• Starting rehab assignment
Young (back) has been sent to Triple-A Louisville to begin a rehab assignment, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Young has been out all season while recovering from low back disc degeneration, but he's finally ready to test things out in game action. The left-handed reliever is on the 60-day injured list, so he won't be eligible to return until late May. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Cleared for rehab assignment
Friedl (wrist) has been sent to Triple-A Louisville to begin a rehab assignment, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl suffered a small fracture of the distal radius of his right wrist back in mid-March but has finally made enough progress in order to be cleared to play in games. Given how much time he's missed, he would figure to require a good number of rehab at-bats before rejoining the Reds' active roster. The Reds' outfield situation is already pretty crowded, but Friedl should earn close to everyday playing time once he's back in the fold. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Needs more recovery time
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Thursday that Raley (elbow) is no longer on track to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. "We're going to take it slow [with Raley]," Mendoza said.

Advice: Raley was placed on the shelf April 21 with left elbow inflammation, and while Mendoza didn't indicate that the southpaw has experienced any setbacks since being shut down, he doesn't seem to be progressing as quickly as anticipated, either. He'll be sent in for further imaging in the coming days as a precaution, and he could start ramping up his throwing program thereafter. Raley was one of the Mets' top setup men in 2023 and had gotten off to a strong start to 2024 before landing on the IL, striking out nine over seven scoreless innings while allowing just five baserunners and collecting four holds and one win. • Gets rest day Thursday
Taveras is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Taveras appears to be getting a routine off day as Washington and Texas conclude their series with a day game after a night game. The 25-year-old had started in each of the Rangers' last five contests, recording at least one hit in each of those games to bring his average up to .229 for the season. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago
  • Slated for season debut Saturday
Means will start Saturday in Cincinnati, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Means was officially activated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday and now the Orioles have revealed the date for the left-hander's season debut. While Means pitched poorly for most of his rehab assignment, he was excellent in his final outing with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, striking out eight over seven shutout innings while allowing just one hit and one walk. The southpaw got his pitch count up to 95 in that start, so he shouldn't have any workload concerns Saturday against the Reds. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

  • Checks out of starting nine
Urias is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Though he's seen his playing time in the infield pick up of late after second baseman Jackson Holliday was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk last Friday, Urias will head to the bench Thursday after starting at third base in three of the previous four games. Jordan Westburg will occupy the hot corner Thursday, opening up a spot at the keystone for Jorge Mateo. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Surgery not ruled out
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Yoshida might require surgery on his injured left thumb, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Yoshida was placed on the injured list Wednesday with what has been termed a left thumb strain. Cora noted Thursday that the medical staff is still gathering information regarding the injury before a decision is made on next steps for Yoshida, but it appears surgery is one of the possibilities. More clarity on the designated hitter's status should be available by the weekend. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Walker Buehler (elbow) to make debut Monday
Walker Buehler (elbow) is scheduled to make his season debut on Monday, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Advice: It’s been about 20 months since Buehler has pitched in a major league game, but that will come to an end in just a few days. The 29-year-old hurler has been putting together multiple rehab stints to get ramped up for his return to the Dodgers. In his last outing, he allowed just one run across five innings and threw 75 pitches. This will be a big season for Buehler as he and the team have entertained the possibility of a contract extension in the past, but now it will be an important factor for the team as he enters free agency after 2024. • Gets rest day against lefty
O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will head to the bench for the series finale while the Yankees bring southpaw Carlos Rodon to the bump. Adley Rutschman will receive a day off behind the plate and will fill in for O'Hearn as the Orioles' designated hitter. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago
