• Pirates place C Grandal on 10-day injured list
Pirates placed C Yasmani Grandal on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with left foot plantar fasciitis.

Advice: Grandal was probably going to be the Opening Day catcher after signing with the team in February, but his foot issue opened the door for Henry Davis to take the job. If Davis gets off to a hot start, Grandal will likely be more of a veteran caddy once he’s ready to go. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago
  • Pirates designate C Sánchez for assignment
Pirates designated C Ali Sánchez for assignment.

Advice: The Pirates gave Sánchez a one-year deal this offseason, but he was bumped off the 40-man roster to make room for other players on the Opening Day roster. Jason Delay will serve as Henry Davis’ backup, at least until Yasmani Grandal is ready to return. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago
  • Phils place C Marchán on 10-day IL
Phillies placed C Rafael Marchán on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with lower back pain.

Advice: Marchán wasn’t going to make the Opening Day roster anyway, as Garrett Stubbs will once again begin the season as J.T. Realmuto’s backup, but now he’ll get a late start on the season. Rotoworld 50 minutes ago

  • Knocks in three runs in rout
Moreno went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and three RBI against the Rockies in Thursday's 16-1 Opening Day victory.

Advice: All of Moreno's production came in Arizona's 14-run third inning, during which the backstop recorded a run-scoring single and a two-run double. The 24-year-old dealt with a back injury in spring training but appears back to full health to begin the regular season. He's locked in as the Diamondback's primary catcher after slashing .284/.339/.408 with seven homers, 50 RBI and six steals during his first full big-league campaign last year. • Records three hits on Opening Day
Fry went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI in Thursday's 8-0 Opening Day win over Oakland.

Advice: Fry got the start at DH and batted fifth in the order following a strong spring during which he hit .295 with a pair of homers and eight RBI. The 28-year-old scored Cleveland's first run of the campaign in the second inning Thursday, coming around to score on a Tyler Freeman double following his own one-out two-bagger. In addition to his three hits, Fry added a sacrifice fly in the ninth frame to cap the scoring in the contest. It will take much more than one game for him to gain viability in mixed fantasy leagues, though the fact that Fry holds catcher eligibility and may log occasional time at DH in addition to being able to play the infield and outfield gives him some intrigue, especially in two-catcher formats. • Gabriel Moreno plates three as D-Backs crush Rockies
Gabriel Moreno drove in three runs and scored twice while going 2-for-5 in a blowout win for the Diamondbacks on Thursday over the Rockies.

Advice: Moreno doubled in a pair of runs in the third inning, and in that same frame he also singled home a run. The Diamondbacks were able to score 14 runs in that inning, and it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that they were able to win the game. Moreno is a former top prospect who looked the part in the postseason for Arizona last fall, and he could be in for a breakout campaign as a 24-year-old in 2024. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:42 pm
  • David Fry picks up three hits in blowout
David Fry went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in a rout of the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Fry drove in his run in the ninth with a sacrifice fly in the ninth that cemented a strong showing for the 28-year-old catcher. While he normally is behind the plate, the right-handed hitting backstop was the DH for the opener with Alex Wood on the mound, and he was one of several Cleveland hitters able to have a quality evening against an ineffective Alex Wood. Fry’s ability to hit lefties is intriguing, but he should remain off the fantasy radar for now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:42 pm

  • Jonah Heim drives home game-winner in extras
Jonah Heim went 1-for-5 with an RBI single in the 10th inning to give the Rangers a 4-3 win over the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: It was the only hit of the game for Heim, but it was a big one. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th, the backstop singled to drive in Josh Jung and give the defending champions a victory in the season opener. The 28-year-old switch-hitter drove in 95 runs while registering a .755 OPS in 2023, and he’s expected to see the majority of time behind the plate for Texas again this season. There are far worse fantasy options than Heim for those that didn’t draft a catcher early. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:00 pm
  • Bats second in season opener
Jeffers started at catcher and went 0-for-5 in Thursday's Opening Day win at Kansas City. He hit No. 2 in the lineup for the second time in his career.

Advice: Jeffers didn't do much in the season opener, but his position in the lineup against a left-handed starter shows the team has confidence that his second half showing last season was a sign of things to come. Jeffers surged at the plate last season with a career-high .858 OPS and a .928 OPS in the second half. He's expected to split playing time with Christian Vazquez as the Twins like to give their catchers rest. However, Jeffers could get the majority of starts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:51 pm
