Advice: Blandino joined the Giants on a minor-league deal ahead of the 2022 season before being traded to the Mariners. He was let go by Seattle in August of 2022 and didn't play last year, but he's slated to get another opportunity to provide organizational depth for the Reds in 2023. The 31-year-old played in 135 major-league games with the Reds between the 2018, 2019 and 2021 seasons and hit .226 with two homers, 29 runs, 16 RBI and a steal. Advice: Blandino augments Cincinnati’s infield depth at Triple-A Louisville heading into the 2024 campaign. The 31-year-old hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2021 campaign when he got into 43 contests for the Reds. He spent the majority of last year in the Mariners’ minor league system, following an early-season trade from the Giants, before being released in early August. Signs with HalosLeblanc signed a minor-league deal with the Angels on Sunday.
Advice: The 27-year-old infielder made his big-league debut in 2022 but spent all of 2023 with the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate. Leblanc slashed .252/.384/.423 with 12 home runs and four steals in 94 games in the International League, good for a 108 wRC+. Advice: Leblanc played in the majors in 2022, where he slashed .263/.320/.404 across 169 plate appearances for the Marlins. The 27-year-old spent last season with Triple-A Jacksonville hitting .252/.384/.423 with 12 homers and four stolen bases across 370 plate appearances for Triple-A Jacksonville. Advice: Williams is back in the fold with the Braves as extra utility infield depth heading into the 2024 campaign. The 27-year-old reserve, who got into four contests last season as an emergency stopgap at shortstop for the Dodgers, will presumably compete in spring training for a spot on Atlanta’s season-opening roster. D-backs acquire Eugenio Suárez to fill 3B vacancyDiamondbacks acquired 3B Eugenio Suárez from the Mariners for RHP Carlos Vargas and C Seby Zavala.
Advice: The move settles a clear problem spot for the Diamondbacks during the 2023 season; while Suárez was playing in 162 games for the Mariners, Arizona had Josh Rojas (since traded to Seattle), Emmanuel Rivera, Evan Longoria (now a free agent) and Jace Peterson all take turns at the hot corner. Suárez wound up hitting .232/.323/.391 with 22 homers this past season for Seattle. He also led the American League in strikeouts for the third time in the last five years, finishing with 214. He was better in 2022, but he’s essentially been a league-average hitter over the past four years. Still, that’s fairly valuable and clearly worth the $11 million salary he’ll command in 2024. In line for third base jobUrias is currently projected as the Mariners' starting third baseman following their trade of Eugenio Suarez, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Advice: Seattle acquired Urias from Boston last week and he's now at the top of the team's depth chart at third base, although it's possible the Mariners bring someone else in at the position this offseason. Urias had a dreadful 2023, posting just a .636 OPS with three homers in 52 games while spending a chunk of the year in the minors. Lands with DiamondbacksThe Diamondbacks acquired Suarez from the Mariners on Wednesday in exchange for Seby Zavala and Carlos Vargas, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Advice: Suarez stumbled to a .232/.323/.391 batting line this season in Seattle, although he did hit 22 home runs and drive in 96 runs. The 32-year-old is owed $11.3 million in 2024 and has a $15 million club option (or $2 million buyout) for 2025. Report: D-backs get Eugenio Suárez from MarinersThe Diamondbacks are acquiring Eugenio Suárez from the Mariners for Carlos Vargas and Seby Zavala, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.
Advice: It’s not a big surprise to see Suárez on the move, and Arizona makes a lot of sense as a destination, even if this does seem to cut off Jordan Lawlar’s path to playing time in the short term. It’s a pretty light return for Seattle. Vargas might turn into a decent reliever, but he’s still too wild at the moment, and Zavala is a light-hitting backup catcher. It seems no one was very interested in taking on Suárez’s deal, which calls for him to make $11 million next year and either $15 million or a $2 million buyout in 2025.
