• Manny Machado (hip) remains out of Padres lineup
Manny Machado (hip) was held out of the Padres’ starting lineup for the third consecutive game on Saturday.

Advice: Unlike the previous two days though, Machado did participate in a full pregame workout with the team, indicating that his return is imminent. He should once again be available off the bench if needed on Saturday. Donovan Solano will start in his place at third base and bat fifth for the Brewers against Ryne Nelson and the Diamondbacks on Saturday evening in Arizona. Rotoworld 50 minutes ago

  • Sitting out third straight
Machado (hip) isn't in the Padres' lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Machado will miss his third start in a row Saturday, although he was able to participate in pregame drills for the first time since straining his right hip flexor Wednesday, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Donovan Solano will continue to fill in for Machado at third base, batting fifth against right-hander Ryne Nelson. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago

  • Manny Machado sits out Friday against D-backs
Manny Machado (hip) was held out of the lineup for Friday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Machado made a pinch-hit appearance during Thursday’s series opener against Arizona, but wasn’t needed during Friday’s one-sided affair. The 31-year-old third baseman is day-to-day with a mild right hip flexor strain and figures to return at some point this weekend. Rotoworld Today, 6:37 am

  • Michael King hurls five scoreless to beat D-backs
Michael King struck out five over five shutout innings on Friday in a win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: King received double-digit run support from San Diego’s offense and was able to cruise to a relatively easy win, scattering four hits and one walk over five spotless frames. The 29-year-old righty has been phenomenal of late, allowing three earned runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts since May 4. He’ll carry a sharp 3.58 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 83/32 K/BB ratio across 78 innings (14 appearances, 13 starts) into an extremely favorable matchup on Wednesday afternoon against the rebuilding Athletics. • Logs steal in win
Merrill went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 10-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: This was Merrill's first steal since May 14. Over the 20 contests between thefts, he hit a meager .224 (15-for-67) with no walks and just one extra-base hit. The 21-year-old still has a respectable .268/.303/.344 slash line with three home runs, 22 RBI, 24 runs scored and eight steals over 63 contests this year. Merrill has been benched against some left-handed pitchers recently, but he should have no trouble maintaining a majority of the playing time in center field over Jose Azocar. • Sharp in win
King (5-4) allowed four hits and one walk while striking out five over five scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: King wasn't all that efficient, needing 98 pitches (63 strikes) to get through five frames, but that's the only knock on his performance. He's been excellent over his last three starts, allowing just two runs on 11 hits and four walks with 16 strikeouts over his last 17 innings. King has a 3.58 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 83:32 K:BB through 78 innings across 14 appearances (13 starts). The right-hander will look to keep rolling in his next start, tentatively projected to come at home versus the Athletics. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:18 pm

  • Joe hits seventh home run Friday
Connor Joe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Twins on Friday.

Advice: The home run was Joe’s seventh of the year. He’s up to .270 with a .792 OPS on the season. While he’s seen regular playing time this year, he’s certainly proven to be better against left-handed pitching once again. Joe has a .288/.356/.500 line in 90 plate appearances against southpaws this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:20 pm

  • Still out of lineup
Machado (hip) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Machado sustained a mild right hip flexor strain Wednesday against the Angels, and the 31-year-old will sit again Friday. While he didn't start in the series opener against Arizona on Thursday, Machado did pinch hit for Kyle Higashioka in the eighth inning and grounded out to the pitcher. While Machado begins Friday's game in the dugout, Donovan Solano will start at third base and bat fifth against Diamonbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:49 pm

  • Getting day off
Kwan is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Miami.

Advice: The Guardians have now mixed in two off days for Kwan in the outfielder's first week back from a hamstring injury. David Fry will be the left fielder Friday and Tyler Freeman will be elevated to the leadoff spot. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:11 pm
