• Mets place Luis Torrens on paternity list
Mets placed C Luis Torrens on the paternity list.

Advice: Torrens will miss New York’s upcoming three-game series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field to be with his family. It’ll be Joe Hudson getting the call to take his active roster spot during his absence. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:24 pm

  • Fermin mashes two home runs in win Thursday
Freddy Fermin went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs against the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Fermin’s two home runs were the difference in the Royals’ 3-2 win on Thursday. He’s now hitting .303 with a .799 OPS in 132 at-bats on the season. Fermin is still just the backup catcher in Kansas City and not a priority in fantasy. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:55 pm
  • Smith blasts 11th home against Rockies Thursday
Will Smith went 1-for-5 with a solo home run against the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Back in the two-hole of the batting order with Mookie Betts out, Smith hit a solo shot with two outs off Rockies starter Ty Blach with two outs in the fourth. His home run was his 11th of the season. Smith is hitting .276 with a .829 OPS and 45 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:20 pm

  • Resumes jogging
The Rockies cleared Diaz (calf) to resume jogging Monday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: While Diaz looks to be making some progress in his recovery from the left calf strain that forced him to the injured list last Friday, he's still on track to spend more than the minimum 10 days on the shelf. The Rockies haven't yet provided a target date for Diaz's return from the IL, and Jacob Stallings should serve as Colorado's top backstop until Diaz is back in action. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:16 pm

  • Nursing back issue
Herrera is unavailable to play Thursday against the Giants due to a back issue, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Herrera's back evidently locked up on him sometime around his arrival at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala. It partly explains why he's not in the lineup, although Pedro Pages has been the Cardinals' preferred option at catcher lately, anyway. At this point, Herrera should be considered day-to-day. St. Louis has a team day off Friday, so he'll have an extra day of rest before the series versus the Giants picks back up Saturday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:50 pm
  • Marlins acquire Ali Sánchez from Cubs in trade
Marlins acquired C Ali Sánchez from the Cubs for cash considerations.

Advice: Sánchez heads to Miami as extra minor league catching depth after spending the first couple weeks of the year with the Cubs organization at Triple-A Iowa. The 27-year-old backstop has gotten into seven contests in the majors since 2020. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:41 pm
  • Going on paternity leave
The Mets will place Torrens on the paternity list prior to Friday's game against the Cubs, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.

Advice: Torrens should miss the full three-game set in Chicago before rejoining the roster next Tuesday for the beginning of a homestand. Joe Hudson will take Torrens' roster spot. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:26 pm

  • Victor Caratini could wind up on the IL
Astros manager Joe Espada said that Victor Caratini is getting his left quad injury looked at by team doctors and that “an IL stint is a possibility.”

Advice: With Yordan Alvarez back and Yainer Diaz likely sliding back to catcher from the DH spot he had been filling of late, the Astros will need their backup catcher less over the next few weeks. However, if Caratini does wind up on the IL, it will mean more opportunities for Cesar Salazar when Diaz needs a day off. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:55 am

  • Resting Thursday
Herrera isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Herrera will sit for the second game in a row Thursday despite going 8-for-18 with three RBI across his last five contests. Pedro Pages will instead start behind the plate and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:45 am
