• Cubs designate José Cuas for assignment on Sunday
Cubs designated RHP José Cuas for assignment.

Advice: The Cubs needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Ethan Roberts on Sunday and unfortunately, Cuas drew the short straw this time around. The 29-year-old hurler has made nine appearances at the big-league level this season, posting a 7.43 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and a 14/6 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings. He could pique another team’s interest on waivers. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

  • Mediocre in victory
Berrios (6-5) picked up the win Sunday against Cleveland, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and zero walks while striking out one batter over six innings.

Advice: Berrios was one out away from recording his 12th quality start of the season, but Daniel Schneemann launched a two-run shot with two outs in the sixth, the only extra-base hit yielded by Berrios. Over his past 10 starts, the 30-year-old has allowed a home run in nine of them, recording a 4.32 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP across 60.1 innings in that span. Berrios will look to bounce back in his next start, currently scheduled for next weekend in Cleveland. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

  • Suffers hand fracture
Betts (wrist) suffered a fractured bone in his left hand in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Royals.

Advice: Betts exited the game in the seventh inning in a heap of pain after taking a fastball off his left hand/wrist and he'll now be sidelined for a significant amount of time. On the bright side, manager Dave Roberts said that the 31-year-old will not need surgery to repair the injury. Betts will likely be placed on the injured list Monday and in his absence, Miguel Rojas could step into a starting role at shortstop for Los Angeles. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

  • Miguel Vargas expected to join Dodgers in Colorado
Miguel Vargas is expected to join the Dodgers in Colorado on Monday with Mookie Betts (hand) landing on the injured list.

Advice: Vargas was just optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday, but he’ll head right back with Betts heading to the injured list. Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts said that Miguel Rojas and Enrique Hernandez are likely to see the bulk of the action at shortstop with Betts sidelined, but that Vargas will fill a role on the team’s bench. If he gets a chance at starts to hit though, it’s going to be hard for Roberts to keep Vargas’ bat out of the lineup. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago

  • Designated for assignment
Cuas was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Sunday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Cuas will now be placed on waivers and if he goes unclaimed, he'll likely remain with Triple-A Iowa. The right-hander has struggled to a 6.35 ERA over 11.1 innings in 10 appearances in the minors and he'll have to right the ship before earning another shot on the 40-man roster. • Tyler Glasnow shuts down Royals, strikes out nine
Tyler Glasnow cruised against the Royals on Sunday, striking out nine over seven innings in the Dodgers’ 3-0 shutout.

Advice: Glasnow walked only one and needed just 85 pitches to get his 21 outs today. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak in which the Dodgers just couldn’t score runs for him. He’s 7-5 with a 3.00 ERA and a 125/25 K/BB in 93 innings for the year. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago

  • Evan Phillips improves to 10-for-10 in saves
Evan Phillips turned in a hitless ninth with a three-run lead for a save Sunday against the Royals.

Advice: Phillips had one rough outing in his second appearance back from the injured list, but he’s been lights out otherwise. This one made him 10-for-10 in save chances and put his ERA back under 2.00 at 1.93. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago
  • Brady Singer tagged for three homers in loss
Brady Singer allowed three runs, all of them coming on solo homers, over six innings Sunday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: At least Singer got beaten by the best, giving up two homers to Shohei Ohtani and one to Freddie Freeman. Singer has opened June by surrendering 13 runs — 11 earned — in 15 1/3 innings. He’s a solid enough fantasy option with the Royals playing well, but he might prove droppable later this season. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago

  • Mookie Betts diagnosed with fractured left hand
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters after Sunday’s game that Mookie Betts has been diagnosed with a fractured left hand.

Advice: The unfortunate injury occurred when he was hit by a 98 mph fastball during Sunday’s game against the Royals. Roberts relayed that while the injury will not require surgery, it will take time to heal. He wouldn’t elaborate on that timetable, other than to say that the injury will not end his 2024 season. Expect Miguel Rojas to see increased action at shortstop while the 31-year-old superstar is shelved. Rotoworld 44 minutes ago
