Espinal will start at third base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Espinal will occupy third base for the fifth time in six games, with three of those starts coming against right-handers. For the second time during that stretch, Espinal will take aim at Pirates lefty Bailey Falter, who takes the hill for the Pirates on Monday. Espinal will carry a five-game hitting streak into Monday's contest, and he could end up handling a near-everyday role in the Cincinnati infield until the team elects to reinstate Noelvi Marte (suspension) to the big-league roster. Marte's 80-game suspension comes to an end Thursday, but he's struggled during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville and could be optioned if the Reds prefer to hand Espinal regular playing time. • Absent from lineup
Black is not in the lineup for Monday's tilt versus the Rangers.

Advice: Black was in the lineup for each of the last four games against right-handers following his recall from Triple-A Nashville, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Rangers send righty Michael Lorenzen to the bump. Rhys Hoskins is at first base and Christian Yelich will occupy the designated hitter spot. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:19 pm

    • Heads back to minors
The Guardians optioned Martinez to Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Advice: The Guardians gave Martinez a brief look while Gabriel Arias (personal) was away from the team over the weekend while on the family medical emergency list. Arias was activated ahead of Monday's series opener in Baltimore, so Martinez will go back to Triple-A to pick up more regular playing time. He's produced a .333/.438/.550 slash line at Columbus in 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:00 pm

    • Sitting again amid slump
Freeman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: For the second time in three days, Freeman will hit the bench as the Guardians open up room in center field for Daniel Schneemann. Over his last 10 games, Freeman has gone 4-for-31 at the plate, and his June swoon could end up costing him his regular spot in the starting lineup. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:57 pm

    • Guardians send down Angel Martínez to Triple-A
Guardians optioned SS Angel Martínez to Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Making his major league debut, Martínez started two of the three games for which he was on the Guardians’ roster and went 2-for-7. The Guardians will have to consider finding room for him somewhere on the diamond later this season if he keeps performing in Triple-A; he had a .988 OPS in 17 games before being called up. • Goes on IL with strained thumb
The Royals placed Frazier on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right thumb strain.

Advice: Frazier suffered the injury during Saturday's 6-0 loss to the Rangers during a collision in the field with teammate Garrett Hampson. It's not clear how long he'll be out, but the issue was deemed significant enough to keep Frazier on the shelf until at least early July. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:40 pm

    • Royals place Adam Frazier on IL due to thumb
Royals placed INF/OF Adam Frazier on the 10-day injured list with a strained right thumb.

Advice: Taking Frazier out of the mix could help Kansas City’s offense some, as he’s been playing too much while batting .211/.297/.299 in 165 plate appearances. The Royals will likely give Hunter Renfroe more time in right field. Nick Loftin and Michael Massey figure to play second base, with Massey also seeing time at DH. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:37 pm

    • Returns from injured list
The Royals activated Massey (back) from the 10-day injured list Monday. He'll serve as the Royals' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Monday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: Massey has been limited to just 29 games this season because of a pair of back-related absences. He responded well to a recent pain-killing injection, however, and is ready to rejoin the Royals after completing a five-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha this past week. There's certainly risk in another aggravation of the back issue, but Massey is worth picking up in fantasy leagues where available given how well he had been hitting before getting hurt (.835 OPS in 110 plate appearances with Kansas City). • Royals activate Michael Massey from injured list
Royals activated 2B Michael Massey from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Massey wasn’t expected to return just yet, but the Royals are bringing him back early with Adam Frazier down. Massey, who missed a month with a sprained back ligament, had played in five Double-A rehab games, going 4-for-21 with no extra-base hits, but he was still being limited to DH duties. He may spend some time there for the Royals, too. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:34 pm
