      Advice: Morton had his swing-and-miss stuff working, racking up 22 whiffs among his 105 pitches. The veteran hurler fell behind by a run in the first inning but yielded only two hits while holding the Rays scoreless thereafter. This was a nice bounce-back for Morton after he surrendered five runs (four earned) over five innings against Washington in his previous start.       Bobby Witt Jr. stole a base while going 2-for-5 in a victory for the Royals over the Dodgers on Saturday.

      Advice: Witt Jr. also drove in a run with his single in the seventh, and it gave the Royals a 6-2 cushion. The star shortstop’s theft gives him 20 on the season, and there’s a good chance he’s going to pass the 49 swipes that he picked up in 2023.       Tyler O’Neill went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI in Saturday night’s 8-4 victory over the Yankees.

      Advice: O’Neill opened the scoring in the home half of the first inning with a one-out double off of the Green Monster that plated Jarren Duran from second base. O’Neill then raced around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Connor Wong. The 28-year-old slugger also singled in the second inning and scored on a two-run double by Rafael Devers.       Kenley Jansen picked up his 11th save of the season on Saturday night, recording the final four outs against the Yankees.

      Advice: Jansen came on to put out a fire in the eighth inning with two men on and two outs with the Red Sox clinging to a two-run advantage. He got Anthony Volpe to fly out to right field to end the threat — then returned to work a perfect ninth inning to close it out.       Nathan Eovaldi lasted just three innings while allowing four runs with six strikeouts in a loss to the Mariners on Saturday.

      Advice: Eovaldi needed 75 pitches to get through the three frames, and the Rangers called it a day for the 34-year-old after he completed that frame. he allowed four walks and allowed four hits, including a two-run homer to Julio Rodríguez. A rare off-night for Eovaldi, who still has a solid 3.15 ERA even with this disappointing — and not disastrous — effort. He’s scheduled to face the Royals next weekend.       Scherzer (back/arm) is expected to throw 70-75 pitches in a rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, which will be his final rehab start barring a setback, Josh Kirshenbaum of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Saturday's start will be Scherzer's second rehab appearance, following up four scoreless innings Sunday. If all goes well, Scherzer will be ready to return to the active roster and make his 2024 debut after undergoing an offseason back surgery and dealing with thumb and forearm issues throughout his recovery.
