• Pulled after three
Cecconi (2-6) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing one run on five hits over three innings against the Phillies. He struck out two.

Advice: Cecconi completed three innings and was pulled after tossing just 46 pitches, having allowed one earned run. He had tossed at least 70 pitches in each of his previous nine starts, but after allowing five hits and facing 11 batters during the second and third innings combined with a morning game-time temperature of 91 degrees, manager Torey Lovullo decided to pull the plug early on Cecconi's outing. Cecconi was coming off a performance on Tuesday in which he tossed six scoreless against the Nationals. His next start is schedule to come in a much softer matchup next weekend as the Diamondbacks play host to Oakland. Rotowire.com Today, 12:00 pm

  • Plays catch Saturday
Garcia (elbow) began playing catch Saturday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Garcia took the first step in his recovery Saturday after landing on the injured list June 17 due to right elbow ulnar neuritis. A short stint on the IL would benefit the Blue Jays, especially with Jordan Romano (elbow) having his throwing program halted. Prior to his injury, Garcia held a 2.57 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB over 28 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 11:57 am

  • Vinny Nittoli elects free agency on Sunday
Athletics RHP Vinny Nittoli elected free agency.

Advice: Nittoli will test the free agent waters rather than accept an outright minor league assignment after going unclaimed on waivers. The 33-year-old righty was designated for assignment earlier this week after making seven relief appearances for the rebuilding Athletics. Rotoworld Today, 11:55 am

  • Elects free agency
Nittoli cleared waivers Sunday and elected to become a free agent.

Advice: Nittoli was pushed off Oakland's 40-man roster Friday in order to make room for Osvaldo Bido. Rather than returning to Triple-A Las Vegas, the 33-year-old Nittoli will look to latch on with another organization -- likely in a situation that would offer MLB playing time. He owns a 2.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP through eight innings in the big leagues this season and has posted similar numbers in Triple-A, so he could attract a fair amount of attention on the open market. • Tosses seven scoreless
Sanchez (5-3) earned the win Sunday, allowing three hits and striking out four over seven scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Sanchez was highly efficient, needing just 80 pitches through seven and facing just one batter over the minimum thanks to a couple of timely double plays. The seven innings matched a season high for Sanchez, who tossed his eighth quality start and allowed zero runs over six or more innings for the second time this season. It's also the fifth time in his last six starts that Sanchez has allowed one or fewer runs, posting a 1.78 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 23 strikeouts over 35.1 innings during that stretch. His next start is scheduled to take place next weekend when the Phillies welcome Miami into the City of Brotherly Love for a four-game set. Rotowire.com Today, 11:39 am
  • Blue Jays claim José Cuas off waivers from Cubs
Blue Jays claimed RHP José Cuas off waivers from the Cubs.

Advice: Cuas was designated for assignment last weekend by Chicago after struggling to a lackluster 7.43 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 14/6 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings (nine appearances) this season in the majors. He’ll report to Triple-A Buffalo as extra organizational relief depth for Toronto. Rotoworld Today, 11:37 am
  • David Fry leaves game Sunday with possible injury
David Fry made an early exit from Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays with a potential injury.

Advice: MLB.com’s Henry Palattella adds that Fry was apparently struck in the head by a practice swing from Danny Jansen in the opening frame, so it’s highly likely he’s been lifted from the contest for precautinary reasons to undergo testing for a possible concussion. There should be an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld Today, 11:34 am

  • Cristopher Sánchez cruises in win over D-backs
Cristopher Sánchez shut out the Diamondbacks for seven innings, surrendering just three hits, in the Phillies’ 4-1 win Sunday.

Advice: Sánchez walked none and struck out four in the 80-pitch outing. He gave up a 387-foot fly to Christian Walker in the first that would have been a homer in nine ballparks, but CBP wasn’t one of them. Sánchez has still allowed just one homer in 84 1/3 innings for the year. He’s 5-3 with a 2.67 ERA. Rotoworld Today, 11:33 am
  • Slade Cecconi lifted after three versus Phillies
Slade Cecconi was lifted after allowing one run in three innings Sunday in his start against the Phillies.

Advice: Since the Diamondbacks didn’t use their key relievers Saturday and have tomorrow off, they were aggressive in going to the pen today. Cecconi allowed five hits in three innings, so it’s not like he was having an easy time out there anyway. He wound up with the loss, leaving him 2-6 with a 5.74 ERA. Rotoworld Today, 11:33 am
