    • Alex Vesia closes out Brewers on Saturday night
Alex Vesia picked up his fifth save of the season on Saturday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a two-run lead against the Brewers.

Advice: The Dodgers deployed Evan Phillips in the eighth inning to face the heart of the Brewers’ lineup with a one-run lead, and he served up a game-tying homer to Christian Yelich. The Dodgers answered right back with a pair of runs of their own though and Vesia came on to make sure that it stood up. He got Rhys Hoskins on a swinging third strike, Blake Perkins on foul out to first and Andruw Monasterio on a fly ball to left to end it. He has now converted five saves while registering a stellar 1.36 ERA in 39 2/3 innings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:16 pm

    • Freddy Peralta lasts four innings in no-decision
Freddy Peralta lasted just four innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Saturday, surrendering three runs on four hits and three walks.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander punched out four batters on the night. He served up a two-run homer to Will Smith before he recorded an out in the ballgame then allowed a third run as Andy Pages bounced into a fielder’s choice in the opening inning. He settled in nicely afterwards, but still needed 104 pitches (64 strikes) to get through 12 outs. Peralta got a whopping 21 swings and misses on the night — 10 of those on his slider — while posting a CSW of 29 percent. He’ll look to finish the first half strong as he totes a 3.95 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 124/36 K/BB ratio (98 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Nationals. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:15 pm
    • Getting breather Saturday
Morel isn't in the Cubs' lineup Saturday against the Angels.

Advice: Morel has put together a three-game hitting streak, though he has also struck out six times in 12 at-bats over that span. He'll take a day to rest Saturday while David Bote fills in at third base, batting eighth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:54 am

    • Unlikely to play in All-Star Game
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Tatis (quadriceps) isn't likely to be able to play in the All-Star Game, Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Tatis was voted into the Midsummer Classic as a starter in the outfield alongside teammate Jurickson Profar, but it appears the former will need to sit out the contest. This isn't a surprising development, as Tatis had previously indicated that he could remain on the injured list until after the All-Star break. Tatis' election to the All-Star Game came as a result of a strong first half of the campaign during which he's slashed .279/.354/.468 with 14 homers, 36 RBI, 50 runs and eight stolen bases over 80 contests. • Finishes off Yankees
Rafaela went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning win over the Yankees.

Advice: Rafaela put the final touch on the Yankees, as the Red Sox hit two-run home runs in the ninth and 10th innings to steal a win at Yankee Stadium. It was the 10th homer for Rafaela, whose slow start to the season is in the past. The young outfielder/shortstop is batting .348/.375/.522 with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, 16 RBI and three steals over the last 24 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:15 am

    • Cole Ragans pitches well in no decision vs. COL
Cole Ragans didn’t factor into the decision despite allowing just two runs in seven innings with eight strikeouts against the Rockies on Friday.

Advice: Ragans did walk three and gave up five hits, but for the most part, it was a very strong outing and a nice bounce back from his struggles against the Guardians (4 2/3 innings, five runs). The left-hander has shown that 2023 was no fluke with a 3.28 ERA and 134/37 K/BB over his 19 starts and 109 2/3 innings of work. He very well could — and should — be named an All-Star, but his last start before that game will come against the Red Sox on Friday. Rotoworld Friday, 11:29 pm

    • Ceddanne Rafaela homers in 10th to lead Red Sox
After Masataka Yoshida’s homer tied it in the ninth, Ceddanne Rafaela hit a two-run homer in the 10th to propel the Red Sox past the Yankees 5-3 on Friday.

Advice: Yoshida hit a game-tying homer off Clay Holmes, and Rafaela followed with a go-ahead blast off Tommy Kahnle in the 10th. It was Rafaela’s 10th homer, which is impressive for a 23-year-old with such middling exit velocity numbers. Better plate discipline would be nice, but since Rafaela has proved adept at shortstop and in center field, he seems like a long to become a long-term regular. Rotoworld Friday, 10:58 pm

    • Delivers walk-off homer
Machado went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double and three total runs scored in Friday's 10-8 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Padres blew a five-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, but Machado saved the day with his walk-off blast. He had started to go cold, going 2-for-15 over his previous four games, but he's now slugged five homers and added 11 RBI over his last nine contests. The third baseman is at a .270/.320/.425 slash line with 12 long balls, 49 RBI, 42 runs scored and five stolen bases through 84 games this season. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:34 pm

    • Manny Machado hits game-winning homer in ninth
Manny Machado hit a walkoff two-run homer to give the Padres a 10-8 win over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: The Padres trailed 8-7 in the ninth, but after Jurickson Profar took Paul Sewald deep to tie the game and Jake Cronenworth walked, Machado blasted a two-run shot off Sewald for the game-winner. The 32-year-old star has a dozen homers and 49 RBI on the season, but none bigger — at this point, anyway — than the ones he procured Friday night. Rotoworld Friday, 10:33 pm
