    • Steven Kwan homers, reaches four times in win
Steven Kwan went 3-for-4 with a homer in an 8-4 win over the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Kwan hit a solo homer off Jared Shuster in the third inning to give Cleveland a 2-1 lead. That’s the eighth homer of the season for the 26-year-old, who is enjoying a sensational 2024 season to put it mildly. On top of the homer and two more hits, he also walked, and the slash is now a robust .367/.424/.539. It’s very likely this isn’t sustainable — at least to this level — but Kwan has been a difference maker in the first half of 2024 for fantasy managers and the Guardians. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago

    • Bryce Harper (hamstring) getting closer to return
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said both Bryce Harper (hamstring) and J.T. Realmuto (knee) are running at 75% intensity.

Advice: The Phillies will be home for six games next week and then have the All-Star break, so there’s no reason to rush either Harper or Realmuto, but Thomson said that the Phillies won’t hold either of them back if they’re ready to go before the break. Given the nature of Realmuto’s injury and his age, it’s more likely Harper will return before the break than Realmuto. However, the Phillies have a solid lead in the NL East, so the team could decide to be cautious with both and hold them out for next week. One would assume that if the Phillies don’t bring either Harper or Realmuto back for the early week series against the Dodgers, they will certainly hold them out for the weekend series against the Athletics. • Bo Bichette scratched Thursday with forearm bruise
Bo Bichette was scratched from Thursday’s lineup due to a right forearm contusion.

Advice: It’ll be Leo Jimenez making his big-league debut at shortstop on Thursday against the Astros in his absence. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Rotoworld Today, 11:57 am

    • Luis Gil has been struggling with release point
According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Luis Gil’s recent struggles could be impacted by an inconsistent release point.

Advice: Boone said that the Yankees have noticed that Gil’s recent point has been inconsistent of late. That could be tied to fatigue since he’s pitching more innings than he ever has before or it could simply be a mechanical issue with an easy fix. The inconsistent release point could also be leading Gil to tip some of his pitches, which might provide more context to why the Orioles were able to pounce on his fastball so much in his recent start. It should also be noted that Gil is making many non-competitive pitches and leaving pitches over the heart of the plate, so the release point isn’t the only issue to be fixed, but it might be one that can be addressed soon. • Doing drills at 70-to-75 percent
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Harper (hamstring) is currently able to go through drills at 70-to-75 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Harper is eligible for activation July 9 as he works his way back from a strained left hamstring. While the Phillies won't hesitate to activate Harper next week if he's ready, they do have the All-Star break looming the following week if they decide to give the first baseman a little more time. • Scratched from lineup
Bichette was scratched from the Blue Jays' lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros due to a right forearm contusion, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bichette was hit by a pitch in the area during Wednesday's contest and felt some residual soreness while working out pregame Thursday. Consider him day-to-day. Leo Jimenez will slide over to shortstop and Spencer Horwitz will enter the lineup at second base. Rotowire.com Today, 9:11 am

    • Lasts just four innings Wednesday
Pepiot (4-5) took the loss Wednesday against the Royals, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks in four innings. He did not strike out a batter.

Advice: Pepiot made it through the first two innings unscathed, but the Royals got to him for two runs in the third on a couple of hits. He made quick work in the fourth but was replaced after throwing 87 pitches. The Rays offense mustered up just two runs, leaving Pepiot in line for the loss. His last win came back on June 4 against Miami. Pepiot also has never had less than two strikeouts, starting or relieving in any MLB game before having zero Wednesday. It was another short start for the 26-year-old, who hasn't reached six innings in each of his last four starts. Pepiot will take a 4.40 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 83:28 K:BB (75.2 IP) into a start against the Yankees next week. Rotowire.com Today, 8:27 am

    • Stays hot in win
O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over Seattle while also drawing a walk.

Advice: O'Hearn reached in each of his first three trips to the plate, smacking a two-run double in the third and a solo homer in the fifth, with the latter extending Baltimore's lead to four runs. It was the first baseman's third consecutive game with multiple hits, while he's also reached safely in 15 straight. O'Hearn is now 4-for-7 (.571) with two doubles, a homer and three RBI through just two games to open the month of July after batting .321 with 16 RBI in June. Rotowire.com Today, 7:19 am

    • Homer, three RBI in win
Gurriel went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 12-4 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Gurriel knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning then homered in the sixth to plate another two runs. The outfielder continued to hit in July after a highly productive June. Since June 1, Gurriel is 35-for-105 (.333) with six home runs, 20 RBI and eight additional runs scored over 28 games.
