    • Lasts only three innings
Stone did not factor into the decision in a loss to Arizona on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over three innings while striking out three.

Advice: Stone battled with Arizona's lineup from the jump, allowing three of the first four batters to reach in the opening frame before allowing another three baserunners in the second. He then surrendered four runs on four hits in the third, including a two-run homer off the bat of Gabriel Moreno as the Diamondbacks evened the score at four runs apiece. The right-hander would not return for the fourth after needing 77 pitches to get through three frames, marking his shortest outing since April 7 against the Cubs. Stone had gone at least five innings in 11 consecutive starts coming in, though he's now walked multiple batters in five of his last six. Rotowire.com Today, 7:31 am

    • Receiving Thursday off
Santana is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Santana started the previous 13 games but will head to the bench Thursday after he posted a .288/.351/.442 slash line with five doubles, two RBI and six runs during that span. Jose Miranda will move to first base while Trevor Larnach serves as the designated hitter, opening up left field for Manuel Margot against Detroit righty Kenta Maeda. • Fans seven in eighth win
Bello (8-5) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk over 6.2 innings in a 7-2 victory over the Marlins. He struck out seven.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander was given a breather by the Red Sox -- his last start came back on June 25, when he lasted only 2.1 innings and surrendered seven runs to the Blue Jays -- and it paid off, as Bello produced his fourth quality start of the season on 91 pitches (61 strikes). The seven Ks were his highest total since May 28, while Wednesday's outing was the first time he hadn't issues multiple free passes since May 17. Bello should resume his regular turn in the rotation after this performance, which lines him up to take the mound at home early next week against the A's. Rotowire.com Today, 6:06 am
    • Gavin Stone struggles against Diamondbacks
Gavin Stone allowed four runs with three strikeouts over three innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Advice: This wasn’t one Stone’s best outings as the Diamondbacks chased him after just three frames. A base hit and two walks loaded the bases before the Diamondbacks brought a run in on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. He worked around a bases-loaded jam in the second, then gave up three runs, including a two-run blast by Gabriel Moreno, in the third. That was it for Stone, ending his day with a 3.03 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 73/28 K/BB ratio across 92 innings. He’ll take on the Phillies in Philadelphia on Tuesday. • Josh Smith knocks in run with a double
Josh Smith went 1-for-4 an RBI double on Wednesday against the Padres.

Advice: Smith’s double was the third Rangers’ run in a three-run third inning off Adam Mazur. It felt like they’d be in for a big night before being shut down by the Padres bullpen. Still, Smith will not stop hitting and he’s slotted in either second or third the Rangers’ lineup for 12 straight games. Hit smack dab in the middle of Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Adolis García, and Wyatt Langford is a great place to accumulate runs and RBI. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:55 pm

    • Brayan Bello whiffs seven in victory over Marlins
Brayan Bello recorded seven strikeouts and surrendered one run over 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a win over the Marlins.

Advice: Bello served up a run-scoring single to Jesús Sánchez in the opening frame, but managed to settle in shortly afterwards, keeping Miami off the scoreboard until the late innings of this one before turning things over to Boston’s bullpen with two outs in the seventh inning. It was a much-needed rebound performance for the 25-year-old righty after getting knocked around for seven runs over 2 1/3 innings his last time out against the Blue Jays. He’ll bring a pedestrian 5.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 71/30 K/BB ratio across 78 innings (15 starts) into an extremely favorable home matchup on Tuesday in his penultimate outing prior to the All-Star break. • Not in Wednesday's lineup
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Alvarez started the first two games of the series but will sit Wednesday after going 3-for-10 with a double, a triple, three RBI and six strikeouts. Luis Torrens will handle the catching duties for rookie righty Christian Scott. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:58 pm
    • Could return as second baseman
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated over the weekend that he may consider having Betts (wrist) play primarily at second base upon his return, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: The consideration to shift Betts back to second base from shortstop is primarily due to the impressive performance of Miguel Rojas, who has played excellent defense, as usual, while adding a surprisingly potent bat (he's slashing .291/.337/.437 over 164 plate appearances). The versatile Betts is no stranger to second base; he played a career-high 70 games at the position last year after beginning the campaign in the outfield. Betts was then asked to move to shortstop ahead of 2024 despite never having logged time there in the majors prior to 2023, and he's performed adequately defensively despite a few hiccups. It remains to be seen if the Dodgers will ultimately pursue having Betts and Rojas form their middle infield for most games, and Roberts has time to think through that scenario since Betts remains several weeks away from returning. He threw and ran Tuesday, per the Associated Press, but hasn't yet swung a bat. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:18 pm

    • On verge of rehab assignment
Bogaerts (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment within the next day or two, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union Tribune reports.

Advice: Bogaerts had a CT scan of his left shoulder Monday, the results of which indicated that he is ready to resume playing. Acee indicates that the infielder will likely head out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso in the coming days, and team officials have previously suggested that a rehab stint would last 7 to 10 days. Though manager Mike Shildt recently said that there is no timeline for Bogaerts' activation from the injured list, if all goes well moving forward, he could rejoin the Padres for their home series against Atlanta that begins July 12.
