  • Bryce Harper “possibly” back on Tuesday
    Phillies manager Rob Thomson said “possibly” when asked if Bryce Harper (hamstring) will return on Tuesday against the Dodgers.

    Advice: Bryce Harper was able to run the bases at “close to 100 percent” on Saturday and that was “the final step in his recovery.” The Phillies now just need to determine if “close to 100 percent” is enough to activate their star. Obviously, the series against the Dodgers is a big one, but the Phillies have a commanding lead in the NL East and a series with Oakland following this one against Los Angeles. With the All-Star break looming, the team could just decide to ensure Harper is fully healthy for the second part of the season.   • Hitting bench Monday
    Jones is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.

    Advice: The lefty-hitting Jones will retreat to the bench for the series opener in Cincinnati while southpaw Andrew Abbott takes the hill for the Reds. Hunter Goodman will get the start in left field in place of Jones, who is getting on base at a .355 clip but has provided few counting statistics (two home runs, one stolen base, seven RBI, six runs) in his 21 games since he returned from the injured list in mid-June.   • Makes pinch-hit appearance Sunday
    Rodriguez (quadriceps) entered Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and was hit by a pitch in his one plate appearance.

    Advice: Rodriguez was out of the starting nine after being removed early from Saturday's game against Toronto with the quadriceps injury, but a subsequent MRI came back with "nothing out of the ordinary," per MLB.com. As had been announced by manager Scott Servais before Sunday's contest after Rodriguez completed some pregame running drills, the outfielder was healthy enough to take an at-bat. However, Servais immediately substituted Dylan Moore for Rodriguez on the basepaths once the latter was plunked, and Rodriguez was subsequently formally ejected in the ninth inning for shouting from the dugout after a called third strike on Mitch Garver.   • Extremely efficient versus Yankees
    Crawford (5-7) earned the win Sunday against the Yankees after tossing seven shutout innings while allowing just four hits. He struck out four.

    Advice: Crawford was incredibly efficient Sunday night, needing just 68 pitches to coast through seven frames while throwing 54 strikes. Crawford's never pitched into the eighth before, and while he certainly could've based on pitch count, manager Alex Cora decided to turn to the bullpen for the final six outs. Crawford contributed to shutting out the Yankees offense for the first time since April and now owns an 11:0 K:BB over his last 13 innings after back-to-back starts without issuing a walk. The 28-year-old now owns a 3.24 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 106:28 K:BB in 105.2 innings and will look to finish out the first half strong as he prepares to face the Royals at home in a weekend series.   • Kutter Crawford goes seven scoreless to beat Yanks
    Kutter Crawford delivered a brilliant performance in Sunday night’s victory over the Yankees, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings of work.

    Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander punched out four batters on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. He needed just 68 pitches (54 strikes) to get through his seven innings. Crawford has never pitched into the eighth inning in his big-league career though, and the Red Sox trusted their bullpen to get the final six outs. Crawford generated nine whiffs on the night while posting an elite CSW of 38 percent. He’ll attempt to finish the first half strong as he carries a stellar 3.24 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 106/28 K/BB ratio (105 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Royals.     Burleson went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Nationals.

    Advice: Burleson has picked up multiple hits in three of his last six games. He's also stolen two bases in his last three games and five over his last 15. The 25-year-old's impressive first half has been a key factor in the Cardinals turnaround as he's settled into the second spot in the lineup.   • Cruises to sixth win
    Eovaldi (6-3) earned the win Sunday over the Rays, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out five without walking a batter over seven innings.

    Advice: Eovaldi limited the damage to a two-run home run by Jose Caballero in the third inning, and the Rangers generated plenty of offense to counter that. This is the third start in a row where Eovaldi's completed seven innings, though it was a small step back from his one-hit outing versus the Padres last Tuesday. The right-hander has a 3.10 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 85:26 K:BB across 87 innings through 15 starts this season. He's projected for a road start in Houston his next time out.   • Tosses sim game, rehab start next
    Kershaw (shoulder) threw a two-inning simulated game Sunday in Los Angeles, the Associated Press reports. "It was good to see him throw two innings. We accomplished what we wanted to," manager Dave Roberts said after Kershaw's workout.

    Advice: Kershaw has resided on the injured list all season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder last November, but he looks like he could be ready to make his 2024 debut for the Dodgers at some point within the next month. The 36-year-old had previously made a three-inning rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on June 19, but he was then shut down from throwing for the next week after experiencing lingering soreness in his shoulder. According to Roberts, Kershaw is in line to resume his rehab assignment next Saturday, likely with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Kershaw is expected to cover three innings in that outing, and he's likely to require at least two rehab starts beyond that one before the Dodgers bring him back from the 60-day IL.     Nathan Eovaldi allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings in a win over the Rays on Sunday while striking out five and walking none.

    Advice: Eovaldi induced 16 whiffs on 49 swings for a 33 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW on the day. His splitter and curve missed tons of bats on the day, and he pounded the zone with his fastball to lower his ERA to 3.10 on the season.
