    • Spencer Steer socks three-run HR against Yankees
Spencer Steer hit a three-run homer while helping the Reds to an 8-4 win over the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Steer extended the Reds’ lead to 5-0 with a three-run blast off Marcus Stroman; the third homer Cincinnati hit against the right-hander. Steer has now gone deep 11 times with 54 RBI. The 26-year-old infielder’s .239/.332/.416 slash leaves a bit to be desired, but he’s starting to swing the bat better and should be a solid fantasy option over the second half of the 2024 campaign. • Jake Irvin dominates Mets in win
Jake Irvin threw eight scoreless innings in a win over the Mets on Thursday, allowing just one hit and striking out eight.

Advice: It was sheer dominance from Irvin, who allowed a single to Jeff McNeil and nothing else. His curveball provided its typical strong results, and the trio of fastballs did their part as Irvin induced 15 whiffs on 47 swings for a 32 percent whiff rate and 38 percent CSW on the day. He now has a 2.80 ERA in what has been a breakout season and will look to keep that going next week against these same Mets. Rotoworld Today, 10:44 am

    • Has career day vs Mets
Irvin (7-6) earned the win Thursday against the Mets. He allowed one hit and one walk over eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts.

Advice: Irvin was brilliant Thursday as he threw a career-high eight innings to grab his seventh win. After giving up a one-out single to Jeff McNeil in the third, Irvin went on to retire the final 17 batters he faced. He became the first Nationals pitcher to throw eight shutout innings since Joe Ross in June 2021. The 27-year-old has registered a quality start in eight of his last nine appearances. He is making a case for a spot in the All-Star Game with his 2.80 ERA, which is ranked 10th in the majors. Rotowire.com Today, 10:32 am

    • Exits starting nine
Wong is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Miami.

Advice: Wong extended his hit streak to 17 games in Wednesday's win over the Marlins, but he'll take a seat for Thursday's matinee. Reese McGuire will be behind the plate for Nick Pivetta. Rotowire.com Today, 6:56 am

    • Hit streak at 17 games
Wong went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Marlins.

Advice: The backstop continued his breakout campaign, hitting safely in his 17th straight game while swiping his fourth bag of the year. Wong is slashing .333/.405/.470 during his hit streak, the longest by a Boston catcher since Victor Martinez put together a 25-game streak in 2009. The only other catcher in Red Sox history with a hitting streak of 17 games or longer is Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk, who reached that number twice between the 1975 and 1976 seasons. • Takes no-decision Wednesday
Wheeler allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Wednesday.

Advice: Wheeler has posted quality starts in eight of his last nine outings, the lone exception being an eight-run disaster at Baltimore on June 16. The right-hander left Wednesday's game with a lead, but Matt Strahm couldn't maintain it, though the Phillies went on to win, 5-3, anyway. Wheeler is now at a 2.74 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 119:33 K:BB through 111.2 innings over 18 starts this season. He's projected for a tough home start versus the Dodgers in his next outing. • Zack Wheeler whiffs seven in no-decision vs. Cubs
Zack Wheeler recorded seven strikeouts and allowed two runs over six innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

Advice: Wheeler gave up only five hits with a pair of run-scoring doubles from Cubs rookie Pete Crow-Armstrong accounting for all of the damage against him across six frames. He induced 13 swinging strikes and finished with a 28 percent CSW. The 34-year-old fantasy ace has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 15 of his 18 starts so far this season. He’ll bring a stellar 2.74 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 119/33 K/BB ratio across 11 2/3 innings (18 starts) into a challenging home matchup against the Dodgers in his penultimate outing prior to the Midsummer Classic. • Hit hard in Tuesday's loss
Cease (7-7) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up six runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings as the Padres fell 7-0 to the Rangers. He struck out five.

Advice: The right-hander got no help from his offense, but Cease created his own problems by serving up six extra-base hits, including a pair of homers by Nathaniel Lowe. Cease has been tagged for four runs or more in three of his last four starts, walking multiple batters each time. He'll take a 4.24 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 130:32 K:BB through 102 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:58 am

    • Notches seventh save
Hoffman struck out two batters in a scoreless inning to collect the save Tuesday versus the Cubs.

Advice: The Phillies saw a 6-1 lead quickly get cut to 6-4 after Seiya Suzuki hit a three-run shot off Jose Ruiz in the ninth inning, so Philadelphia brought in Hoffman to make sure things didn't get out of hand. Jose Alvarado remains the team leader with 12 saves on the year, but Hoffman has also proven to be a reliable option with a 1.24 ERA in 36.1 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:29 am
