      Sonny Gray allowed six runs -- three earned -- with six strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Reds on Saturday.

      Advice: Gray had worked through two scoreless innings to start the game before the Reds strung together three straight doubled to start the third inning, driving in two runs. A triple, a walk, and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out in the fifth. A fielding error would bring a run in and keep the bases loaded as Gray was relieved at 92 pitches. All inherited runners would come in to score. The 34-year-old right-hander will look to put this one behind him when he takes a 2.98 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a 109/23 K/BB ratio across 87 2/3 innings into a road start against the Nationals on Friday.       Stanton (hamstring) resumed activity on a treadmill Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Given the nature of Stanton's injury, any work on a treadmill is a sign of positive progress, though manager Aaron Boone characterized the slugger's activity level as "not a lot." Stanton went on the injured list with a hamstring strain June 23 and subsequently said he expects to miss about four weeks of action, so he's not expected to be activated until after the All-Star break. Despite his struggles keeping the ball in the park, Blanco nearly escaped with his fourth straight quality start due to an Alex Bregman error, but he fell one out short and got the hook after 98 pitches (65 strikes).
