    • Verlander (neck) throws 25 pitches in bullpen Sunday
Justin Verlander (neck) threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session Sunday.

Advice: Verlander used all of his pitches and made it through the session without incident. The 41-year-old has been sidelined for about a month with a neck ailment and the Astros will exercise caution before clearing him for a minor league rehab assignment. Still, the hope is that he’ll contribute for a good portion of the second half. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

    • Goes three innings in rehab start
Kershaw (shoulder) tossed three scoreless and hitless innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, allowing one walk and striking out five batters.

Advice: Kershaw was very impressive in the outing, allowing just one baserunner while throwing 38 pitches. It was the veteran lefty's second minor-league rehab appearance, and his first since June 19. Kershaw also went three innings in his initial rehab outing but experienced soreness in a subsequent bullpen session and was temporarily shut down from throwing. Per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers got positive reports on Kershaw's outing Saturday, and he'll next go 4-to-5 innings in another rehab appearance with OKC on Friday. If that goes well, the future Hall of Famer could be ready to rejoin the big-league club. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago

    • Kershaw (shoulder) strikes out five in rehab start
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) struck out five batters over three scoreless frames Saturday in a rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: Kershaw walked one batter and didn’t give up a hit. He threw 23 out of 38 pitches for strikes and struck out the side in the second inning, so the Dodgers have to be thrilled at his progress from shoulder surgery. He’s slated to make another rehab start next Friday, and it’s possible he could be ready to rejoin the Dodgers from there. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago

    • Completes bullpen session
Verlander (neck) threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Verlander used his entire arsenal in the session and finished the bullpen without incident, per McTaggart. He had originally been expected to toss 10-to-15 pitches, so all signs are that he's trending in a positive direction. A timeframe for Verlander's return isn't yet clear, but it is possible that he could rejoin Houston's rotation before the end of July. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

    • Heading to bench Sunday
Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Mullins hit the bench for Saturday's 6-1 loss while right-hander Luis Gil took the hill for the Yankees, and Mullins will remain out of the lineup for the series finale with a southpaw (Carlos Rodon) taking the hill for the opposition. Colton Cowser will cover center field and bat ninth in Mullins' place. Rotowire.com Today, 7:14 am

    • Fans 11 in Saturday's win
Cease (8-8) picked up the win Saturday, allowing only one hit and three walks over six scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over Atlanta. He struck out 11.

Advice: The Padres got on the board with a run in the second inning, and it's all the support Cease and the bullpen would need. The right-hander racked up double-digit Ks for the third time this season en route to his 11th quality start, and Cease produced an impressive 27 swinging strikes among his 106 pitches. He'll head into the All-Star break with a 3.99 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 149:36 K:BB through 115 innings, putting him just one strikeout behind former teammate Garrett Crochet for the major-league lead. • Carlos Estévez keeps rolling Saturday with 17th save
Carlos Estévez fired a perfect ninth inning on Saturday against the Mariners to collect his 17th save of the season.

Advice: Estévez, who has reeled off 15 consecutive scoreless appearances dating back to May 21, has been the subject of persistent trade rumors over the last few weeks and figures to be dealt to a contender at the upcoming trade deadline. The 31-year-old righty has converted 17 of 20 save chances this season to accompany a solid 2.61 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 31/4 K/BB ratio across 31 innings (31 appearances). According to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register it will likely be hard-throwing Ben Joyce taking over as the Angels’ primary stopper once Estévez is dealt. Rotoworld Today, 3:21 am
    • Clean inning for save
Estevez struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Mariners.

Advice: This was Estevez's first save since June 28, though that was due to a lack of opportunity. He's riding a 15-inning scoreless streak in which he has a 14:1 K:BB and just three hits allowed. The closer is up to 17 saves in 20 chances while pitching to a 2.61 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 31:4 K:BB through 31 innings this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:27 pm
    • Dylan Cease fans 11 in dominant win over Braves
Dylan Cease delivered an exceptional performance in Saturday night’s victory over the Braves, piling up 11 strikeouts over six innings of shutout baseball.

Advice: Cease allowed just one hit on the night — an infield single by Marcell Ozuna to start the second inning — while issuing three free passes. The biggest threat against him came as Cease issued a pair of one-out walks in the fourth inning, but he battled back to get Adam Duvall on a pop out and Eddie Rosario on strikes to end that threat. He generated a whopping 27 swings and misses on 106 pitches on the night — 14 on his slider and 12 on his fastball — while posting an elite CSW of 37 percent. The 28-year-old hurler wraps up his first half with an 8-8 record, 3.99 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and a 149/36 K/BB ratio over 115 frames in his 20 starts. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:54 pm
