The Dodgers placed Muncy on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a right oblique strain.

Advice: Muncy last played Wednesday against the Giants and was left out of the starting lineup Thursday against the Reds, presumably due to Cincinnati sending out southpaw Brent Suter. It's unclear when Muncy sustained the injury, and the duration of his stint on the injured list has yet to be announced. Before landing on the IL, Muncy was slashing .223/.323/.475 with nine home runs and 28 RBI over 167 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

    • Dodgers place Max Muncy (oblique) on 10-day IL
Dodgers placed INF Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.

Advice: Well that certainly came out of nowhere. The 33-year-old slugger has been a very capable run-producer in the middle of the Dodgers’ lineup this season — slashing .223/.323/.475 with nine homers and 28 RBI through his first 40 games He’s going to miss at least a couple of weeks — and it could wind up being longer depending on the severity of the strain. Miguel Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move on Friday. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

    • Takes live batting practice
Swanson (knee) took live batting practice Friday, Ryan Herrera of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Swanson landed on the 10-day injured list a week ago with a right knee injury. He'll be eligible for activation Saturday, but while it appears he is making progress, it seems unlikely that he will be ready at that time. With Nico Hoerner (hamstring) also banged up, the Cubs' shortstop depth has thinned, and Miles Mastrobuoni has started the last three games. Rotowire.com Today, 8:27 am

    • Hit hard again
Steele (0-1) took the loss against the Pirates on Thursday, surrendering five runs on six hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: The Pirates tagged Steele for two runs in the top of the first on a two-run shot from Edward Olivares and proceeded to tack on runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The lefty produced only one 1-2-3 inning on the night and allowed at least five runs for the second consecutive start. Steele has yet to make it through six innings in a start this year, though he did record a season-high seven strikeouts in Thursday's loss. Rotowire.com Today, 3:43 am

    • Steele rocked again on Thursday
Justin Steele allowed six hits, five earned runs and two home runs in 5 2/3 innings and picked up the loss against the Pirates on Thursday.

Advice: Steele struck out seven batters, but he looked shaky for his second start in a row. His ERA increased to 5.68 in his four starts this season. Steele has 18 strikeouts and a 3.78 xFIP in 19 innings this season. The 28-year-old left-hander isn’t a lost cause, but he’s certainly a tough pitcher to start against the Braves next week.

    • Gavin Williams (elbow) throws 50-pitch bullpen
Gavin Williams (elbow) threw a 50-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: The positive news here is that Williams didn’t experience any discomfort in his first bullpen session since receiving an anti-inflammatory injection earlier this month to address right elbow discomfort. He’s scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Friday before the club determines his next steps. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:18 pm

    • Andy Pages not in Thursday’s lineup vs. Reds
Andy Pages is not in the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Reds.

Advice: Pages will get a night off to reset mentally after going 0-for-9 with six strikeouts over his last two games against the Giants. The 23-year-old rookie has gotten off to a nice start for the Dodgers through 26 games, but is starting to hit his first real rough patch. It’ll be interesting to see how he responds. • Day off Thursday
Pages isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Pages has struck out six times in his last nine at-bats, so the Dodgers will give him a chance to regroup Thursday. Teoscar Hernandez will shift to right field as a result, allowing Chris Taylor to pick up a start in left while batting seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:14 pm

    • Idle against lefty
Muncy isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.

Advice: With left-hander Brent Suter set to open Thursday's game for the Reds, Muncy will retreat to the bench. While he sits, Enrique Hernandez will man the hot corner and bat fifth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:10 pm
