    • Solid in abbreviated start
Scherzer didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Houston, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts across four innings.

Advice: Scherzer didn't complete five innings for the first time since being activated from the injured list June 23 and threw only 71 pitches after tossing 95 pitches in his previous start. Though he didn't go deep into the contest, Scherzer was very effective, with the lone run against him coming in the third on a solo home run by Jake Meyers. The 39-year-old has logged a 2.96 ERA and a 23:4 K:BB across 27.1 innings heading into the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:22 pm
    • Dazzles in first rehab outing
Williams (back) struck out all three batters he faced in a perfect inning during his rehab appearance Sunday with High-A Wisconsin.

Advice: Williams has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a pair of stress fractures in his back, but he didn't exhibit any signs of rust in his first game action of 2024. He needed just 14 pitches to strike out the side and generated four swings-and-misses during his brief time on the mound. The Brewers may have Williams shift his rehab assignment to Double-A Biloxi or Triple-A Nashville for a tougher test following the All-Star break, but the right-hander may not require too many more tune-up outings in the minors if he continues to look as sharp as he did Sunday. Williams should eventually supplant Trevor Megill as the Brewers' preferred option to close games once he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:31 pm

    • Notches four-out save
Scott allowed two walks over 1.1 scoreless innings and earned a save against the Reds on Sunday. He struck out two batters.

Advice: Scott faced a two-on, two-out situation in the ninth inning but struck out Edwin Rios to close out the 3-2 win. He's riding a 12.1-inning scoreless streak while converting six straight save chances. He's now 14 for 16 in save opportunities with a stellar 1.34 ERA through 39 appearances. • Returning for Minnesota series
Wheeler (back) played catch in the outfield Sunday and is expected to make his next start for the Phillies on July 22 or 23 versus the Twins in Minnesota, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: A bout with back spasms caused Wheeler to miss out on a start in the Phillies' final game before the All-Star break Sunday versus the Athletics, and it'll also prevent from making his second appearance in the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday. However, the back issue wasn't significant enough to force Wheeler to the IL, and if he continues to remain free of setbacks in his throwing sessions over the next week, he should be ready to take the hill July 22 or 23 without any restrictions. With a 10-4 record, 2.70 ERA and 0.99 WHIP through 116.2 innings over his 16 outings on the season, Wheeler had been a leading candidate to start for the National League in the All-Star Game, but those duties will now fall to Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes. • Stumbles again versus Brewers
Irvin (7-8) allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Brewers.

Advice: After a nine-start stretch in which he allowed more than two runs just once, Irvin has been tagged for 13 runs (12 earned) across his last two outings. The right-hander's ERA ticked up to 3.49 with a 1.11 WHIP and 99:29 K:BB through 116 innings over 20 starts this season. He's shown significant improvement in his second big-league campaign, but it'll be important to keep an eye on how he holds up during the second half. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:34 pm

    • Homers in four-hit game
Adames went 4-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double, a walk, two additional RBI and two total runs scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Nationals.

Advice: Adames has gone 9-for-21 (.429) with nine RBI over his last five games. The shortstop had his fingerprints all over this game, which saw him open the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning. He also wrapped up the offense with his eighth-inning homer. For the season, Adames is slashing .246/.330/.430 with 15 homers, 67 RBI, 52 runs scored, 12 stolen bases and 23 doubles across 97 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:20 pm

    • Zac Gallen gets clobbered in first half finale
Zac Gallen was absolutely clobbered in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander walked one and struck out just one batter in the ballgame. The Blue Jays had scratched out just an unearned run against him through the first three frames, but the wheels fell off for Gallen in the fourth inning. There, the Jays’ scored on run-scoring singles by Daulton Varsho and Ernie Clement before they opened it up with a grand slam off the bat of Kevin Kiermaier. Gallen got just four swings and misses on 70 pitches in the game, registering a CSW of 26 percent. He finishes his first half with a 6-5 record, 3.87 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 76/21 K/BB ratio over 76 2/3 innings in his 15 starts. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:15 pm
    • Three hits, steal in loss
Donovan went 3-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Donovan has six multi-hit efforts over 13 games in July, going 18-for-52 (.346) in that span. The steal was his first since June 26 and his third of the campaign. The 27-year-old is up to a .276/.345/.411 slash line with eight home runs, 45 RBI, 43 runs scored, 22 doubles and one triple over 91 contests this season. Donovan has primarily played in left field, though he occasionally spells Nolan Gorman at second base or Nolan Arenado at third. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:11 pm

    • Willy Adames clobbers homer, four hits in win
Willy Adames went 4-for-4 with a home run, double, walk, two runs scored, and four RBI in a 9-3 win over the Nationals.

Advice: This was a huge game for Adames who was never retired and on base five times as the Brewers avoided a sweep heading into the break. This mammoth game was a welcome sight as Adames had been hitting .214 over his last 30 games. His 67 RBI are fourth most in the National League. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:50 pm
