      Advice: Fried pitched very well in the contest, matching the six-inning, six-hit, one-run line put up by rookie phenom Paul Skenes for the Pirates. The Atlanta hurler has given up exactly one run in each of his past three starts, though he was just one win in that span. While Fried's strikeout numbers are down this season -- he has just 84 punchouts over 96 innings -- he's put up his usual ace-quality ratios otherwise with a 2.91 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through 16 starts.       Advice: Valdez struggled in the second and third innings, but the Astros were able to rally back to help him avoid a loss. Over six outings in June, he allowed 16 runs across 37.2 innings, though 11 of those runs came in two starts. The southpaw is still struggling compared to his usual level of performance with a 4.11 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 68:29 K:BB over 85.1 innings through 14 starts this year.       Initial X-rays on the injured left hand/wrist of Corey Seager came back negative for any fractures on Saturday.

      Advice: That doesn’t necessarily mean that the coast is clear, as he’ll still undergo additional testing, but it’s very encouraging to hear that there were no fractures revealed on the initial X-rays.       Seager's (wrist) X-rays came back negative and he'll undergo further evaluation Sunday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

      Advice: Seager was hit in the left wrist by a pitch during Saturday's game against the Orioles and was immediately removed from the contest. Considering he looked to be in significant pain, Seager's X-rays returning negative is certainly an encouraging sign. Sill, it seems like he'll be held out of Sunday's series finale.       Seager was hit in the left wrist by a pitch in the fifth inning and immediately exited the game, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

    • Corey Seager (hand) leaves game after hit by pitch
      Corey Seager was removed from Saturday’s game against the Orioles after being hit by a pitch on his left hand in the fifth inning.

      Advice: On the seventh pitch of his at-bat in the fifth inning, Cade Povich tried to come inside with a 90.5 mph sinker and clipped Seager near his left hand/wrist. Seager immediately retreated to the clubhouse, didn’t make any attempt to stay in the game. He’ll head for X-rays to see if there’s any structural damage.     • Valdez allows six runs in no-decision Saturday
      Framber Valdez allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Astros’ 9-6 victory over the Mets on Saturday.



      Advice: Valdez gave up 10 hits, walked three and struck out five. He allowed at least five runs for the second time in his last four starts. Valdez’ ERA is 4.11 on the year, though there is some hope for him to bounce back given his 3.55 xFIP. The 30-year-old left-hander is set to face the Blue Jays on the road next week.

    • Max Fried limits Pirates to one over six
      Max Fried fired six innings while allowing one run with four strikeouts in a no-decision versus the Pirates on Saturday.

      Advice: Fried wasn’t as dominant in terms of missing bats as his starting counterpart Paul Skenes was, but he was effective nonetheless. The southpaw hurler did allow six hits and three walks, but he was unscored upon minus a sac fly in the fifth inning from Edward Olivares.     • Ankle injury not considered serious
      Manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday that Edman (wrist) was able to field grounders again Friday without any problems in his sprained ankle, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

      Advice: Marmol added that Edman remains on track to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield or Triple-A Memphis sometime next week, barring any setbacks. The 29-year-old infielder has spent all season on the injured list, so an extended stint in the minors will likely be necessary, though it's still possible he'll be able to rejoin the big-league club before the All-Star break.
