    • Charlie Morton effective but wild in no-decision
      Charlie Morton held the Athletics scoreless over six innings on Sunday. He allowed just one hit along with five walks and six strikeouts in a no-decision.

      Advice: Poor command pushed Morton’s pitch count up in what was otherwise a fantastic outing. This was the sixth straight start in which Morton decreased the usage of his fastball and Sunday marked a season-low at 15%. In turn, he turned to more changeups which the Athletics couldn’t square up, but Morton also struggled to find the zone with it at times.       Berrios came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-innings win over the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

      Advice: The right-hander pounded the zone in his fourth straight quality start and 10th in 12 trips to the mound this season, firing 69 of 101 pitches for strikes. Berrios is tracking toward a career year, and he'll take a 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 58:18 K:BB through 74.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Orioles.       Civale didn't factor into the decision Friday against Baltimore, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Civale was sharp Friday, blanking the Orioles for five innings before he was ultimately charged with a lone run in the sixth. The 28-year-old Civale has been pitching better of late, allowing just three runs over 10.1 innings in his last two starts after struggling to an 8.48 ERA over his previous six outings. Overall, he's 2-4 on the year with a 5.37 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 60:18 K:BB across 62 innings. Civale's currently lined up for a rematch with Baltimore at home in his next start.       Cease did not factor into the decision in Friday's 11-8 win over the Royals, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Despite generating 16 whiffs out of his 98 total pitches, Cease managed to strike out only five, tying a season low also reached May 20 against Atlanta and April 27 against Philadelphia. The Padres ace was cruising through five innings, allowing just two baserunners; however, he unraveled in a 25-pitch sixth inning, allowing four baserunners and departing with just one out.       Dylan Cease allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.

      Advice: Cease was pretty great to begin the year, posting a 2.19 ERA in his first eight starts, but this makes four straight outings that have missed the quality-start threshold.       José Berríos struck out five Pirates across seven innings on Friday in a no-decision. He allowed six hits and didn’t walk a batter.

      Advice: Berríos leaned into his trusted slurve in this one and kept the Pirates off-balance all night.       Aaron Civale pitched 5 1/3 innings on Friday against the Orioles and allowed one earned run. He struck out three and walked one.

      Advice: Civale has simplified his approach of late. This was his seventh consecutive start throwing his cutter at least 30% of the time and the third time in four starts where he’s thrown it 40% of the time. The final results were solid here against one of the best offenses in baseball, but Civale induced just six swings and misses while the Orioles hit 10 balls hard.       Bassitt (neck) is listed as Toronto's probable starter for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

      Advice: The veteran right-hander made an early exit from his start Monday against the White Sox after pitching through neck spasms for five scoreless innings. It doesn't appear to be an ongoing issue, and Bassitt will attempt to build on his scoreless-innings streak of 12 frames versus the Pirates. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:40 pm

      Fried (5-2) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up seven hits and a walk over eight scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory over the Nationals. He struck out six.

      Advice: The southpaw was locked in a surprising pitchers' duel with Jake Irvin through six innings, but Fried outlasted his opposite number and Atlanta got to Washington's bullpen in the seventh. Fried has produced five quality starts in his last seven trips to the mound, allowing zero runs in four of them, and he sports a stellar 1.43 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB through 50.1 innings over that stretch.
