrmann drives in three Saturday
Chris Herrmann finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI in Saturday's win against the Phillies.

Advice: Herrmann has picked up the pace, going 7-for-23 (.304) with a pair of doubles, a home run and six RBI over the past eight outings. He has raised his average from .151 to .183 just since June 9, but he still has a lot of work to do at the plate before he is viability outside of the deepest of NL fantasy formats. Saturday, 11:23 pm
  • Brian McCann posts three RBI in victory
Brian McCann finished 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: McCann continues to be a consistent run producer, posting 13 RBI in April 12 RBI in May and 15 so far in the month of June. He has a .268/.351/.475 slash line, as he continues to be a solid fantasy contributor even in his 12th MLB season. Saturday, 10:40 pm
  • Castillo hits two-run homer in win over Rays
Welington Castillo hit a two-run home run, his eighth of the year, in Saturday's win over the Rays.

Advice: Castillo took Rays rookie Jacob Faria deep for the two-run shot in the second inning. He's well on his way to his fourth consecutive season with double-digit homers, and he's now got four homers since returning from the disabled list on June 10. The 30-year-old backstop is hitting a healthy .284/.316/.462 in 43 games this year. Saturday, 4:29 pm
  • Realmuto punches three-run bomb vs Cubs
J.T. Realmuto whacked a three-run homer in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday.

Advice: The first-inning blast off starter Jon Lester gave his club an early lead but they were unable to dent the plate again the rest of the day. It was Realmuto's only hit in three chances on the day. He has been one of the better fantasy catchers again this year. He has a .289 batting average with seven home runs, 30 runs and 30 RBI along with three stolen bases in 63 games. Saturday, 4:21 pm
  • Bruce Maxwell stays hot in win over White Sox
Bruce Maxwell paced the Athletics with three hits Saturday in their 10-2 win over the White Sox.

Advice: All of his hits were singles. It was another big afternoon for Maxwell, who has gone 7-for-12 since his call-up earlier this week. The A’s have begun their youth movement and it looks like Maxwell is going to be a big part of it. With Stephen Vogt gone, Maxwell has emerged as Oakland’s No. 1 catcher. Saturday, 4:17 pm
  • Yadier Molina absent from Saturday's lineup
Yadier Molina (knee) is not in the Cardinals' lineup Saturday against the Pirates.

Advice: Molina was listed in the Cardinals' original starting nine but was scratched about an hour later. He's still dealing with knee soreness stemming from a foul ball that struck him behind the plate Thursday against the Phillies. Eric Fryer will handle the catching duties while batting eighth Saturday against Pirates hurler Gerrit Cole. Saturday, 1:52 pm
  • Gary Sanchez get a day off on Saturday
Gary Sanchez is absent from the Yankees' starting lineup for Saturday afternoon's game against the Rangers.

Advice: It's nothing more than a regular day of rest for the hard-hitting backstop. Austin Romine will start in his place behind the dish and bat ninth for the Yankees against Austin Bibens-Dirkx and the Rangers. Saturday, 7:31 am
  • Jonathan Lucroy not in lineup on Saturday
Jonathan Lucroy is not in the Rangers' starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Lucroy will take a seat in favor of Robinson Chirinos with the Rangers playing an afternoon game after a night game. He'll be back in there for Sunday's series finale. Saturday, 7:29 am
  • Perez has two hits against Blue Jays
Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored Friday versus the Blue Jays.

Advice: Perez is probably going to be sad to see June come to an end. He’s now batting .393 (24-for-61) with four homers and 13 RBI this month. He’s easily been the most valuable fantasy catcher so far this season. Friday, 10:02 pm
  • Rays designate Derek Norris for assignment
Rays designated C Derek Norris for assignment.

Advice: It's a tough break for the veteran backstop who went 3-for-3 with a homer run and three runs scored in Friday's lopsided victory, but Wilson Ramos is set to be activated from the disabled list on Saturday. Norris shouldn't be out of work for long as several clubs could use an offensive upgrade behind the plate. Friday, 8:29 pm

  • Derek Norris leads Rays in rout of Orioles
Derek Norris went 3-for-3 with a homer and three runs scored as the Rays clobbered the Orioles 15-5 on Friday.

Advice: Norris belted a two-run shot off of Ubaldo Jimenez in the third inning, increasing the Rays' advantage to 9-2. Even with the monster offensive effort, Norris is still hitting a disappointing .201/.258/.380 with nine homers and 24 RBI on the year. Friday, 7:49 pm

  • Yadier Molina scratched due to sore knee
Yadier Molina was scratched from the Cardinals' lineup Friday due to a sore knee.

  • Willson Contreras sitting out on Friday
Willson Contreras is not in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

Advice: He's just getting a day off. Miguel Montero will do the catching. Friday, 12:01 pm
  • Travis d'Arnaud whacks solo homer against LAD
Travis d'Arnaud went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: D'Arnaud cranked a solo homer off Hyun-Jin Ryu in the fourth inning. He is now working on a little five-game hitting streak. Despite showing a nice bit of pop in the bat this season -- eight homers in 129 at-bats -- d'Arnaud is hitting just .226 overall. Thursday, 10:48 pm
  • Posey cranks three XBH in loss to Braves
Buster Posey was an extra-base hit machine Thursday, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a loss to the Braves.

Advice: Posey has always had a penchant for hitting left-handed pitching and feasted on Braves starter Jaime Garcia in this one, hitting a solo homer in the second and smacking two doubles off the southpaw before Garcia could be relieved. The homer was Posey's 10th of the season, the sixth straight year the backstop has reached double-digits in dingers. Quietly, the 30-year-old is having a remarkable offensive year this season, batting .344/.427/.537 through 63 games. Thursday, 10:37 pm
  • Grandal getting the night off Thursday
Yasmani Grandal is not in the Dodgers' lineup Thursday against the Mets.

Advice: The Dodgers are stacking their lineup with right-handers against Mets lefty Steven Matz. Austin Barnes will start behind the plate and bat seventh. He's catching for left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu. Thursday, 3:28 pm
  • Cubs option Kyle Schwarber to AAA Iowa
Cubs optioned OF Kyle Schwarber to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: David Kaplan of CSN Chicago was first to report the news of the demotion and now the Cubs have made it official. It should be a short stay in the minors for Schwarber, who has struggled to find consistency at the plate this season and been a negative defensively in left field. The 24-year-old is sitting on 12 homers through 64 games, but he has a weak .171/.295/.378 overall batting line. Thursday, 9:03 am

  • Cubs sending Kyle Schwarber to AAA Iowa
David Kaplan of CSN Chicago reports the Cubs are sending Kyle Schwarber to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Kaplan says Schwarber is "not expected to be gone long" and that it's simply an "opportunity to clear his head." The 24-year-old slugger was the toast of the town after returning for last year's World Series, but he has batted just .171/.295/.378 through 64 games this season. The power numbers have been fine, but Schwarber needs to find some consistency and will try to do so against a lower level of competition. Thursday, 8:47 am

  • A's recall Bruce Maxwell from AAA level
Athletics recalled C Bruce Maxwell from Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Stephen Vogt was designated for assignment on Thursday morning and Maxwell is now going to share time behind the plate with Josh Phegley. The 26-year-old catcher is a .270/.333/.369 hitter over the last two seasons at the major league level. Thursday, 8:33 am
  • A's designate C Stephen Vogt for assignment
Athletics designated C Stephen Vogt for assignment.

Advice: Vogt was an American League All-Star in 2015 and 2016, but the 32-year-old catcher had put up a weak .217/.287/.357 batting line in 174 plate appearances this season. Bruce Maxwell has been recalled from Triple-A to serve as Josh Phegley's backup. Thursday, 8:31 am
  • Lucroy out Thursday against Blue Jays
Jonathan Lucroy is out of the Rangers' starting lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays.

  • Grandal slams two homers in win over Mets
Yasmani Grandal unleashed on the Mets, hammering a pair of home runs Wednesday in the Dodgers’ 8-2 victory.

Advice: He took Tyler Pill deep for a solo shot in the sixth and made Neil Ramirez his next victim with another solo blast in the eighth. Grandal has had a monster series, gashing the Mets by going 5-for-9 with three homers over his last two games. Wednesday was Grandal’s first multi-homer game since Opening Day. Wednesday, 11:06 pm
  • Sanchez goes 2-for-4 with two runs scored Wed
Gary Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in an 8-4 victory over the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: He singled and rode home on Didi Gregorius' home run in the second inning, then singled and scored on an Austin Romine double in the sixth as the Yankees broke the game open. He has missed a lot of time due to injury this year, although he has hit quite well when in the lineup. He served as the Yankees' designated hitter today, likely to help him nurse a nagging groin injury. He has a .293 batting average with 12 homers and 34 RBI in 42 games. Wednesday, 8:09 pm
  • Maldonado punches two homers in losing effort
Martin Maldonado belted a pair of home runs and finished the night 3-for-4 with four RBI but it wasn't enough to prevent the Yankees from winning the ballgame on Wednesday.

Advice: He went deep off starter Jordan Montgomery with Andrelton Simmons aboard in the fourth inning, then took reliever Tyler Clippard out of the yard with Simmons again on base in the ninth. The former Brewers backstop is getting the bulk of the action behind the plate in his first season as an Angel. He has a .267 batting average with seven home runs and 21 RBI in 220 plate appearances. Wednesday, 7:50 pm
  • Salvador Perez hits grand slam vs. Red Sox
Salvador Perez went 3-for-3 and hit a grand slam off Robby Scott in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Royals past the Red Sox 6-4 on Wednesday.

Advice: Craig Kimbrel had two days off, but John Farrell wasn't willing to turn to him with no outs in the eighth inning. So, Scott, who relieved Matt Barnes after back-to-back walks, was left in to pitch to Perez after walking Eric Hosmer. It was a bad matchup -- the Red Sox stuck with Scott because lefty Mike Moustakas was on deck -- and Perez capitalized with his 15th homer of this year and first ever grand slam; he had been a .268/.261/.366 hitter in 41 at-bats with the bases loaded. Perez is already two-thirds of the way to a career-high home run total. Wednesday, 3:11 pm
  • Welington Castillo receives day off vs. CLE
Welington Castillo is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Indians.

Advice: Castillo gets the day off after he was hit in his throwing shoulder by a foul tip on Tuesday. Wednesday, 2:01 pm
  • Schwarber (ankle) returns to CHC lineup Wed.
Kyle Schwarber (ankle) is back in the Cubs' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Yasmani Grandal picks up three hits
Yasmani Grandal finished 3-for-5 with a solo home run off of Robert Gsellman of the Mets in the fifth inning on Tuesday.

Advice: The three-hit game was great news to Grandal's nervous fantasy owners, as he entered play with just nine hits over 54 at-bats (.167) with 21 strikeouts across his first 14 games in the month of June. Wednesday, 12:12 am
  • Schwarber (ankle), Heyward (hand) sit out
Kyle Schwarber (ankle) is not in the Cubs' lineup Tuesday.

Advice: Schwarber exited Monday's game after fouling a ball off his right ankle. X-rays came back clean and he should be back in there in a day or two. Jason Heyward (hand) is also sitting out again, as the Cubs have Willson Contreras and Jon Jay at the corner outfield spots. Tuesday, 12:26 pm

  • Willson Contreras homers again as Cubs win

Advice: It's a rare day off for Perez. Drew Butera will do the catching. Monday, 1:24 pm
  • Salvador Perez crushes key three-run homer
Salvador Perez went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run in Sunday's win over the Angels.

Advice: Perez's three-run bomb off J.C. Ramirez in the fourth inning gave the Royals a 7-2 lead and essentially took the drama out of this one. He is up to an 11-game hitting streak, during which time he is 18-for-41, working out to a .439 average in that space. He is slashing a rock-solid .286/.317/.521 with 14 homers and 38 RBI for the season as a whole. Jun 18, 4:36 pm
  • Avila goes 2-for-3 in loss to Rays on Sunday
Alex Avila went 2-for-3 in the Tigers' loss to the Rays on Sunday.

Advice: Avila singled twice and drew a walk, scoring Detroit's only run of the afternoon in the bottom of the first inning. He's batting .326/.443/.609 in 46 games this season and should continue to get everyday playing time between catcher, DH, and first base. He served as the Tigers' designated hitter Sunday with Victor Martinez (heart) on the disabled list. Jun 18, 2:42 pm
