• Angels place 2B Luis Rengifo (wrist) on 15-day IL
Angels placed 2B Luis Rengifo on the 15-day injured list retroactive to July 4th with right wrist inflammation.

Advice: While recent X-rays on Rengifo’s wrist came back negative, the second baseman was still dealing with soreness in his right wrist and now finds himself on the injured list. This is a tough loss for fantasy managers as Rengifo was hitting .315 with 22 stolen bases this season. The timetable for his return is unclear. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

  • Goes on IL with wrist inflammation
The Angels placed Rengifo on the 10-day injured list Friday with right wrist inflammation.

Advice: It appears an MRI cleared Rengifo of any structural damage in the wrist, but with the All-Star break looming, the Angels have opted to go ahead and put the super utility player on the IL. Rengifo will be eligible for activation on July 14, the last day of the first half, but realistically he'll probably be held out at least through the break. He had been seeing most of his playing time lately at third base, and that position now figures to be occupied mostly by Miguel Sano. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago

  • Out of lineup, MRI results TBD
Rengifo (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Cubs, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Angels are still waiting on the results of an MRI on Rengifo's wrist, which he injured during Wednesday's game against the Athletics. He's currently listed as a reserve on the team's lineup card, but Keston Hiura has been added to the taxi squad and could replace Rengifo on the active roster, depending on the latter's test results. • Throws bullpen session
Assad (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Assad is just a little over a week removed from landing on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm extensor strain, so it's a good sign that he's already been cleared to throw off the bump. The Cubs have a doubleheader on July 13, and Assad being ready by that date could be in the cards if all goes well. Rotowire.com Today, 8:20 am

  • Moves to leadoff
Smith batted leadoff and went 2-for-4 in Thursday's 3-1 loss to San Diego.

Advice: Smith was moved up to leadoff, as a slumping Marcus Semien was given a rare day off. Smith continues to be a surprise and leads the Rangers with a 2.7 WAR. He should continue to see regular work at third base with Josh Jung (wrist) not expected to return until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 6:22 am

  • Steals base in loss
Garcia went 0-for-3 with a walk and a steal in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Padres.

Advice: Garcia stole his seventh bag of the season in fourth inning then was thrown out at home trying to score on Leody Taveras' single. Garcia, who stole 25 bases (31 attempts) in 2022, is an occasional base stealer these days. He was successful on nine of 10 attempts last year and seven of nine thus far in 2024. Thursday's walk extended Garcia's on-base streak to 14 games (.350 OBP). Rotowire.com Today, 6:15 am

  • Trio of hits, homer
Kwan went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and walked in a run during Thursday's 8-4 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Kwan reached base four times Thursday and tagged Jared Shuster for a homer in the second inning. The outing was Kwan's first three-hit game since June 16 and his 12th of the season. MLB's leader in batting average, Kwan is slashing .367/.424/.538 with 50 runs across 265 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:12 pm

  • Picks up seventh win
King (7-5) picked up the win Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks against the Rangers. He struck out five.

Advice: King held the Rangers scoreless through five, then was removed after allowing two batters to reach base with one out in the sixth, eventually resulting in one earned run against. It's the sixth time in his last eight starts that King has allowed one earned run or fewer and the 10th such outing this season. Over his last eight outings, King has tossed 44 innings with a 2.45 ERA and 53 strikeouts. His next opportunity to toe the rubber is scheduled to come at home against the Mariners next week. • Fares well in no-decision
Miller allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Thursday.

Advice: Miller gave up a two-run home run to Gunnar Henderson in the third inning, but he was able to limit the damage there. While he came an out shy of a quality start for the second time in four outings, Miller put in a decent performance to avoid a third straight loss. The right-hander is at a 3.84 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 97:29 K:BB over 103 innings across 18 starts. He's projected for a road outing in San Diego in his next start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:39 pm
