      Brent Rooker went 2-for-4 with a double on Wednesday against the Angels.

      Advice: The Athletics keep losing, but Rooker keeps hitting. The double was his 32nd extra-base hit of the season and his OPS has climbed up to .845, 20th in the league among qualified players.       Marcus Semien finished 0-for-5 on Wednesday and is in a 4-for-41 slump in his last 10 games.

      Advice: Semien started off well enough in April, but he’s been treading water for about two months now, and particularly unfortunate for fantasy leaguers is that he’s attempted just four steals this season, converting three of them.       Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Connor Wong is expected to return from the paternity list on Friday.

      Advice: The hard-hitting backstop missed the first half of the week to attend the birth of his child, but expect him to be right back behind the dish for Friday’s series opener against the Padres.     • Won't travel for start of road trip
      Astros manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that Verlander (neck) hasn't resumed playing catch and won't accompany the team to New York for this weekend's three-game series versus the Mets, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Verlander isn't eligible to return from the 15-day injured list until Monday, but with the Astros continuing their trip in Toronto and then Minnesota next week, the right-hander's absence for the start of the road swing wouldn't seem to inspire much optimism about his chances of being ready to make a start against the Blue Jays, and perhaps even the Twins. The Astros will likely wait and see if Verlander is able to take any meaningful steps forward in his recovery from the neck issue over the next few days while he's back in Houston before determining his status for the Toronto series.       Advice: The 24-year-old third baseman wasn't intimidated by the atmosphere in the Subway Series, or by the prospect of facing Gerrit Cole -- Vientos took the 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner deep in the second and fourth innings to help the Mets build an early 6-0 lead.       Anderson (7-7) picked up the win Tuesday against Oakland, allowing three runs on five hits and five walks across five innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: Walks have been an especially pertinent issue for Anderson as of late, with Tuesday's start being his third time issuing five free passes in six appearances. Despite finding the strike zone on just 62 of his 109 pitches, Anderson was good enough at limiting damage to pull out his seventh victory of the season. Still, when the A's made contact, they hit Anderson hard. Three of the 34-year-old's five hits surrendered went for extra bases, with Brent Rooker clubbing a solo homer in the fifth frame.
