• Productive in Tuesday's win
Garver went 2-for-5 with an RBI fielder's choice, a run-scoring double and another two-bagger in a win over the Guardians on Tuesday.

Advice: Garver pushed the Mariners' lead to 4-1 in the third inning with his first two-bagger of the night, which plated Cal Raleigh. The former would eventually lace another double, but his second RBI came on his seventh-inning groundout that brought home Ty France. Garver is still sitting on a profoundly disappointing .179 average but has driven in 13 runs over his last 13 games. That's a stretch in which he's laced eight of his 10 hits for extra bases while posting a .294 average and .929 OPS across 20 plate appearances with men in scoring position. • Signs with Cubs
The Cubs signed Nido to a one-year contract Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: The Cubs will swap out Yan Gomes -- who was designated for assignment -- for Nido. Nido was designated for assignment himself and eventually released by the Mets earlier this month but he quickly lands on his feet in Chicago, where he'll share catching duties with Miguel Amaya. • Loses roster spot
The Cubs designated Gomes for assignment Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Chicago has signed Tomas Nido to take Gomes' roster spot and serve as the primary backup to top catcher Miguel Amaya. Gomes, who turns 37 years old in July, has a dreadful .421 OPS and 37.5-percent strikeout rate over 33 games this season. He's making $6 million in 2024, and the Cubs will have to eat the remainder of that salary after Gomes clears waivers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:58 am

  • Receiving rest Wednesday
Stubbs is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Stubbs will get some rest in the series finale after he caught three of the Phillies' last four games. Rafael Marchan will settle in behind the plate in Wednesday's day game. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:48 am
  • Report: Cubs replacing Yan Gomes with Tomás Nido
The Cubs are designating Yan Gomes for assignment and signing Tomás Nido to replace him, according to Bleacher Nation’s Michael Cerami.

Advice: The end can come quickly sometimes. The usually solid Gomes actually performed a little better than his career norms at age 35 last season, but he’s really slipped both offensively and defensively this year. Nido won’t help with the offense, but he is an excellent defender and he might cut into Miguel Amaya’s playing time some. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:40 am

  • Getting breather Tuesday
Wong is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Advice: Wong will get the day off Tuesday after making four consecutive starts. Reese McGuire will fill in behind the plate and bat seventh. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:53 pm
  • Idle Tuesday
Murphy is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Murphy has struggled after missing the first two months of the season with an oblique injury, owning a .408 OPS and a 28.6 percent strikeout rate across 56 plate appearances with Atlanta. As Murphy works through the slow start, Atlanta will turn to Travis d'Arnaud behind the plate Tuesday for the fourth time in nine games. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:19 pm
  • Collects three hits
Alvarez went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI in Monday's win against Texas.

Advice: Alvarez singled and scored in the fifth inning before delivering RBI base hits in the sixth and eighth frames. He entered Monday's game in a 2-for-14 (.143) slump since returning from the injured list. Alvarez produced his first multi-hit game since April 11. He's now slashing .243/.282/.338 with 12 RBI through 23 games this season. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:41 pm
  • Will Smith moves into second spot in Dodger lineup
The Dodgers have Will Smith batting second in between Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman Monday in their first game since losing Mookie Betts.

Advice: Manager Dave Roberts indicated last night that Ohtani would lead off, but Smith jumping ahead of Freeman is a little bit of a surprise. It does make sense, particularly since it allows the Dodgers to go lefty-righty-lefty-righty at the top. Teoscar Hernández, as expected, is in the cleanup spot that’s typically been manned by Smith.
