    Luis Castillo struck out three and allowed three runs over five innings on Sunday in a no-decision against the Twins.

    Advice: What a mess. Castillo was forced to grab a bat, and struck out looking in the fourth inning, after Seattle lost the designated hitter earlier in the contest when Mitch Haniger left the game following a hit by pitch. The 31-year-old righty was simply outdueled by Twins starter Joe Ryan, who limited the Mariners to just a pair of runs into the sixth inning before the bullpen took over and pretty much shut things down completely from there on out.     Tyler Anderson was lit up for six runs over 4 2/3 innings on Sunday in a loss to the Tigers.

    Advice: Anderson was shelled for seven hits, including a two-run homer by Tigers rookie Justyn-Henry Malloy. He finished with just two strikeouts and only issued one walk. The 34-year-old southpaw has experienced some significant pullback in the run-prevention department over the last few weeks as his ERA has ballooned from 2.47 back on May 29 to a more league-average 3.03 mark by the end of June.     Advice: Medina traded zeroes with Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt for a couple frames at the outset of the contest before giving up a run-scoring single to Christian Walker in the fourth inning. He nearly touched triple-digits with his four-seam fastball, and also piled up an impressive 14 swinging strikes, finishing with a strong 33 percent CSW. The hard-throwing 25-year-old righty has shown some flashes of big-time potential, but has been really inconsistent from a run-prevention standpoint since making his season debut back on June 2.   • Big Maple gets lit up Sunday in loss to Giants
    James Paxton was torched for nine runs on 12 hits over four innings on Sunday in a loss to the Giants.

    Advice: Paxton gave up a couple early runs before the metaphorical wheels came off completely in the fourth inning when he was obliterated for five runs on four hits, including a two-run homer by Matt Chapman, and one free pass. The dozen hits allowed were a career-high for Paxton, who struck out four and handed out a pair of walks as well. The 35-year-old southpaw had allowed just two runs combined across 16 innings of work over his previous three starts dating back to June 11.   • Resumes throwing
    Astros general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Verlander (neck) resumed playing catch from 60 feet Sunday and "felt good," Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: The 41-year-old's return to throwing is an encouraging development after he was shut down for a bit while recovering from neck soreness.
